Chapter 521 The Final Escape

Chapter 521 The Final Escape

The Martinez Mansion was ablaze, and Hazel raced to the scene as fast as she could.

Without a second thought, Hazel turned around and, flanked by her bodyguards, hurried to the burning entrance of the mansion.

Even in her firefighter's suit, the heat was overwhelming, making it tough to push forward.

With the fire raging like it was, any more delay could mean no one would make it out.

Especially without proper protection, but that wasn't her concern.

Everyone made their own choices.

Hazel and the bodyguards finally managed to escape the mansion.

Just then, Hazel saw Glenn emerging from the flames, too.

It looked like he was carrying someone, but she couldn't be sure because of the firefighter's suit.

Hazel rushed over and heard Glenn shout hoarsely, "Get to the hospital! Hurry!"

Glenn's frantic urgency caught Hazel off guard. "What happened? Is it Lewis?"

Hazel's heart pounded as she recognized the person Glenn was carrying.

"Lewis got shot. I can't explain everything right now. The most important thing is to get him to the hospital," Glenn said urgently.

"Okay," Hazel replied, not asking more questions.

The situation was dire.

Otherwise, Glenn wouldn't be acting this way.

She quickly followed Glenn to a nearby car.

As she got in, she glanced back.

No one else was coming out.

She instructed the bodyguards outside the car, "Leave a car here. If anyone comes out, take them to the hospital."

"Yes, ma'am."

Hazel and Glenn rushed Lewis to the hospital.

The car ride was eerily quiet.

Lewis was in too much pain to speak, and Glenn was silent to a frightening degree.

Hazel didn't say anything either, her emotions in turmoil.

The car soon arrived at the hospital, and Lewis was immediately taken to the emergency room.

In the hallway, it was just Hazel, Glenn, and a bodyguard standing at a distance, not daring to interrupt.

"What happened?" Hazel finally asked.

Glenn's body trembled.

Hazel pressed her lips together, never having seen him like this.

What could have happened to make Glenn so uncharacteristically shaken?

She didn't push him, just waited quietly for a few minutes until Glenn finally spoke, "I went to get the documents George left in the yard and was caught by Great Aunt."

"She was inside?" Hazel couldn't believe it, wondering if she was planning to die.

"Yeah. She knew we'd go in, so she waited for us, ready to take us down with her." Hazel could imagine the scene.

"Lewis saved me. When Great Aunt was about to shoot me, he tackled her from behind. But as we were leaving, she used her last breath to shoot at me, and Lewis took the bullet for me." Glenn's eyes reddened, his voice growing softer and trembling.

"Where was he hit?" Hazel asked.

"I don't know," Glenn shook his head.

He covered his face, trying to hide his emotions.

"I didn't dare check or ask. I'm scared." Glenn choked.

"I understand," Hazel said, not pressing him further.

She knew Glenn feared that Lewis might have been fatally wounded, and he couldn't bear the thought of Lewis dying to save him.

Glenn was deeply emotional, despite his tough exterior.

Hazel walked over and gently hugged Glenn. "He'll be okay. Lewis will be fine."

She said the words, but her eyes reddened.

Time ticked by slowly.

The hallway was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.

After half an hour, the emergency room doors remained closed.

Suddenly, there was movement in the hallway.

Hazel and Glenn looked toward the sound.

They saw several medical staff pushing two gurneys toward them.

The urgency in their steps suggested the patients were in critical condition.

Hazel's eyes flickered.

She didn't see who was on the gurneys, but she saw the bodyguard who had accompanied her to the Martinez Mansion.

He was following the gurneys.

Hazel lowered her gaze, watching the gurneys pass by. One carried Ariana, the other George?

George was almost unrecognizable.

If it weren't for the context, she might not have known it was him.

She watched as they were quickly taken into the emergency room.

Glenn noticed too.

"Is that Ariana and George?" He asked, uncertain.

"It looks like it," Hazel replied.

"Didn't you find George?" Glenn finally remembered other matters.

"I did," Hazel said. "Otherwise, he'd be ashes by now."

"Then why..." Glenn was puzzled.

Why didn't George come out with Hazel?

If she found him, he should have had a firefighter's suit.

He shouldn't be so severely burned!

"He went back to save Ariana," Hazel said flatly.

Glenn pressed his lips together and said no more.

The most important thing now was Lewis. The hallway fell silent again.

Two anxious hours passed before the emergency room light finally went off.

Hazel's heart skipped a beat, dreading what she might hear.

She turned to Glenn, who looked just as tense.

Glenn's behavior today was unusual.

But Hazel's focus was entirely on Lewis's condition, leaving no room for other thoughts.

She bit her lip and walked toward the doctor. Glenn's legs wobbled as he stood up.

He quickly followed her.

"Doctor, how is Lewis?" Hazel asked nervously.

The doctor took a deep breath.

Hazel and Glenn's hearts were about to explode.

"Don't worry, the patient is not in any immediate danger," The doctor said.

Hazel and Glenn hadn't yet exhaled in relief when the doctor continued, "But the bullet hit his back, breaking three ribs and causing some heart damage. We'll need to monitor his condition closely. If his heart is okay, he'll be fine. If not..."

"Will he die?" Glenn blurted out.

"Not necessarily, but he might need further heart surgery," The doctor said. "Don't worry, we'll do our best to treat him."

"Thank you, doctor," Hazel said, finally exhaling.

Glenn also thanked the doctor profusely, "Thank you, doctor. Thank you."

For them, as long as Lewis was alive, it was enough.

In the ward, Hazel and Glenn stayed with Lewis.

Both were quiet, waiting for Lewis to wake up.

After a long while, Lewis seemed to move his eyelids.
