Chapter 16 16
CHAPTER SIXTEEN.
AURORA'S P.O.V
"I'm beat." I muttered as I trudged my way home.
It's been a long day, with work and school. I was ready to just fall asleep. Luckily, Talia's house was available when Alpha Kieran escorted me. It turned out her parents were off on a one month trip. So I was okay for the time being.
Suddenly, I heard sounds of hurried footsteps rushing towards me. In alarm, I increased my steps and walked faster.
"Wait, wait, Aurora. Its me Griffin."
I stopped and turned round in surprise.
"Griffin?"
I knew him, he was Lucian's best friend and beta. Why was he calling me. I stood there unsure as he ran towards me, a look of urgency on his face.
"I'm sorry to stop you like this but I just wanted to ask if you know where Lucian is?" He rushed out, his eyes stared intently at me.
I blinked and shook my head.
"No, I don't. I haven't seen him since. Nor do I want to anyway."
He didn't pay attention to my last sentence.
"Man, where could he be? I can't even reach him on the phone, its like he disappeared over night"
I didn't think Lucian is the type to do something stupid because of an argument, right?
I looked up at Griffin, a little concern reflecting on my face.
"Do you think he went somewhere to cool off?"
He shook his head.
"No, he left his wallet and his phone. Lucian would never do that unless it was an emergency."
Now this was serious. Wait! Why do I care?
'Because he is our mate, whether you like it or not.' My wolf grumbled.
"I'm sure he is fi...arrrgh!" I screamed and doubled over in pain, clutching my chest.
"Aurora? Are you okay?" Griffin rushed to hold me.
I shook my head, Unable to say anything. It felt like I was being pierced in the chest with a hot, sharp sword. The pain was unbearable, just like the pain of a mate rejection. Wait a minute! Was he trying to reject me? Then where is he?
'Our mate is in trouble!' My wolf screamed out urgently.
I gasped.
"Lucian...."
"Lucian? What are you saying, are you alright?"
I took a deep breath and struggled to face him.
"We have to go find Lucian, I think he is in trouble."
He frowned deeply, a look of confusion in his eyes.
"What do you mean he is in danger? How are you sure?"
"I don't know, my wolf felt it, we have to get to him fast."
He nodded quickly. "Okay, how do we find him?"
"Yes, good question. How do we find him?" I winced.
'I'll show you the way, just shift and run.' My wolf assured me.
"Just follow me, and shift." I finally told him.
He nodded, immediately I shifted, this time once again it was easy. I made to run but then I noticed he wasn't following me. I turned to see that he hadn't shifted, his mouth was hanging wide open as he stared at me in shock.
"You have a white wolf!"
It wasn't hard to locate him. My wolf helped me pinpoint his location. After running for close to ten minutes, Griffin and I finally stopped in front of a small cabin hidden deep in the woods. Its exterior was extremely dilapidated and needed a good fixing. Griffin shifted back to his human form and approached the house. I had to quickly avert my eyes.
"You stay here, I'll go check the place." He whispered.
I nodded a quick yes and waited until he had left, then I took a quick look around the place. As luck would have it, I found some clothes heaped haphazardly on a box, I quickly shifted and rummaged through it. Once I was dressed in a pair of baggy jeans and shirt, I rushed back in. I knew I shouldn't go in but my instincts were screaming at me to do just that. The place was dark and a bit larger than what it looked from the outside, it also had a very musty smell. I followed Griffin's scent to see him standing with a puzzled expression on his face.
"What are you doing?"
He glanced at me and raised an eyebrow in question.
"I found the clothes behind the house, wasn't going to come in naked."
"I see."
My eyes roamed the place, we were standing in the middle of a short corridor but there were no doors on either sides.
"What are we doing here?"
His eyes were narrowed in concentration as his nose twitched.
"I can scent Lucian here but strangely, I can't see anything. No doors, nothing."
I raised my nose to sniff, it was true. The strange but familiar woody smell of him wafted into my nose. My eyes flew open, I walked towards a side of the wall covered in butterfly murals. The walls felt hollow as I knocked on it.
"What are you doing?" Griffin asked, staring at me strangely.
"Can you knock down these walls?"
"Excuse me?"
Hiss!
I hissed in pain, clutching my chest again. I had almost forgotten about the pain, but as soon as I touched the wall, it came back in double folds. I glared at him through the pain and gritted my teeth.
"Will you please knock down the wall! He's here."
With a nod, he reared his fists back and punched the wall, a fist sized hole appeared. He continued punching until the wall collapsed revealing a dark passenger that led to a straight line.
"Let's go." I gasped, feeling my body moving towards a direction.
"Where are you going?" He called out
"I have no idea, just follow me." I snapped.
It wasn't long that we found a door slightly open, a woman's laugh was coming from there and I could hear the sound of a man groaning in pain. Griffin and I both looked at each other, realization in his eyes.
"Lucian!"
Quickly we ran in and halted in our steps. Griffin yelled out at the scene we saw in front us.
"Stop! What are you doing to him?"
A woman in a long robe turned to face us, her wide eyes showed how shock and surprised she was. Her lips trembled as she stared at both of us, as soon as her eyes landed on me, she glared at me with hate. I frowned, my nose wrinkling, do I know her, that wasn't important.
In front of the woman on the bed was a sweating, exhausted looking Lucian, he was gasping for pain and his chest was bleeding. Red hot anger suddenly rose in my chest, I glared at her.
"What did you do to him?"
"Nothing. I'm only trying to free him from the curse that is you" she replied casually.
"What?"
She sneered, her eyes dancing.
"I know you are his matebbut not for much longer. I have this..." She raised a strange looking wooden figurine covered in blood withh a knife imbedded in it. "...and I'm going to use it to cut off that bond."
"What the tell are you talking about....argh!"
I suddenly screamed out in pain just at the same time she moved the knife on the figurine.
"Aurora?"
I heard Lucian call my name weakly but I was too much in pain to look at him.
"Ha ha! You are feeling it right, the bond going away? Soon he will mine." She cackled.
I know I had wanted to break our mate bond, I never meant it to do this way.
"You crazy bitch!" Griffin growled and made to lunge at her but she backed away towards Lucian.
"You come closer and I kill him."
