Chapter 529 Truth Comes Out After Drinking
Chapter 529 Truth Comes Out After Drinking
Kenna suddenly spoke up, catching everyone off guard. She wasn't known for drinking, and if it weren't for keeping Hazel and Allegra company, she wouldn't have touched alcohol.
"It's rare for us to get together, so I thought I'd have a drink," Kenna said calmly. "I've been with Brooks a lot lately, and who knows when I'll get another chance to come out."
"How's Brooks doing now?" Allegra asked, unable to hide her curiosity. "Is he still being all dramatic?"
"No, he's doing quite well now," Kenna replied.
"What's with a grown man acting so dramatic?" Allegra's initial sympathy for Brooks had turned into disdain. "He's not the only one in the world with a limp. Look at Lucius, he's disabled too, but you don't see him acting all dramatic. He's strong-willed despite his disability."
Lucius was holding a glass, ready to join the others in a toast. At that moment, he wasn't sure if he should drink or not. From another perspective, his wife was praising him, saying he was strong-willed despite his disability.
"You didn't see Lucius when he first got disabled," Nico started to say.
"Ahem, ahem," Lucius interrupted, reminding him to stop.
"Alright, I'll stop," Nico said, pursing his lips. "Let's drink."
The men started drinking, shifting the topic. The atmosphere at the table was good, and Kenna seemed to be in a decent mood. She occasionally joked with Hazel and Allegra. But everyone noticed that there were three empty bottles in front of Kenna.
Allegra couldn't stand it anymore and wanted to stop her, but Hazel held her back. Allegra looked at Hazel in surprise. Hazel took out her phone and texted Allegra: [Kenna's too repressed, let her relax a bit. It might not be a bad thing.]
Allegra: [But I'm worried she'll get drunk.]
Hazel: [If she gets drunk, so be it. Maybe she'll figure things out after.]
Allegra: [I'm really upset. Ambrose and Kenna have come this far, and then Brooks shows up to ruin everything.]
Hazel: [Give them some time.]
Allegra: [I'm so impatient, I just want to tell Kenna everything Ambrose has prepared for her.]
Hazel: [Respect Ambrose's choice.]
Allegra: [These two are even more troublesome than Lucius and I were.]
Hazel: [You know you were troublesome too.]
Allegra: [Let's focus on Kenna and Ambrose.]
Hazel smiled: [Let Kenna let loose tonight. We'll talk to her tomorrow.]
Allegra: [Alright.]
That night, Kenna drank five bottles of beer, which was her limit. She slumped over the table, completely out of it. She felt awful, her stomach hurt, and her heart ached even more. She felt so repressed, wanting to vent but always holding back. She was the type who wouldn't cry even if anything serious happened. Maybe it was because she lost her parents at a young age and lacked a sense of security. She couldn't show her true self without reservation.
"That's enough," Allegra called to the others.
Hazel also said, "George, it's late. Let's head home."
George, now a typical doting husband, would stop drinking mid-sip if Hazel said so and immediately go home with her.
Allegra shot Nico a look, and he got the message, even though he was enjoying his drinks.
"Alright, I'm heading out too," He said, quickly following Hazel and George out.
Allegra turned to Ambrose, who was still leisurely sipping his drink. "Take Kenna home."
"Let her stay here tonight," Ambrose replied.
"No way," Allegra said firmly. "I don't like having guests overnight."
"Nico stayed at your place last time," Ambrose pointed out.
"Nico's different. He almost became my husband," Allegra said bluntly.
Lucius felt a pang in his heart. In one night, Allegra knew how to hurt two men.
Ambrose chuckled at Allegra's words.
"Kenna is still your wife. You haven't finalized the divorce yet! You have a responsibility to ensure her safety!" Allegra said righteously, and Ambrose had no retort. He put down his glass and picked Kenna up. She looked so small in Ambrose's arms.
Allegra watched as Ambrose carried Kenna away. She suddenly felt that these two were a perfect match, so why were they drifting apart?
Ambrose got into a cab with Kenna and gave the address of the Valois Mansion.
"I don't want to go there," Kenna suddenly sat up and said loudly.
Ambrose looked at her, "Then where do you want to go?"
"I want to go home."
"Where's your home?" Ambrose found it amusing. "Isn't the Valois Mansion your home?"
"No, it's not," Kenna mumbled. "Ambrose's home is my home."
Ambrose felt a sharp pain in his chest, staring intently at Kenna. Her face was flushed, and her eyes were unfocused. Was she just drunk and talking nonsense? Or was she speaking the truth under the influence?
Ambrose still took Kenna home. Drunk Kenna was more stubborn than usual. Besides, it was late, and going back now would disturb the neighbors. He placed Kenna on the bed and was about to leave.
"Don't go," Kenna grabbed Ambrose's hand, not letting him leave.
Ambrose's heart raced. He felt Kenna's warmth in his palm. He said, "Kenna, look at me. I'm Ambrose."
"I know you're Ambrose," Kenna said, looking at him with unfocused eyes. "You irresponsible jerk!"
Ambrose pursed his lips. Was Kenna always this uncontrollable when drunk?
"Why did you push me to Brooks? Am I a commodity? Who gave you the right?" Kenna suddenly got up, standing on the bed, looking down at Ambrose.
"Kenna, don't stand there, you'll fall."
"I won't fall," Kenna ignored Ambrose, continuing to question him. "Why did you push me away? Why? What's wrong with me? Is my figure not good enough? Am I not pretty enough? Ambrose, how can you be so picky?"
"Lie down first."
"I won't," Kenna wouldn't let Ambrose touch her. When Ambrose reached out to pull her, she dodged. Ambrose watched Kenna swaying, feeling extremely anxious.
"Answer me first, why don't you like me?" Kenna pointed at Ambrose's nose, demanding an answer.
"I don't dislike you."
"You do dislike me!" Kenna's eyes reddened. "You like those bad women outside, you just don't like me. Do I have to become really bad for you to like me?"
"I don't."
"You're lying! You like women with a good figure, and good in bed. I know." Kenna felt utterly wronged.
