CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
LUCIAN'S P.O.V
"What...what did you just say?"
It felt like a thunderbolt had just gone off in my head. My hands off dad as I turned to face him.
"She..." He choked out, dropping his head to his chest. "She has stopped breathing."
Numb from the news, I walked towards her and took her body into my arms. He gave her to me without any struggle. I felt her body, it was still warm but as I placed my head on her chest, my heart sank.
I felt nothing.
I heard nothing.
No pulsing heartbeat, no waft of air from her nose.
She just looked so peaceful with her eyes closed, her long lashes were splayed beautifully over her cheeks. With trembling hands, I brushed my fingers lightly on her smooth cheeks.
"No...No...please, Aurora..." I sobbed as I pulled her to my chest, tears dripping down my face. "Please come back to me...I'm sorry I couldn't protect you from this even after I promised you. Please wake up.....please..."
I shook her lightly, screaming my lungs out.
A movement caught my eyes, dad was about to sit down, an anguished growl escaped my lips. I gently laid her to the floor and stormed over to him. Before I knew it, I lashed out at him, punching him in the face. That wasn't enough for me so I kept on punching until I just grabbed him by the neck.
"You!...what did she ever do to you? Tell me! She was just an innocent girl!" I sobbed, my vision blurry. "You hated her just because she was an Omega? Was it her fault? Who chooses what they want to be if not the goddess? I hate you so fucking much!"
I felt exhausted and fell to my knees with my hands cradling my head.
"
For all its worth..." Dad began, his throat hoarse but his tone cold. "...I never meant to kill her, but this...this outcome is still the best."
I was about to raise my head when someone rushed forward, I heard a thud and a grunt. I looked up to see dad clutching his bloodied cheek and Kieran breathing harshly in front of him. His silver eyes were now black as he glared at him.
"You monster!" He growled in a low voice, "I knew you were wicked and inhumane but this...killing an innocent girl just because...you are nothing but an animal and you don't deserve to be called an alpha."
I watched him silently as he swallowed, his eyes suddenly became misty and a few teardrops slipped from his eyes.
"I...I hereby declare war on you, not your pack."
Dad gasped and looked at him, "What do you mean?"
"Its either that or you give up your alpha title."
"How dare you suggest that I give up my..."
'Cough Cough!'
The faint sound of coughing drew our attention to Aurora's body.
"Au...Aurora?"
I whispered as I crawled frantically over to her. I let out a tearful gasp, she was alive. I held her as she coughed for a while then she took a deep breath, like she was coming out of the water. She opened her beautiful green eyes that reminded me of nature.
"Aurora!!" I cried out her name as I buried my face in her neck while sobbing. "Thank you for coming back, I'm sorry for not protecting you. Thank you..."
"Lucian?"
She softly called my name, I nodded sharply as I raised my head to look at her face. Colour was beginning to return to her face though she still seemed a bit pale.
"But how? Aurora?"
Kieran who had been standing numb behind us called her in a soft whisper. Just this once, I let her look at him without feelings of jealousy.
"Alpha Kieran."
He fell to his knees, tears streaking his cheeks.
"You're alive. I'm...I'm so glad you're alive."
She looked around her, her eyes wide and confused, she stared at me.
"What happened?"
I smiled softly, caressing her hair, letting my fingers brush through her soft strands.
"You were gone....for a while. You died...I don't know how, but you woke up again."
"Really?" Her lips and eyes were wide open, almost to the point of bulging out of their sockets.
"Yes. Are you okay, do you feel any discomfort anywhere?"
She shook her head.
"No. I'm fine...in fact..." She moved her hands up and down while grinning, I couldn't help but grin with her. "I actually feel perfect."
"Its strange..." I nodded, then I shrugged, "...but who cares, you're back and that's what matters."
I helped her up, she glanced at dad and gasped in shock.
"What happened to him?"
I glanced at him, he was still standing, a strange look in his eyes as he stared at Aurora with unwavering eyes, I growled.
"He deserves whatever happened to him."
"He should be grateful that you are alive, a war was about to happen."
Kieran growled from behind us, he smiled at her as he rubbed her arm.
"I'll see you later."
We watched as he walked away.
"He can be quite strange right?" She mused.
I shrugged, "Whatever."
I led her back to her room and put her to bed.
"There you go, please for no reason should you step out of your bed. If you need anything, just call me or any of the maids, and we'll be right there."
She shook her head, letting out a sigh.
"I already told you, how many times? I'm okay." She narrowed her eyes at me. "I might not have a complete idea of what happened but I can guess that it had something to do with your dad right?"
I bit my lips as I nodded, feeling guilty.
"I'm sorry."
She groaned, leaning her head back against the wall.
"It's okay, that's not my problem right now. I just hope he doesn't try anything on my life again." Then she laughed, her eyes creasing with delight. "Talia is never going to believe what happened to me."
I laughed alongside with her as I pat her head.
"Goodnight, see you tomorrow."
"Yeah...Goodnight."
She turned her head away and mumbled softlysoftly, just before I closed the door. A giddy smile spread onto my lips, it took me everything not your fist punch the air because of how happy I was. I arrived at my door in no time and unlocked it, about to head onto my bed. Suddenly, I felt another presence in my room.
"Who's there?"
I stepped closer, there was something on my bed.
"It's me, and I've been Waiting for you." A sultry voice answered.
Wait, the voice was familiar, I know I've heard that voice before. Using my enhanced vision, I saw who the person was. I grunted as I backed away.
"What are you doing on my bed?"
She sat up, a smile on her red lips as she caressed her legs, my eyes flew open in shock.
