Not Jax?

Not Jax?

Blaze's POV

My eyes stayed glued on the building in front of me, and before I could speak, Celine and Father were already making their way into the uncompleted factory.

I and Milo walked behind father, and as usual, we left Jax in the car to plant bugs in any security camera he detected.

Getting in, “Are you sure this is the place?” Milo asked again as he stared around.

The place looked empty as if everything had been abandoned for ages. Then, Celine stared at us and placed her hand on her mouth.

“Shush,” she whispered, and with the clothes in hand, she started chanting some things as she moved forward.

I saw Father following her, and with no other option than to trust her guidance, I followed until we got to the front of a worn-out elevator.

My eyes squinted because there was electricity in the elevator. If the building was abandoned, why was there electricity?

I walked ahead. “Stand behind,” I murmured to everyone. I pressed the elevator button, and it indeed opened.

“Wow,” Milo whispered, walking into the elevator.

“I guess it’s more than what we see after all,” Father said, stepping into the elevator.

Since we didn’t know the particular stop, Celine used the clothes to trace the location. Eventually, the clothes took us to the last floor.

Immediately the elevator stopped and we stepped into the room, my eyes widened slightly.

“What the fuck,” Milo bellowed as he looked around, but, Celine kept walking to God knew where.

My eyes darted around. This place looked like high tech but a little bit scattered. My eyes caught the screen in front of me.

“What the hell,” I whispered when I saw the systems were used to monitor the whole building. Suddenly, my eyes caught something on the screen.

“Isn’t this…” I couldn’t finish my statement when Milo butt in.

“Wait… is that our fucking house?” Milo asked as he pointed at the screen.

I frowned. They had been keeping tabs on us? I walked closer, about to take a closer look, when I heard Celine’s voice.

“Over here now!” she yelled, making me stop and walk to where she was.

On getting there, I saw a large tub, and inside the tub was a human or was not.

“It’s the clone Savena,” I heard Celine say calmly as she folded the clothes in her hand.

I squinted my eyes, observing the body. She looked so real, yet a thought weighed on my mind. If they left the clone Savena here, did that mean they fled before we got here?

“They found out we were coming,” Father said as he rubbed his forehead.

“Wait… she’s breaking apart,” Milo said with wide eyes as he walked closer to the tub.

My eyes remained glued on the clone in the tub. The body was melting.

“They just left, with the way the clone is dissolving,” Celine said, clamping her hands together, making me stare at her.

“What do you mean?” I asked because I thought they probably left before we came.

“They already knew she was of no use, and taking her meant we would be able to track them, so they discarded her,” she explained, staring at us.

Then she added, “Moreover, if they left for a long time, the body would probably have dissolved already,” she said, her gaze on the clone Savena.

“So, they left probably a few minutes ago,” I whispered, making Celine nod.

I clenched my fist. We didn’t have time to waste here. If we leave now, we might still be able to catch them.

I turned, already making my way to the cracked elevator. I didn’t have to inform Milo, he was already right behind me.

My heart raced fast because if we didn’t get them, we might probably lose this opportunity for life. On our way outside, I placed my hand on the ear pod.

“Jax, did you notice anyone leaving?” I asked as I stepped out of the elevator.

“No, why?” Jax said with a calm voice.

“The bastard fled. Are you sure you did not see any car?” I asked again to be sure maybe he missed something he wasn’t paying attention to.

“I’m sure I, wait… I think..Shit! I found them.” I heard Jax’s voice with the Bluetooth getting disconnected.

I made my way out of the building. “Milo, you take the other side,” I whispered to Milo, and he nodded and ran to the left while I walked calmly on the right. I brought out the gun from my pants pocket.

I placed my hand on the Bluetooth. I tried to get to Jax, however, I couldn't hear anything.

Did he drop his ear pod before leaving the car? I sighed. He should at least have told me where they were.

I connected to Milo. “Did you find them?” I asked him, my eyes darting around the empty street.

“I can’t find anything here,” Milo whispered with a heavy breath. He was probably running around the area.

Suddenly, I heard a beep. “Yes, did you…” I didn’t finish my word when I heard Milo’s trembling voice.

“I found them, I fucking found them, but it’s not l…looking good…” I heard Milo’s cracked voice followed by a gunshot.

“Shit!” I cursed as I ran to the left. On finding them, my steps halted. Without paying attention to Milo and Jax, I focused on the car moving ahead. I tried to fire, but it was of no use, they already escaped.

“Fuck!” I swore while running my hand through my hair.

I decided to walk closer to Jax and Milo. That was when I saw Jax laying in a pool of blood. My body froze instantly.

“Blaze, what do I do, Ja… Jax,” I heard Milo’s trembling voice, his hand pressed on Jax’s belly.

I clenched my trembling fists and bent to look at Jax. But despite the fact he was bleeding, he held onto the forbidden.

“I got the bo..book.” Jax tried to say but ended up coughing out blood.

“Don’t talk,” I and Milo snapped at him at the same time.

“Take the book from him, Milo,” I said before carrying Jax in my arms.

We rushed to where the car was. “Hang in there, don’t fucking close your eyes,” I said when I saw he was about to sleep.

When we got to the car, Father and Celine were already standing at the car door. I saw him run to where I was.

“What, when, I mean how did this happen?” Father asked as his voice shook.

I was trying so hard to stay calm. Without answering my father I placed Jax gently in the back seat.

Suddenly, Celine walked forward. “This is not the time for questions,” she said as she placed her hand on his stomach.

Immediately, we all climbed into the car. “Call the doctor. We will be in the hospital in the next thirty minutes,” I said to Milo, whose eyes were red.

I bit my lips as my gaze shifted to Jax. If I said I wasn’t scared, then I was a fucking liar. Jax was always the one who barely got hurt among us, and whenever we were hurt, he was always the one to attend to us, so seeing him like this really made my heart sting.

“Drive faster. I don’t think I can stabilize him for long,” I heard Celine bellow to the driver.

I clamped my hands together, staring at Celine whose face was filled with beads of sweat. She was probably losing her strength.

Eventually, we got to the hospital. Stretchers were already rolled out, the doctors and nurses lined up.

Milo was already on the edge of crying with the way his hands were trembling.

Jax was rolled inside as I walked behind. The doctors had probably prepared for the surgery. We all stood outside the theater.

I placed my head on my hand, staring into space until Father came to stand beside me.

“You should go and get Thalia and Rhys. Time is not on our side,” he said in a low voice.

My heart skipped. How could I have forgotten we had people t
o rescue?

I nodded at Father and stared at the theater one last time before leaving the hospital. I really hoped Jax would be fine.
