Chapter 141 – Finding Answers
Jacob swung his fists back and forth across Adrian’s face. Adrian lost his balance and fell to the ground with a bloody smile on his face.
“I win. Your mate doesn’t even know who you are, and it’s eating you up inside. After all these years, I have finally found a way to make the mighty Jacob Sullivan fall,” he said with a cruel tone of laughter filling his voice.
Jacob grabbed Adrian by the shirt, lifted him closer to his face, and snarled, “What did you do to her?”
Adrian just laughed.
“That’s the beauty of all this; I wasn’t the one who did this to her. Maybe you should ask your little human prisoner you have back at your pack.” Adrian confided.
Jacob punched Adrian across the face again, only this time knocking him out cold. He dropped the cold wolf to the floor and stood up before making his way to the iron gate.
Raymond opened the access point for his Alpha. “What do you want to do with him?”
Jacob turned back to look at his arch nemesis lying out cold on the hard floor. “Attention all wolves that held allegiance to Adrian. You have two choices: Option one; you can stay here under the alliance of my pack and follow my pack’s rules but continue to live in your homes and familiar settings. Option two, you can leave and become rogue, never to return to this part of the pack land ever again. You have seventy-two hours to make your choice,” Jacob ordered. He then turned to Raymond and snarled, “He comes with us.”
Jacob turned and headed out of the underground facility. As good as it felt for him to take out some of his pent-up frustration and anger, he was still heartbroken over the fact that Cassidy had no memory of their time together.
It made him sick to his stomach seeing her in this state, and he wanted to pull her into his arms and lick her wounds until they healed. But before he was able even to get close to her, Cassidy screamed for him to leave and swore that she didn’t know who he was. His wolf howled sadly when their mate looked at them like some deranged killer on the loose.
Jacob closed his eyes and sucked in a breath; he could sense that Cassidy was still inside the place where they were keeping her captive. He was relieved when Natalie showed up, knowing that she was in good hands with her best friend. Jacob sighed as he continued to move past the small place, slowly making his way off the land, but not before he was sure that Cassidy was safe. He hoped Natalie would be able to get a little more information on what was going on with his mate. He prayed that it was all only temporary and that with a bit of time and rest, Cassidy would be back to her old self soon.

Natalie opened the door and stepped out of the room, closing it gently behind her.
Gavin was at her side, rubbing her back and providing her with calming energy.
Natalie looked up at Gavin with tears burning her eyes. “How did this happen? How is it she has no recollection of what’s happened these last few months?” she inquired.
Gavin stepped back a little and pointed to Adrian’s pack doctor. “This is the Doctor who did her exam. Doc, tell her what you told us, please.”
The older gentleman stepped forward and smiled graciously at Natalie, “Upon my first examination, it looks like your friend has what’s called Dissociative amnesia. It’s when the brain blocks out a time in her memory that might have been traumatic for her,” he explained.
Natalie pressed her lips into a thin line. It was exactly what she thought might have happened. “How can we help her get her memories back?”
The Doctor tilted his head back and forth. “There are several different types of methods for treatment; it will be a long process depending on whether or not her mind wants to open up and be reminded of those tragic events.”
Natalie let out a heavy sigh as she nodded her head. She was worried about what could have caused this all to happen.
“Thank you, Doctor, for talking with me. Would it be alright if I take her home now?” Natalie asked in a quiet voice.
The Doctor nodded, “I will make sure to stay in contact with the physician at your pack if anything comes up in her blood work. She was pretty banged up when she first got here.”
Natalie’s chest filled with sadness and anger for her friend. She hoped that whoever did this to Cassidy would get what was coming to them.

Mark screamed as he was tossed from one side of the cell to the other. He tried to get up and scramble away from the angry man who kept beating on him.
“What did you do to Cassidy?” Jacob growled loudly toward the weak man.
Mark crouched into a little ball and blocked his face with his hands, trying to keep the intimidating man from hurting him any further. “It was Hannah who messed up Cassidy. She wouldn’t stop beating on her, and I only was giving her morphine to put her in a numbing state,” he admitted.
Jacob snarled as he lifted his hand to smack down on the pathetic man squatting before him but dropped his hand before hitting him again. This wasn’t going to fix what had happened to Cassidy, and he needed to be more proactive in finding a solution to her situation and not abusing this man simply for his pleasure.
He felt the vibration of his phone buzzing in his pocket. Jacob exited the cell, making sure to close and lock the door behind him before answering.
“Is something wrong?” he asked in a concerned voice.
“Hey, can you meet me somewhere so we can talk?” Natalie asked once she heard Jacob answer the phone.
“I can be at the cabin in less than ten minutes.”
“How about I meet you in the forest, close to the creek? I don’t want Cassidy to freak out,” Natalie suggested.
Jacob sighed as he nodded his head. “Alright, I’ll see you soon.”
He ended the call as if his chest filled with anxiety. Nat didn’t sound good on the phone, and could only assume that it was terrible news.
