CHAPTER FIFTY-SEVEN
LUCIAN'S P.O.V
Its dark.
Too quiet.
Those were the thoughts running through my head as I floated in this endless void I called my limbo. It felt like I was trapped in a sea of nothingness. When will I be free? I wondered, its been a long time since I haven't seen the bright, blinding light of day. I haven't seen any faces, not my mother, Griffin....or even Aurora.
Aurora.
I hope she was okay...and missing me. A deep part of me wished that.
Just as I resigned myself to another bout of darkness and nothingness, I heard it. That bloodcurdling scream, it pierced through the damn darkness to reach me, straight in the chest.
'Aurora!'
Something snapped at me to wake up and I did. My eyes snapped open, I sat up gasping, taking huge gulps of air even as my lungs burned. Though my body felt heavy like lead and my muscles felt weak and didn't want to respond to me, I pushed through with a tortured groan. Aurora needs me, I can feel it in my bones and in my heart.
I managed to push myself to a standing position, my vision immediately blurred and my head felt dizzy but who cares? I stumbled out of the room like a drunk man, my hands placed on the wall for support against my shaky legs.
Where is she? Where's Aurora? My wolf and I felt our chest tightening with panic.
I heard footsteps as I stumbled down the empty corridor, then a gasp and something hitting the floor. I turned to see mom staring at me, her hands to her face, eyes wide as her tray lay scattered on the floor.
"Lucian!" She screamed and ran towards me, tears running down her face and a smile on her lips. "You're awake! I knew you would wake up. My Lucian." She cried while pressing me to her.
I knew I should comfort her and tell her that I'm also glad to see her, but right now only the growing sense of urgency flooded my mind.
"Mom....Aurora..." I gritted out, leaving her grasp and heading downstairs where I had felt her scream.
"Lucian?" Mom called in a worried voice.
I stumbled out of the room, my eyes scanning the hallway, but it was empty. I heard footsteps, and I turned to see my mother rushing towards me, a look of concern on her face.
As soon as I reached the large sitting room, the first thing I noticed was Alpha Kieran, standing in the middle of the room with a confused look on his face. His face was white and he kept on biting his lips, he froze immediately he sighted me.
"Lucian?"
I didn't even bother looking at him.
"Aurora!" I tried shouting but my voice could barely make it out the room because of how hoarse it was. "Aurora!"
"She's missing, I can't find her anywhere."
He suddenly told me, his voice shaky.
It felt like I'd been punched in the gut. My legs gave out and my vision blurred.
"No! No! No!
I clutched my head as I roared.
"Lucian!" I heard mom's faint voice behind me, a pair of hands caught me just as soon as I felt myself slipping into the darkness.
"Aurora!"
My voice snapped me awake, I sat up straight, my head now felt lighter and my vision was clear.
"Lucian, you're awake." Mom's voice came from beside me, her face looked pale and drawn out. In her hand was a piece of paper.
"How are you feeling now?"
"I'm fine. Where is Aurora? Is she really missing?" I asked, praying silently that it was all a dream but my hope was shattered as mom shook her head, lips trembling.
"I...I think she's truly missing. She left this...before she...was taken..."
With trembling hands, I took the paper. My eyes shook as I read through the letter. She was....she was going to leave me? With Kieran?
"Why would she think leaving would be a good idea? How?...why?" I whispered, squeezing the paper in my hands.
"She had been going through a lot after what happened, even more before she met you I'm sure. I guess she couldn't take it anymore." Her voice was soft as she spoke.
I felt a surge of anger course through me. Kieran. This was all his fault. A breath escaped me as I stood up.
"Lucian..." Mom looked at me in concern but I interrupted.
"From now on, I'm taking on the alpha title. Is that okay by you mom?"
She nodded.
Immediately, I felt something looking me to everyone in the pack, like a red string had been tied around my chest and connected to everyone. I'm sure they felt it too, the emergence of a new alpha because within minutes, the pack house was filled to the brim with the lot.
"From now on, I, Lucian Vaugh, hereby take on the title of Alpha of this pack. Does anyone have any problem with that?" I let my gaze roam each and everyone's faces.
They all shook their heads, most of them even had a happy smiles on their faces.
"Very well then. The rest of your may go but all able bodied men should stay back." I commanded.
Once the house was only filled with the men, that's when I made my order.
"Aurora's missing. My mate has been taken away," I said, my voice firm, my eyes scanning the crowd. "I want everyone to search for her, every corner of this pack, every inch of this forest. I want her found, no matter what it takes."
Though they looked surprised at first, they nodded, their faces filled with determination. After they had left, I headed straight for Kieran. He was standing outside the pack house, his head lowered in thought. He raised his head to look at me once he felt my presence.
"You," I growled, my voice low, my hands clenched into fists. "You are the cause of this! She's missing because of you and you couldn't even protect her!"
His face was expressionless, but I saw the flicker of guilt in his eyes, and it only made me angrier. I launched myself at him, my fists flying, but he didn't defend himself, he just took the blows, his face impassive. I hit him again and again, my anger and frustration boiling over, but he just stood there, taking it. Finally, I collapsed, my energy spent, my body weak. He looked down at me, his face bruised and battered and bleeding, but his eyes were sorrowful.
"I'm sorry, Lucian," he said, his voice low. "I didn't mean for this to happen."
With anger lacing my voice, I whispered, "How could you try to take her away from me? What is your plan with her?"
I stood up and looked him straight in the eyes.
"As the new alpha of Bloodfang pack, I hereby order you to leave my pack....you have done enough."
