Chapter 140 – Needing Answers

Nat rushed out of the truck before Gavin had a chance to shut off the engine to get to Cassidy. He hadn’t given her a lot of details as to what was happening but reassured her that Cass was okay.

Teddy was waiting outside to take her to where they had found Cassidy. As they walked down the hall, she saw Jacob leaning against the wall opposite of the door they were all lurking around. She looked at Jacob with confusion and didn’t understand why he wasn’t inside with Cass.

Teddy opened the door gently and guided Natalie in before shutting the door behind her.

Natalie turned to look at the closed door behind her, not exactly sure why everyone was acting so weird and distant. She turned back and looked toward the bed. Natalie sucked in a breath when she found her best friend curled up in a small ball, shivering in the corner of the bed. She slowly walked over to the small bed and sat on the edge of it.

“Cass?” she called out softly.

Cass lifted her head, and relief filled her hazel eyes when she saw her best friend in the room with her. “Oh, Nat, thank god you’re here. I have no idea what’s going on or why I’m here,” Cassidy cried out as she wrapped her arms around Nat and hugged her friend.

Nat returned the embrace as she tried to put the pieces together to what had happened.

“Don’t worry, Cass, everything is alright,” she told her friend in a soothing tone.

There were so many questions running through Natalie’s head, but she could sense that her friend was overwhelmed and wasn’t in the right frame of mind to be asked questions.

“Let’s get you out of here,” Nat told Cass as she tried to get her off the bed.

Cass pulled back. “Are they all still out there?”

Nat looked at Cass with confusion. “Are all who still out there?” she repeated.

Cassidy rubbed her hands together in anxiousness. She was afraid to say the words out loud to where they might hear her.

“Those people who are monsters,” she said softly.

Natalie leaned back as she looked at her friend in confusion. Something wasn’t right with her friend, and she needed to figure out what was going on quickly in order to fix it. “Cass, can I ask you something? What day is it?”

Cassidy let out a sigh as she rolled her eyes. “I don’t know exactly what day it is, but you had talked me into spending the holiday weekend at my Pop Pop’s cabin.

Natalie’s eyes widened, and her hand flew to her mouth to cover it. Her heart was breaking over the fact that Cassidy had lost all memory of the last few months. She knew that her friend hadn’t had the best of months, but she was afraid to find out if Cass had any memory of Jacob.

“Cass, do you recognize any of those men out there?” Natalie asked calmly and carefully.

Cassidy’s eyes shifted toward the door. She didn’t want to admit to her friend about the tingles she had received when one of them came close to her. She didn’t know him, and after watching what he had done to that platinum-blonde female, Cassidy didn’t feel safe being anywhere near him.

She shook her head at her friend’s question.

Jacob’s heart ached when he heard the devastating words that came out of Cassidy’s mouth about him. It was tearing him to shreds to see her like this and not recognize him as her mate. He was rocking himself back and forth as he tried to wait patiently for answers he knew he wasn’t going to be able to get from her.

His anger burned inside him, and he felt like he was about to burst. He pushed himself away from the hall, needing to get some fresh air and control of his temper. He could feel the pent-up rage building inside him and needed a release. There was only one wolf that came to mind, and Jacob then knew the exact direction he was heading for.

Adrian was chained up against the wall, with a silver hanging across from him to weaken his strength, while the rest of his pack were silvered with cuffs on their wrists.

As Jacob entered the room that they were holding Adrian in, he kicked off his shoes and stripped down to only his pants. “Unchain him, and follow me,” Jacob commanded. “You can bring some of his warriors to watch, too.”

Raymond looked at his friend with deep concern. He had stayed with the prisoners to make sure no one got away.

“What’s going on?”

Jacob pointed a finger in Adrian’s direction, “That’s what I’d like to know, and I’m going to beat it out of him.”

Adrian chuckled at Jacob’s threat.

Jacob growled menacingly as he made his way to the fighting arena he knew the pack had, far below the pack house. He smiled with enthusiasm as the caged arena came into view. He was ready to take out all of his aggression on Adrian and didn’t really care about the outcome.

Raymond pulled back on Jacob to get a better understanding of where his friend’s mind was at. “Alpha, this is crazy. What’s happened?”

Jacob refused to look Raymond in the eye; he knew that if he started talking about everything that was happening, he wouldn’t be able to stay focused and win the fight.

“Something happened to Cassidy between the time she was abducted and the moment I tried to rescue her. She screamed, saying she didn’t know who I was and that I was just some man who enjoyed killing women,” he said in a horrified voice.

Raymond rubbed his hand against his forehead. It was no surprise to him now why Jacob wanted to hurt Adrian in any way and was ready to kill the man if they let him.

He grabbed his long-time friend by the shoulders and tried to reason with him. “Listen, I know you’re angry right now and want revenge, but this isn’t the way to get that. Cassidy will get her memory back, and she will remember you. You have to have faith that this isn’t how yours and Cassidy’s story ends.”

Jacob shook his head as he pulled Raymond’s hands off of him. “I need to do this; you’re either with me or against me. Which is it?” Jacob said as an ultimatum.

Raymond let out a heavy sigh and shook his head. “Of course, I’m with you until the end.”
