Chapter 69 Confrontation
Eric's words fired me up big time.
I stared down the old man with the white beard across from me, feeling bolder than ever.
Despite the crowd around me, the mere thought of Eric waiting outside instantly eased my concerns.
I said, "No matter what happens today, I'm taking her with me."
I faced him head-on, giving off my strongest vibe.
The bodyguards across from me were taken aback by my guts.
They exchanged looks, probably waiting to see what would happen to me.
"Well, I'd like to see who can come to your rescue today," the old man with the white beard laughed, his eyes full of scorn.
He really looked like he needed a good punch.
I pressed my lips together and stayed quiet. In a flash, I grabbed the rope tied to Amelia and yanked her to my side.
"Grab her!"
"How dare you touch my person."
Two voices rang out at the same time as Eric drove up to the crowd.
I stared at Eric in the driver's seat, my heart pounding like crazy.
He did look super handsome, but could he at least give me a heads-up before showing off? This was too much.
"Who the hell are you?" The lead bodyguard glared at Eric with disdain and raised his hand to hit him.
My heart clenched, but in the next instant, the lead bodyguard was sprawled on the ground.
Eric casually rubbed his palm and said calmly, "If you still want to stay in Starlight City, you'd better behave, or I can't guarantee what will happen to you."
He clapped his hands, and Jonathan suddenly appeared from behind. A bunch of bodyguards followed closely behind Jonathan.
Their burly figures instantly reminded me of the bodyguards who had protected me before. So these people were all Eric's guys? Could this man really be some kind of CEO?
Taking advantage of everyone's attention being on Eric, I quietly moved closer to him with the box and Amelia.
As I approached, the old man suddenly caught sight of me.
"None of you are leaving today," he growled, and the bodyguards immediately lunged at me.
I widened my eyes, quickly thinking of the best way to dodge.
But with both hands occupied, I didn't dare to move recklessly.
Just as the man's hand was about to hit my face, a pair of hands suddenly appeared around my waist.
Eric looked at me with an inexplicable expression, opened the car's back door, and unceremoniously threw Amelia inside.
That move was no different from tossing out the trash. She was still a person after all. I could only silently complain in my head, not daring to say it out loud in front of him.
"Didn't expect Mr. Allen to fancy such a woman. It seems your taste is quite ordinary," the old man with the white beard said, looking at us with a disdainful expression.
What did he mean? How could his taste be considered average just because he fancied me?
"When you are talking, there's no need to belittle me. You even kidnapped my friend. This won't end easily. Just wait until I get out and find someone to deal with you." I straightened my back, my attitude particularly strong.
With Eric right beside me, I didn't believe the old man would dare do anything to me.
"Given Mr. Allen's status, even if he can't marry a wealthy heiress, he should at least find a suitable match. You, with just looks and nothing else, won't bring him any benefits. I don't get what he sees in you," the old man sneered, looking at me with even more disdain.
"But he chose me. What can you do about it?" I shot back with a mocking smile.
The old man's face paled with anger, and he uttered coldly, "What you gain through your looks, you will ultimately lose because of them. Your relationship won't last."
I was about to retort when Eric grabbed my hand.
He blocked the old man's scrutinizing gaze and said harshly, "You needn't worry about my affairs. Instead, considering the unscrupulous deeds you've committed, aren't you afraid of completely ruining your family's fortune?"
The old man's face stiffened, retorting sharply, "You know nothing. I'm doing this for the child's own good."
"Aaron made a mistake, and I'm just helping him out. It's not what you call doing bad things. The woman beside you..." The old man wanted to continue, but Eric casually threw an apple at him, cutting him off.
I quietly looked at Eric, my expression complicated.
He knew what the old man was going to say, and it was undoubtedly related to me. But he interrupted him.
Lately, he had been hiding something from me. I really couldn't accept it.
"Eric, I want to know what happens next," I muttered.
Eric sighed. "Knowing too much won't do you any good. Listen to me, get in the car first."
With that, he opened the car door.
I struggled and kicked him.
Fortunately, Eric didn't mind and pulled me into the passenger seat.
"Buckle up. It might get a bit tricky later," he said, glancing at me before stepping on the gas. Then the car shot forward.
Luckily, the seatbelt held me in place, or I would have hit the windshield.
Amelia, left unprotected in the back seat and still bound, tumbled from the seat to the floor with a loud thud that made me flinch. But she remained unconscious, seemingly feeling nothing.
I clutched the seatbelt and couldn't help but ask, "With so many of them, can we really get away smoothly?"
Eric didn't respond, just frowned and looked at Jonathan.
Jonathan waved his hand, signaling me to relax, and turned to command the others.
The old man with the white beard was completely blocked by Jonathan's men, with no chance of leaving.
I sat in the car, heart pounding, watching Eric drive away.
"Why did Jonathan suddenly show up? Weren't you two arguing?" I asked, looking worriedly at the villa.
Eric, stepping on the gas, didn't relax a bit. "He knows what's important."
"Don't worry about him; letting him handle the aftermath is better than all of us staying behind," Eric said, looking at the navigation and driving us to our villa.
Outside the villa, his expression finally softened a bit.
"Untie her and give her some tea," Eric said, taking the box.
I struggled to pull Amelia out of the car and slowly helped her inside.
"Amelia, wake up." I carefully fed her tea, observing her condition.
After drinking the tea, Amelia still didn't move.
Meanwhile, Jonathan returned alone.
Jonathan said, "The old man fainted, and most of the bodyguards were dealt with. I sent them back."
He walked in and saw Amelia on the floor, his expression stiffening.
