Chapter 62 Protecting You
Roy kept grinning at me, but his gaze felt unsettling. I swallowed hard, suddenly trying to think of a way to outsmart him.
Since Roy hadn't been around here long, maybe he wasn't that sharp.
I bit my lip and said, all pitiful, "If you're investigating me, you should know my situation. If I don't get the antidote, I'm toast. Do you really want a dead person hanging around you? But when Eric's with me, I'm alive."
Since there's some beef between you two, I could use that to my advantage.
Roy's eyes narrowed as he listened. "But if you croak right in front of him, he'll be crushed."
Roy shrugged, his grin getting even wider.
I kept cursing Roy in my head but outwardly maintained a sad expression.
He promised me something when we met. Now he won't even bring it up. Roy's just messing with me. Does he want to eat me alive? But didn't he give me a ring? What's this guy's deal?
I fought the urge to punch him and calmly said, "Just tell me what you want."
Seeing my impatience, he suddenly smirked, "You have a point. Eric had the best of you, so I'll hog you for the rest of the time, making him lose it completely."
Roy leaned back in his chair, laughing even harder.
I stared at Roy, totally confused. But he did have a point.
As we talked, the coffee arrived.
I took a slow sip of the bitter Americano, my face scrunching up from the taste.
He copied me and took a sip too. "So bitter, are you nuts?"
Roy's face twisted, and he tossed the cup on the table in disgust.
I rolled my eyes at him and kept drinking.
Ignoring Roy's cold stare, I said seriously, "Since you've figured it out, give me the antidote."
Roy's expression turned serious as well, and he replied softly, "But you have to promise me one thing first."
Even though I knew he was up to no good, I still hated this method.
My guard went up instantly, and I clutched my bag.
Roy cleared his throat. "No need to freak out. I just want you to save my life if anything happens in the future."
I thought, 'Save him? What's that about? Does he know Eric's coming for him and wants a backup plan?'
Though puzzled, I nodded.
My quick agreement made him hesitate. He said, "So quick, you must be lying to me. Let me tell you, if I can give you the antidote, I can also deal with you anytime."
Roy's serious look left no room for doubt.
Given his past actions, I had no doubt Roy would think of it again.
But he was right. Once I get the antidote, Roy's words won't matter. I didn't believe he could touch me while I was with Eric.
"I'm right here; you can find me anytime. If I lie to you, you can take revenge." I stared at him seriously, not joking at all.
Roy gave me a long, hard look and finally nodded in agreement.
In the end, I got the antidote.
"Even though you're with Eric now, you'll be mine in the future. I'll protect you and won't let anyone mess with you. You'll be happier with me," Roy said, suddenly serious, making me a bit uneasy.
I replied, "If you need to reach me, use the phone."
Then I brought up Zara. "Do you know about Zara? Did you do something to her?"
"I killed her," Roy said without hesitation.
His bluntness made me suspicious.
"Why? Did you have some grudge against her?" I couldn't imagine what beef a living person could have with him.
He said plainly, "Zara stole my poison. It was meant for someone else, but she dared to use it on you. Didn't she deserve to die? Since you couldn't deal with her, I took care of it. She committed suicide; no one knows. I helped you out. Shouldn't you thank me?"
He explained it like he did me a favor, but I felt a deep fear inside.
If he could easily deal with Zara, he could deal with me anytime.
Roy, who could find me silently, could control me for any reason in the future.
He said it was for me, but who knew the real reason?
I quickly checked the time on my phone, "It's late; I should go home. Goodbye."
I turned to leave, but Roy suddenly sat beside me and grabbed my sleeve. I was forced to meet his gaze, and as I saw his cold eyes, my heart tightened.
I thought, 'It's over; he's pissed.'
Roy scoffed, "Getting what you want and leaving right away—are you in that much of a hurry, or are you just that eager to ditch me?"
I stiffly asked, "We've finished talking. Do you have any other questions?"
Who could stay with a murderer? Just hearing about his methods scared me.
"Roy, you should let go."
Andrew suddenly spoke, gently patting my shoulder.
With that, Roy completely let go of my hand.
I suddenly felt a strong mix of love and hate, making me uncomfortable.
What were these brothers hiding?
Eric once said I could easily sense others' emotions.
There were two people around me. When Roy appeared, there were no emotions. When Andrew got close, the emotions overwhelmed me, making me tingle all over.
Could it be that these brothers... Various scenarios played out in my mind.
Finally, I couldn't resist looking up and secretly observing them. They truly did look alike, but their temperaments were entirely opposite. Andrew was pleasant, whereas Roy was malicious.
"If there's nothing else, I'll leave now."
I instinctively wanted to run, but they both grabbed my arms.
Upon seeing Andrew, Roy's smile grew even wider.
"Andrew, long time no see. Don't you recognize your own brother?" He taunted Andrew, his eyes cold.
Andrew's face instantly turned cold. "You've disrupted her life repeatedly. What do you want?"
