Why do you want?

Why do you want?
Harry froze for a moment, his hand hovering over Chase . "Why do you want to know?"
"I'm just curious, I guess. " I shrugged, trying to sound calm, though inside I was dying to know.
"I can't answer that for you, Harry . You need to talk to Damon."
"Oh. "I tried not to be disappointed, but I don't think I succeeded.
What I will say is that you have options. You don't have to become a vampire to stay in a relationship with one. And besides, you don't have to make any decisions now. You just met the guy and found out that vampires exist.
I was right. I knew, I guess I just wanted all the answers right away. "What about folklore and legends, are they true?"
He chuckled. "Which ones?"
"A crucifix?"
"No. It has no effect."
"Garlic?"
"I can't cook without it."
"Holy water?"
"I could bathe in it every day if I wanted to."
I leaned forward and lowered my voice to a whisper. "Blades under the sun?"
"No way!"he said with a deep chuckle.  "It's totally ridiculous!"
"Thank God." I wasn't sure I could live with that if it were true.
The only way to kill a vampire is to cut off our heads or shoot us in the heart with a silver bullet. That won't kill us alone, but it will give you a chance to get close enough to cut off our heads.
".
"What about the food," I asked, "Why does it change with the couple?"
Harry arched an eyebrow. "You've already experienced how intimate it is, would you like Damon to feed on someone else now?"
I was overcome with a surge of jealousy at the thought of Damon's mouth touching someone other than me. It was probably completely insane and a huge red flag, but fuck, he was possessive about it.
Harry laughed at me. "I think you have the answer, but being honest, couples are supposed to be perfect for their partner in every way. Damon will give you what you need, just like you'll give him what he needs."
Doubt washed over me. What could I give a man like Damon? He was powerful, wealthy, had a solid social standing. He was dominant, self-confident and didn't seem to need anything. "What could he want from me, Harry ?"
"Love," she said simply, as if that were the answer to everything. Perhaps it was. Only time would tell.

DAMON
By the time I returned home, I was furious and frustrated. Rose couldn't find any trace of Ronin on Dominic's record, so I had no idea how he'd been attacked. This guy was like a ghost, leaving no trace. How was that possible?
How could someone like that go unnoticed for so long? Where did he come from? Why was he targeting me? What had he done? I didn't understand, and the fact that I was running around in circles made me feel incompetent and useless.
I knew Bailey had gone to bed and I didn't blame him. I had been hunting for a while and had nothing to show for it. Just more questions.
I should have left him alone, but I didn't have the strength to resist. Bailey lay on his side, hands under his chin. She looked so adorable, her curls a little wild, as if she had been tossing and turning in her sleep.
I walked over to the bed and Bailey's eyes shot open. Her cat shot out of bed and scurried away. Bailey sat up with a jolt and slammed her hand on the lamp, bathing the room in a faint yellow glow.
"Damon? What are you doing?"

Truth be told, it probably looked like I was watching him like a stalker. "I wanted to see you."
He rubbed his eyes sleepily. "Isn't it like four in the morning?"
Still early by my standards. "Yes."
He watched me for a moment, curiosity and annoyance in his eyes. I knew this whole thing between us was probably intense and unnerving. I had upended his world, but I couldn't get away from him. I felt a need burning inside me and there was no way I could keep my distance, even if I wanted to.
Which I didn't. I wanted to be pressed against him, skin to skin.
It was then that I realized he was only wearing boxers. I traced the contours of his torso, that defined, lithe torso I suddenly wanted to meet.
"Damon , why do you look like you want to eat me? "he said, his voice hoarse from sleep.
I gave him my best puppy dog look. "Because I'm hungry."
Bailey frowned. "I thought you didn't need to feed for a week."
I smiled. "I'm not hungry, Bailey."
It took her a moment to understand what I meant, but when she did, a blush crept up her neck and her heart started pounding. "Oh."
I kicked off my boots and quickly removed my shirt and pants before crawling under the covers next to Bailey . I pulled him close, tucking my arm under his neck, and he rested his head on my chest.
"You're so warm," Bailey said softly.
Vampires are usually warmer. I hooked my leg between his, wanting to be as close as possible. He settled perfectly against me, and I hoped I could hold on to that feeling of home forever.
"I thought you were hungry " Bailey murmured , fighting sleep.
