Chapter 67 Let's Leave It at That

"Do you mean Amelia?" I blinked, totally confused.

Eric shot me a look of pure disdain. "Got any other dumb friends?"

I could hear the sarcasm dripping from his voice, so I kept my mouth shut.

I had trailed Amelia to Green Hill Mansion that night, but I hadn't connected all the dots. I was itching to find out who that woman truly was.

"So, are we going now?" I instinctively hooked my arm around Eric's.

Eric, looking annoyed, pulled out a box, stuffed the little white snake into it, and tossed it into the car like it was no big deal.

He then dragged me to the passenger seat and hopped into the driver's seat himself.

"We're just gonna head straight there? Won't that cause any trouble?" I asked, feeling a bit uneasy.

Eric gave me a blank look and glanced at the time. "If you want her dead, then go ahead and keep wasting time."

That shut me up. Amelia couldn't die.

Eric flicked my forehead and took off immediately.

As we left the park, he said quietly, "With me around, nothing's gonna happen to you. Otherwise, I'd have to save two people at once, and that's just a hassle."

His slightly disdainful tone made me twitch the corners of my mouth.

I thought, 'Fine, he's the boss.'

I just stayed quiet, waiting for him to help me save Amelia.

Eric focused on driving while I texted Thea to ask about Amelia.

It turned out, she hadn't gone home at all last night. No one had seen her since.

After reading her message, I had only one hunch: If Amelia didn't go home, she must have headed to Green Hill Mansion.

So, we headed straight there.

Judging by the navigation, it seemed like Eric planned to go there from the start.

I looked at him suspiciously. "How'd you guess she didn't go home? How'd you know she'd be here?"

Plus, I felt like I told Eric something last night. Why couldn't I remember anything from yesterday?

Eric glanced at me quickly and said slowly, "I know everything. This is a piece of cake."

I didn't argue. He was pretty capable, after all.

But I still had to ask about my memory. "Eric, are you hiding something from me? Like, why some of my memories are suddenly fuzzy?"

Eric slammed on the brakes at a red light, his body stiffening.

When he turned to look at me, his eyes were full of exasperation. "What else could be in your head besides dirty thoughts? Is there anything worth keeping secret?"

I choked and quickly retorted, "We're engaged, so it's normal for me to have those thoughts. Besides, if I suddenly knew some secret, it would be normal for you to make me forget to avoid killing me to keep it."

Eric ignored me and drove the car skillfully inside.

Last night, Andrew had entered using his status as a resident. What about Eric?

Just as I was about to ask, he tossed me a set of keys. "I've got a place here too."

His domineering statement shut me up.

Walking here in broad daylight, the scenery was even better than at night.

But I didn't have time to admire it; I led Eric straight to the building where Amelia had gone.

When we got to the entrance, the door was still wide open.

The difference now was there was a sleek black business car parked inside.

Last night, the darkness had obscured the layout, but now, as I stood in the courtyard, the lavish setup was laid bare before me. I couldn't help but click my tongue in awe. So many affluent individuals in this world, and yet, I couldn't count myself among them.

Eric glanced at me and walked in slowly. "Let's go."

I quickly followed, and we ended up hiding behind a cabinet in the backyard in a rather awkward position.

Eric, on the other hand, looked calm and collected, showing no signs of awkwardness.

Just as I was about to sneak in to see where Amelia was, a sudden, intense feeling of love surged in my chest.

The feeling made me instinctively grab Eric's hand.

My lips curled up, and a faint blush appeared on my face.

"Emily, what madness possesses you?" Eric glanced at me, quickly waving his hand dismissively.

I gritted my teeth, trying to suppress the emotion.

But the feeling was too strong, leaving me with no resistance. Who was doing this to me? It was a sensation far more profound than what Quinn had evoked before.

My waist uncontrollably pressed against Eric, and my hand rubbed his abs.

My mouth spoke words I would never dare to say in my life. "Eric, your abs feel so good. Let me touch them tonight. You haven't been intimate with me for a long time. Do you find me unattractive? Why don't you care about me? You won't even kiss me. Don't you love me anymore? Let's go home. I want to sit on your lap and ride like a rocking horse!"

As I spoke, my hand slipped under Eric's shirt, touching his abs.

Seeing my intense gaze, Eric's face turned completely dark.

He grabbed my hand and flicked my forehead hard.

"Emily, calm down." He held my hand and leaned down to bite my ear.

The cool sensation made me instantly more alert.

Now I was utterly embarrassed. How could I say such things?

Eric's chin rested on my shoulder, his breathing slightly heavy.

I was too embarrassed to speak, worried that Eric would be furious with me.

Fortunately, he quickly stood up and looked at me deeply. "You have my scent on you, so you won't be bothered by those evil things for now."

As he finished speaking, I felt noticeably lighter. Indeed, it was much better.

But thinking about what I had just said, I couldn't bring myself to look at him.

Eric didn't seem to mind much. Instead, he covered my mouth. "Don't talk. Your friend should be in the living room."

He grabbed my hand and quickly walked towards the hall.

As we drew nearer, I noticed that Amelia was tied up, with an elderly man sporting a white beard also present in the room.

I was about to speak when Eric glared at me.

"What are they doing? It doesn't look like anything good." I cautiously observed the surroundings, afraid of being discovered, and lightly gripped Eric's clothes.

There were many candles on the floor, and a coffin in the room.

Amelia was tied up, and a woman in a wedding dress lay on the sofa, her face obscured. The large room felt particularly eerie.
