Chapter 44 Blind Judgement
I stand up right away, and Idris hurries outside the hut, I follow him quickly. Which vampire? Kaizer?
My heart races when I recognize the vampire with red eyes, scanning the area. When she sees me, her eyes burn even more with anger.
“How dare you! You’re so bold! Remember, you’re just human! Just human!” Astrid shouts loudly at me as she steps closer.
Idris blocks me right away to protect me.
“Vampire, leave this place now. You’re on my territory,” Idris warns coldly.
I quickly hold Idris’s arm to stop him from doing anything to Astrid, whose eyes are still red.
“Don’t hurt her,” I say softly to Idris, shaking my head at him several times.
“What? Now you’re staying here? With these wolves? And after they feed you more lies, you’ll run away again? And accuse us of all sorts of things? You’re so stupid, Saera! So, so stupid! My brother loves you so much! But you threw him away for a few lies! Fuck! I want to hurt you so bad!”
I step back slightly from Astrid’s anger. But Idris makes sure he’s in front of me no matter what happens.
“Loves?! Come on, Astrid, you’ll use me to bring back the one he truly loves! Stop using me!” I shout back.
Cosette is the one Kaizer truly loves, if he loved me, he wouldn’t use me to bring back his past woman. What other reason would he have to bring Cosette back when I’m already here? I’d rather live alone as a vampire in my world than watch Kaizer and Cosette be together again.
“Use you?! Where did you get that idea? From those little bits of the past you saw? Did you see everything to judge Kaizer and our family?! Did you see everything to say those hurtful things to my brother?! Fuck! That idiot of a brother loves you so much. You didn’t see how we chained Kaizer up with our own eyes for years, he almost went crazy craving you! You weren’t there to hear him call your name every day while waiting for you to turn eighteen! You weren’t there to see him suffer while waiting for you! He’s so in love with you that he lets you do whatever you want in this world. But you? You didn’t even let my brother explain himself!”
Astrid’s eyes get even redder. I wouldn’t be surprised if poisonous smoke, her power, suddenly comes out of her to kill me. She could use it on me any time.
“Astrid…” I call her name softly.
“Oh shut the fuck up! Listen! Do you know why Kaizer got close to Cosette?! Not for the nonsense you think! Kaizer got close to Cosette because of you! Kaizer only went near Cosette because of you!”
My legs almost give out. What am I hearing now? How could it be because of me?
I can’t speak after what Astrid told me. I see tears in her eyes too, like she’s hurting from what’s happening.
“I’m not here as some stupid villain, Saera. I’m here as a sister, as family. I feel sorry for my brother, he waited for you for years. He suffered for years just to see you, but this is how you repay him. Why did you have to be the one bound to my brother?! You’re so narrow-minded, Saera. Don’t you know that vampires don’t take love lightly, especially a Lancaster? I want to kill you so bad, and I would if I could, Saera, but do you know what I’m afraid of? Kaizer would follow you to the afterlife without a second thought. That’s how crazy my brother is about you, but what did you do? You ruined him! And you even replaced him right in front of his eyes with a wolf?!”
I have no choice but to take all her words in. What is this again? Who should I believe now?
“I’m not here to bring you back to my brother. I’m here to show you how stupid you are! I want you to know how narrow-minded humans are! Human love is so weak, no wonder human relationships never last.”
I just let Astrid say whatever she wants to me. I can’t process all her words anymore.
What does she mean Kaizer got close to Cosette because of me?
“You’re so cru-”
She can’t finish speaking when Idris talks in a loud voice.
“Enough! I’ll give you one minute to get out of my sight,” Idris says coldly to Astrid, who doesn’t flinch.
“I’m just clearing my brother’s name. I don’t want you going back to your world thinking badly of him. We accepted you into our family because we all knew Kaizer would get better when you came, but it looks like we were wrong.”
I look down completely at what she says.
Kaizer’s words suddenly come back to me. Fuck. I said too much.
Even though it’s hard, I force myself to look Astrid in the eye.
“What do you mean Kaizer got close to Cosette because of me? Kaizer didn’t even know me when Cosette was still alive,” I ask Astrid nervously.
“Who told you that? That other stupid destined woman spouting things all over Igor? Go ahead and side with humans, humans who know nothing about this world.”
“I said enough!” Idris turns into a wolf right away and gets ready to attack Astrid, but the wolf who talked to him earlier blocks the way.
“I got this, Idris.”
I can’t speak to Astrid anymore when she’s suddenly thrown into the trees with the man named Soren.
I lose sight of Idris too, but I turn around quickly when I feel him dress fast behind me.
What is Astrid saying to me? I’m getting more confused. The things I said to Kaizer… Fuck.
“Are you okay? Don’t worry, Soren will take care of her.”
I snap out of my thoughts when Idris speaks.
“He can’t hurt her,” I whisper softly.
Even if Kaizer said hurtful things to me, my conscience can’t take it if something happens to him because of me.
My legs give out completely and I kneel on the ground. I said too much… I said so many things to Kaizer, so many things to my prince. Yes, I am so cruel…
“Saera…”
“I said those words, Idris…”
My hands shake as I stare at them, remembering that these hands slapped the prince who loves me so much.
Idris is about to touch me when we hear Astrid shout loudly.
“Oh fuck! I said don’t touch me! You stinky dog,” she says irritably to Soren, who’s holding her struggling arm tightly.
“What is this?” Idris asks, frowning.
Even I just stare blankly at Astrid’s shirt, which is slightly torn on her left chest. She has a mark from Soren. Don’t tell me…
“What the?”
Even Idris can’t believe it.
“Congratulations, Idris! You were right. I just found my mate, she’s that sweet scent I’ve been looking for. Holy fuck, she’s a vampire. I have a vampire mate,” Soren says, shaking his head.
“You are not my mate! You’re just a delusional wolf. I’m leaving this place, you all can stay here as useless fools.”
Soren doesn’t let go of her arms.
“Who are you? Saera, right?” Soren asks me, and I’m surprised.
“Idris, I think she needs to go. My mate is telling the truth, I saw her words were real the moment she bit me.”
I bury my face in my hands completely.
Fuck. I made a terrible mistake…
