Chapter 107 Chapter 107
The three of them were seated at the main table of the great chamber in the Wilder manor, awkwardly waiting for the arrival of the guests from other packs.
‘Are we sure I’m meant to be here?’ Brendan asked down the bond, whispering, as if anyone else would somehow hear him and spot the fault they made allowing him into such a sacred room, which a Rogue is not permitted to enter, ever. ‘Maybe they meant only you two.’
‘The guard specified that it was us three.’
‘Bren, you’re making me sweat. Please calm down,’ Reynard exhaled down the bond.
Suki, sitting between both her mates, took hold of both their hands. ‘Whatever happens today, just know I love you both.’
The trio had done so much good in the past few days. However, there was still much to be concerned about.
Even though Brendan’s intentions were pure, he broke the rules he agreed on with the Alpha to allow his residence within the pack. By marking Suki, he broke that rule and the trust the Alpha offered him. He broke the rules again by leaving the pack without permission to save his mate.
Reynard wasn’t safe from ridicule either – the star warrior of the pack, the most trusted ally, the one who always stuck by the rules. Yet he didn’t report Brendan’s bond with Suki, or the fact she was bonded to two mates rather than one. His secrecy could be seen as a problem, diminishing the trust he had built over the years.
It was the same case for Suki; as a Beta-daughter, she should have known better than to have trusted a Rogue, even if she was bonded to him. She should have reported it and not kept it a secret.
And though their bond was already sealed, many packs would never allow such an abnormal bond to exist. There was a high chance they would be forced to break their bonds and find other mates.
‘I love you too, Ki.’
‘Me too, love.’
The room slowly filled with more people – council members of Moonstone, and members of other packs began to emerge too: Frostfang, Dusklight, Silver Moon–
Suki’s eyes met Amelia’s, the Alpha of Silver Moon, and a small wave of relief took over her. It was nice to see at least one friendly face. She nodded her head to her.
She smiled, nodding her head back as she leaned towards a man that Suki didn’t recognise. He was incredibly handsome with curly, chestnut hair and had piercing emerald eyes that scanned the room twice over, as if he was surveying for any and all potential threats.
Another man appeared on the other side of her. He looked just like Amelia’s mate, Everett, but with shorter hair and darker grey eyes. He had to be his brother, Gabriel. That meant the two men must’ve been her personal guards.
It was still a risk being a female Alpha after all.
Suki was confused as to why Everett wasn’t in attendance with his mate, but instantly she realised it was likely because of the threats Hadeon brought to not only Moonstone, but all packs. Amelia likely made Everett stay to protect Silver Moon in her absence, and Everett certainly ensured she had all the protection she needed in his.
‘That was who you were going to force a bond with?’
‘No, that’s his brother–‘
‘Oh, don’t tell me the other brother is even more good-looking.’
‘Brendan, shush.’
‘I will not! I see why Mr Perfect was so intimidated now.’
Rey almost choked on the air around him. ‘I was not intimidated. I was–’
‘Jealous?’
‘Like you are right now?’ he retorted.
A pause.
Suki bit down on her lower lip, holding back her laughter and shaking her head slightly.
Once everyone was seated, Alpha Wilder stood and greeted everyone, “Thank you for your coopertation to attend this meeting so last minute. I know you all have your own issues to deal with in your own packs right now, so I won’t keep you long.” He cleared his throat. “We are here to discuss the punishment to issue on Hadeon Ateos, a traitor not only to his pack, but to his brothers and sisters of the werewolf race.”
The Alpha of Frostfang stood. “We at Frostfang appreciate you wanting us to give our input; however, shouldn’t the punishment be issued by the Alpha of his pack?”
A deep growl from behind Frostfang’s Alpha made him turn, followed by everyone else all turning to face the doorway.
A shadowy cloud moved through the door, and emerging through the depths of the dark shadow was said Alpha – Alpha Conri.
Brendan shifted in his seat. The last time he laid eyes on his former Alpha, he nearly faced death at his hands.
Suki squeezed his hand, and Reynard comforted him through the bond.
“Correct,” Alpha Conri grumbled. “Hence why you’re greeted with my presence.”
Alpha Wilder exhaled, “The reason why you all are here is because of the severity of the manner. Hadeon threatened us all, and therefore we all deserve an input into further actions.”
Amelia cleared her throat and stood. “With all due respect, Alpha Wilder, I’ve read about Alpha Conri and how serious he takes his… punishments.” Her eyes flickered over to Brendan for a split second, then back to Alpha Wilder. “I believe I speak for everyone here when I say that whatever he would issue would be justified.”
Murmurs of agreement echoed throughout the room.
The shadows followed Alpha Conri as he paced over to Amelia. He towered over her and eyed her up and down. “Alpha Amaris,” he purred. “The first ever female Alpha to walk among us.” His stance was borderline threatening against Amelia, as if he were trying to scare her.
Gabriel clenched his fists and almost moved to stand, but Amelia slowly held out a hand to stop him before he could.
“You hold your ground well. I met your father in my youth; he’d be proud of who you’ve become, Alpha.”
Suki smiled, almost mirroring Amelia’s confident smirk.
Alpha Conri turned to the table. “Alpha Amaris is correct. There is only one punishment that I can justify as worthy for a crime to the extent of what Mr Ateos has done, and that is…” The brief pause he held in the room was sickeningly loud and lasted for what felt like a lifetime. “Death.”
