Lies

Lies
Scarlett’s Point of View

The sound of my heels clicking against the tile echoed inside the sitting room as I descended the stairs. Scarlynn and her mother quickly rose off the couch upon seeing me. My lips stretched across my face, but my smile didn't reach my eyes. I guess Asher was right; I'd destroy them with this very smile.

Scarlynn rushed over to me, wrapping her arms around me and bursting into sobs, her crocodile tears welling up in her eyes.

“What happened to you, Scarlynn? Why are you crying?” My voice was laced with a fake sense of worry. I don't care about her tears; this was just the beginning. She's yet to cry.

I led her over to the couch, making her sit down while I sat opposite her. A maid approached us, setting a box of tissues on the small table.

Scarlynn reached for the tissue box, her fingers closing around the soft tissue. She gently dabbed her eyes, the tissue absorbing her tears. “I'm sorry for this; I just had no other way to go,” she sniffled softly.

I placed my hand over hers, a fake smile pasted on my lips. “Hey, you are always welcome here, okay? Please tell me what happened.” My curiosity got the best of me; I just wanted to hear what lie she was going to come up with.

“You see, my husband has left me for another woman,” Scarlynn lied through her teeth, her crocodile tears welling up in her eyes. “He chased me out of our house, he has filed for a divorce, and he took everything I've worked hard for over the years; now I'm left with nothing.” It took everything in me to not let out a scoff.

She was a professional liar; had I not known the truth about her, I'd have believed her words. Unfortunately, she was lying to the wrong person. “Don't worry, Scarlynn, you are welcome to stay here until you find another place to stay; my husband and I won't mind at all.” She wrapped her arms around me tightly.

“Thank you, Scarlett, for your support truly means a lot to me,” Scarlynn muttered. My eyes were now on Monica; she had a grin on her lips, and I was sure they came here with a plan in mind. I had to discover their plan as soon as possible before they beat me at my own game.

“Don't mention it. I'm a woman, and I can understand what you are going through.” I pulled her out of my embrace, turning my attention to Tina. “Please take them to their room upstairs.” Tina nodded, throwing me a knowing look.

“Thank you for allowing us to stay here, Scarlett, your support means a lot,” Monica spoke, her words dripping with insincerity. Had I been that foolish, Scarlett, I could have believed her, but that stupid girl was dead. I could see right through her.

I narrowed my eyes when Scarlynn stopped by the stairs, where Asher was walking down. She extended her hand to shake him, but he stared at her before he proceeded to walk down.

Could it be that she came here to seduce him and find a way to get rid of me? I wouldn't be surprised if that was actually their plan. These two are the true definition of evil, but this time, they aren't going to win.

I snapped out of my daze as Asher settled on the couch next to me. I rose, ready to leave, but he grasped my hand, pulling me into his lap.

My stupid heart began racing against my chest, an electric jolt coursing through my veins at his touch, the memories of early now flushing back to my brain.

“You know you can't avoid me forever, right?” His voice was low and husky, causing butterflies to flutter in my belly. Before I could move out of his embrace, my eyes landed on Scarlynn walking down the stairs.

For my plan to work, she had to envy everything I had, including Asher. My heart raced against my chest as I cupped Asher’s face, his eyes widened as I slammed my lips against his. He quickly returned the kiss, pulling me closer to him, my legs wrapped around his waist now straddling him.

Relief washed over me as Scarlynn cleared her throat, causing Asher to break the kiss and turn his attention to her.

“I'm sorry for disturbing you guys.” Scarlynn’s voice was just above a whisper. She leaned closer to the table, grasping her phone, and walked away.

I quickly moved out of Asher’s lap, my heart now banging against my chest. I don't like how my body reacts to his touch, like I didn't have any control over my body at all.

“I'm sorry…” I muttered, averting my gaze from his. Kissing him was the biggest mistake I made, he'd get false hopes over nothing.

Asher chuckled, his eyes never leaving mine. “As long as I get to kiss these intoxicating lips of yours, you can use me for as long as you want.” His voice dropped into a low husky tone. I swallowed hard as his words sank in, my heart racing against my chest.

I cleared my throat, trying to pull myself together. “We should move to the next part of the plan.” I forced the words out of my mouth, not daring to look into his eyes.

“We should cause a rift between them, but the question is how?” Asher asked. I let out a deep breath, glad he changed the topic immediately.

“Don't worry about that, I've already got a plan.” I told him. The video that Zone has shown me was the perfect option to cause them to fight amongst themselves. “Please do something for me.” I finally gathered the courage to look into his eyes.

“Anything for you, sweetheart.” Asher’s eyes flickered with something I couldn't quite describe. “Just name it.”

I cleared the lump forming in my throat. “I think Scarlynn has come here to seduce you and get rid of me. Please play along with her game, just for a few days.” Asher’s jaws clenched, his eyes now dark.

“I want nothing to do with that woman…” He rose off the couch, ready to leave. I quickly rose from the couch, rushing over to him, grasping his arm.

“Asher, please agree with me, it's just for a few days.” I begged. This was the only way to beat her at her own game. Asher turned to look at me. I gave him my best puppy eyes, as stupid as I was, it seems like my only option.

“Fine.” Asher let out a frustrated sigh. “But I have a condition.” I swallowed at his words, well aware of what his condition would be. But what choice do I have at this point?
