Confronting
Scarlett’s Point of View
My eyes snapped open when I felt cold water on my skin, sending a shiver down my spine and drenching my clothes.
I gasped, shocked.
“You are finally awake, dear sister.” I moved my attention to the sound of Scarlynn’s voice. She sat on the chair, a group of men stood by her sides, and my eyes widened to see Shane and Mark seated next to her.
My muscles quivered beneath my skin. I tried to shrug out of the chair, but both my feet and hands were tied behind me.
A frustrated sigh escaped my lips as my eyes finally locked with Scarlynn’s.
“What do you want, Scarlynn?” A heat flushed up to my face, leaving me overheated. I swear if I can stand up from this chair, I'm going to kill her and bury her in my backyard.
Scarlynn sneered, her eyes never leaving mine.
“Oh, Scarlett, my dearest sister.” She rose from the chair and began to walk over.
She stood in front of me, a gun in her hand, and brought it over to my face, lifting my chin with it.
I let out a mocking chuckle, my eyes locking with hers. “You've stooped so low in your life that right now you are pathetic.” I taunted, a smirk tugging at the corner of my lips. “Why do you hate me so much, huh? What have I done to you that you hate me with everything in your veins?”
In a swift movement, Scarlynn’s palm connected with my cheek, leaving a hot, sharp pain cutting through my skin.
I huffed a laugh, my eyes twinkling with mockery.
“Deep down, you know that you have no valid reason for hating me the way you do.” I snorted loudly. “You are just insecure with yourself, and that's the reason why you hate me so much. You are so jealous of me that you wish to even steal my shadow, and that's just how pathetic your life has become. You are obsessed with my existence.” I continued.
I had nothing to lose at this point in my life. I don't care about her. The second she releases me, I'm going to kill her, and that's my final decision. Having a sister like Scarlynn didn't need me to have any enemies. She was my enemy, and she'd do anything to destroy me, so why can't I do the same thing?
“Yes, you are right. I hate you, Scarlett. I hate you so much that seeing you breathing suffocates me.” She threw me an intense, fevered stare, her skin flushing red. “You've always been better than me effortlessly since childhood. You've always got good grades at school, everyone loves you. Even when we were identical twins, you were more beautiful than me, and all the guys loved you.” Her breath was now coming in short gasps, sharp. “I've always hated you, Scarlett, but you were too foolish to see it. Then I planned your death. Everything was going according to my plan, but who was I kidding? You went ahead and lured Asher into your black magic. He should have killed you, but instead, he fell in love with you. Do you now see why I hate you? You are always better than me in everything, and that drives me crazy.”
She was panting hard, her eyes now wide with rage.
I couldn't help but chuckle. “It must have been so hard on you, isn't it?” A mocking smile tugged at my lips.
“Never once did I hate you in my entire life, even when our parents loved you more than me. I've always been the one to make sacrifices for you. I'm the one who lived as your shadow. Why are you even complaining? You got everything you wanted without lifting a finger, but I worked for everything I wanted. I never got anything for free, even when we were both children, but I never complained or cried about it, nor did I even hate you. I loved you, and I still do because you are my sister. We shared the same womb and the same breast. That's the reason why I turned a blind eye to everything, but your jealousy got the best of you.”
My voice was slightly raised, my heart banging against my chest. “I'm grateful for your hatred towards me because you pushed me into the arms of the most wonderful man on this planet, and I'm not letting him go for you. One of us has to die today, and I know it's not me. But you are.” My gaze was now sharp, stern, locking with hers.
Scarlynn burst into laughter, her voice echoing inside the quiet room. “Asher is mine, Scarlett, and I'm going to keep you alive so you'd witness him coming back to me. He'd never stay with a woman who can't give him children, but I can. Once I get pregnant with his child, he's going to divorce you and marry me.” She taunted.
And it was my turn to laugh.
“Asher would rather die than marry you, Scarlynn. Trust me, our love is stronger than your jealousy or evil plans. My husband loves me so much that he'd rather die than leave me for you, out of all people.” My voice was laced with confidence.
I meant each and every word. I have confidence in our love, and I trust my husband and each and every word he's ever told me because I know he meant it. I'm not going to let Scarlynn belittle me just because I couldn't have children. So what if I can't? I'm still a woman after all.
“Oh, come on, Scarlett, are you really so naive?” Scarlynn scoffed, raising her hand dismissively. “All men want to have children, and Asher is like all other men. He is going to leave you for me.”
I rolled my eyes, trying hard not to let her words get into my brain. I can't listen to any word that comes out of her mouth.
“And do you think you are better than me?” I asked. “Asher would rather stay with a woman who can't have children than stay with an evil woman like you, a woman who is so heartless to the point of killing her own child because of a man. I mean, seriously, what kind of a monster have you become? When was the last time you looked at yourself in the mirror? Do you sleep well at night after what you did?”
My words seemed to have hit her hard. She froze on the ground, her face turning pale for a few seconds before she pulled herself together. “Guards, beat her up,” she instructed. A group of her men rushed over to me, attacking me from every corner, beating, kicking, and slapping me while Scarlynn burst into laughter, watching the scene.
