FREYA'S COLDNESS

FREYA'S COLDNESS
Celine's pov

“You don't understand yet, but you will soon after you've completed the assignment I gave you,” she said.

“Now, back to your ritual. I'll see you in three nights,” she added.

Should I even trust her and do the ritual? I think I should, she seems more annoying than I thought.

“Kael would doubt the ritual. How do I explain this to him?” I asked.

Kaida burst into laughter.

Not again! Silly laughter in the midst of something serious.

She raised two fingers, and the transparent door vanished.

Kael walked in with two guards behind him.

“Alpha, the Luna has a ritual to perform in three nights,” Kaida announced.

What the hell is she doing? Yes, she's trying to help, but what if she tells him about my revenge? Kael would kill me without a second thought but he loves me. He can't kill someone he loves.

He can’t… but his pack can, and they won’t even bother hearing from me.

“A ritual?” Kael asked, his tone wary.

“Yes, she isn’t an ordinary human,” Kaida replied as my heart began to race.

No, no.

“How?” Kael demanded.

“She’s a hybrid. Her mother was a werewolf; Elara, she…”

“The powerful Elara?” Kael interrupted, surprised.

“Yes, the powerful Elara. And she performed the Silver Binding on her. We’ll commence the ritual in three nights, under the full moon,” Kaida said.

Kael knows my mother? Was she really that powerful?

“She’s not completely safe, but… We’ll return in three nights,” Kael said.

“Good,” Kaida replied as she clapped her palms twice.

Kael did the same.

“Thank you,” he said, slowly nodding his head.

What’s going on?

Suddenly, everywhere went dark.

The guards immediately switched on their torches as Kael helped me out.

Surprisingly, it was already late. We walked past the river and soon got to where our car was parked.

Kael helped me into the car, and it zoomed off into the night.

“What time is it?” I asked.

Did the day suddenly turn dark, or did I spend too much time with Kaida?

“It’s 1 a.m.,” Kael answered.

“1 a.m.? It’s that late,” I exhaled.

“We should be at the pack house very soon.” He assured me.

“I’m sorry for keeping you out this late. I didn’t think it would take that long,” I said.

“It’s fine,” Kael responded calmly.

But thinking about what Kaida said, I’ve changed. If not, how could I, Celine Moretti, apologize even when I’m wrong?

“Your destiny awaits you,” I heard in my head.

Screw destiny and focus on your plans.

We arrived at the pack house and went in.

“Please, I need to get my phone from my chamber. I’ll be out quickly,” I said, walking away.

“A guard can help you with that,” Kael suggested, but I started running instead.

I reached my chamber, and it was neatly arranged, but I couldn’t find my phone.

“Where did I keep it?” I muttered as I searched.

The door creaked open, revealing Freya.

“Who cleaned my chamber? I can’t find my phone,” I said, but Freya just stared at me without flinching.

“Freya!” I snapped but still, she didn’t respond.

“What’s wrong with you? Why are you staring at me without answering my question? Have you forgotten I’m your Luna?” I demanded, but she remained mute.

I didn't have time for this, Kael is waiting.

“Get me my phone!” I ordered.

The door opened again as Kael walked in.

“You haven’t found it yet?” he asked.

“Yes. I asked Freya if she’s seen it, but she’s just silent,” I said.

“Where is it?” he asked Freya.

“In the drawer, Alpha,” she replied respectfully. I stared at her in shock.

Something’s wrong.

She walked to the drawer and pulled out my phone.

“Here, Alpha,” she said. I snatched the phone from her.

“Have Shabby bring dinner to my chamber,” Kael instructed.

“Yes, Alpha,” she replied and shut the door behind her.

“She seems off,” I muttered.

“She’s dealing with a lot right now,” Kael replied.

Really? Because the way she stared at me wasn't grief. Even after her loss, she wasn’t this cold, at least not toward me. There’s definitely something going on.

We left my chamber and headed to Kael’s.

I sat on the bed.

“Should I shower first, or do you want to?” Kael asked.

“No, you can go. I’ll wait,” I said, smiling as he picked up his pajamas and headed into the bathroom.

I turned on my phone screen and saw Damien’s message.

I’m sorry, Celine. I thought sending the men out was the right thing…

Oh, Damien, what have you done? Maybe this was what Freya saw. Why didn’t I think of taking my phone with me earlier? I was overwhelmed in my desperation to meet Kaida.

Now, they’ll report this to Kael, thinking the men mentioned in this message are the ones who attacked the pack.

This isn’t good. How would they believe me if Freya dares to show this to Kael? He’ll just dump me after everything, after keeping me safe from everyone in his pack.

“I’m glad you’re not like them.”

Those were Freya’s words to me the day I wasn’t allowed out.

Now she thinks I’m the culprit; the master planner behind it all.

I unlocked my phone and read the full message:

I’m sorry, Celine. I thought sending the men out was the right thing. At least you liked the idea, but I guess that was a bad idea.

Damien! Damien!

This message will ruin everything but I can’t let that happen.

Kael came out of the bathroom, dressed in his pajamas.

I picked mine and went in.

Should I kill Freya before she speaks? No, I don’t want to hurt anyone now, until I complete Kaida’s assignment. But how can I handle this?

The warm water touched my body, then I heard a knock on the door.

“Come in,” I heard Kael say.

Then I heard the sound of the door opening.

“I’m sorry, Alpha, but I couldn’t find Shabby,” a familiar voice said.

No, that voice sounded like that of… Freya.
