Chapter Fifty-three: Meeting Dracula

We get things packed and I get an idea. I'm going to make her that telepathic-proof jewelry I thought about a few days ago. It's worth a shot and if it doesn't work, then we all will think of something. I know we aren't in direct danger, but I have a feeling that trouble will find us one way or another.

I pull Katie aside, “Katie which necklace of mine would you wear and never take off until I told you?”

She reaches into my jewelry box and pulls out my white-gold and diamond horseshoe necklace. It is very fitting because, to many, the horseshoe is a symbol of good luck and protection. It has become a very superstitious symbol dating very far back to a blacksmith and his dealings with the devil. The story goes that the devil asked the blacksmith to attach horseshoes to his hooved feet.

Whether this history is true or not, I don't know but if it helps protect her then I will try and believe anything. Vincent and the guys come pouring in as he asks, “What are you up to?”

I look him in the eye and say, “I'm going to enchant it to prevent telepathy, like I told you, boys.”

Eric nods, “It's worth a try.”

I recall some scenes from movies and books that I have read as I put a ton of wards on it. I envision it enclosing her in a bubble from any mind control. I try to make it block any influence too. I put my

all into it. I need her as safe as I can make her.

With the guys on standby, I instruct her, “Okay Katie put it on Vin and Eric take turns trying to compel and read her. Katie think about something.”

Both Vincent and Eric try for a bit before Vincent says, “It's like looking through a thick fog.”

Eric nods, “Yeah like treading through water too. It's exhausting.”

I smile, “Good, very good.”

Then Vincent suggests that I try. I tell him that I would likely get through because I'm the caster, but the guys encourage me to try.

I look at Katie and say, “Come.”

Her eyes glaze over and she starts to walk toward me. Vincent yells, “Shit!”

“Release,” I yelled and thankfully she reverted back to normal just as quickly as she zombified.

Vincent exhales as both Eric and Sam low whistle as they shake their heads. Vincent says what they all were thinking, “Damn, Eva you could control an army that way.”

I sigh, “I would prefer not to.”

Vincent’s phone begins to ring and he puts it on speaker.

***Phone Call***

Vincent Black: Hello

Vlad: Nearly there brother

Sam Fall: We are loading the car

Vlad: Just how many are there?

Me: Oh we outnumber the three of you

I used my senses like Eric suggested

to see if I could tell how many were

with Vlad. Vincent chuckles.

Vincent Black: Nice love and you're not even touching anything

Me: Nope, because I can sense the

additional power entering the city

Eric Wood: Why you're my queen

Vlad: Wait! Just wait a minute!

Me: Like Vin said lots to explain in person. Be sure to inform your people that Katie is off limits. I'll know if any so much as try to compel her. I won't hesitate to end them

Vincent Black: She's vicious so I suggest you don't test her

Me: He could ask Victor Van Clay how that worked out for him but wait you can't because he's ash!

Vlad: Noted

***End Call**

We end the call and lock up. We head to the airport. I tell them once we are in the car, “Well, as soon as we are in sight of the plane I'm gonna start singing in my head. Just a warning guys.”

Vincent looks at me, “You promised Marcarena.”

I grin, “It won't be, love.”

We park and exit the SUV. Once we get within sight of the plane, I start singing in my head as we approach. I make sure I look at my mates too because I want to see their faces as I sing I Touch Myself by The Divinyls.

When I sing “Ooh, I don't want anybody else. Oh no, oh no, oh no,” I hear them laugh in my head so I keep going. I look at Vincent as I wink during this verse, “A fool could see just how much I

adore you. I'd get down on my knees, I'd do anything for you.”

As I get to the end, I am standing nearly nose-to-nose with Vlad and his companion so I say the last verse out loud, “I honestly do. I touch myself. I touch myself.”

I just smile sweetly. I hear Vlad say in his head, “It would figure that a bastard like my brother would find a sadistic bitch like her.”

I look at Vincent and Eric and they both have rage in their eyes. They heard it too. That makes me worry. He isn't pack or a werewolf. Can I now hear all vampires?

I ask my guys, “So you boys heard that too?”

Sam growls, “Yes and may I rip his head off?”

“No, you may not! Remember I can't harm you lot but I can stop you from harming each other,” I remind Sam.

Vincent glares at Vlad, “What the fuck kind of comment was that, brother!”

Marcus, who accompanied Vlad and appears to be his friend, says, “I thought you said they weren't telepaths.”

Vlad, who looks shocked, says, “They're not!”

Marcus says, “But…”

Eric looks at Vlad and then Vincent and says, “This is interesting.”

I know where he is going with this notion of his so I say, “No, it's fucking not!”

Vincent looks pissed, “I agree with Eva!”

To ease the tension Marcus suggested that we all boarded the plane.

————-Vlad’s POV———

What the actual fuck is this? This bitch can do things most vampires can't. She can do things that it takes a dedicated coven of witches to do. What is she? l agree that I need to see what she can do, but what I'm more concerned about is what she's forcing me to feel.

I must fight this. I want nothing to do with this mess my brother has put in. I just want my progeny freed and to forget Vincent showed up here with this succubus.
