Chapter 389: Hotel Disturbance, I Am Brandon's Good Friend!
Chapter 389: Hotel Disturbance, I Am Brandon's Good Friend!
Felix had worked tirelessly for his family and children his whole life, yet in his final days, they were still his greatest concern!
Looking at the medical records, Catherine felt heavy-hearted.
If he underwent surgery, there might be a chance to extend his life, but Felix couldn't accept a treatment plan that would leave him hooked up to tubes all over his body!
For him, being unable to remain conscious in his final moments and barely clinging to life in a daze was utterly unacceptable!
Gavin sighed, "I tried to convince him. If he went through with the surgery and stayed in the hospital for you to perform the operation, there'd still be a chance... But Mr. Howard won't have it!"
Catherine's heart ached!
Felix was simply worried that his hospitalization would dampen everyone's spirits and disrupt her and Alexander's wedding plans.
At a time like this, the Howard family should be filled with joy and laughter.
How could he bear to fall ill now?
"Grandpa's surgery only had a thirty percent success rate, and even then, he might be mentally unclear, sleep most of the day, and need constant care."
"Yes, Mr. Howard doesn't want to become like that!"
The proud, white-haired old man wanted to leave this world with dignity!
Catherine understood Felix's thinking.
Marcus called to ask about Felix's condition. After learning the details, there was a long silence on the other end.
After a while, Marcus let out a heavy sigh.
"At his age, it's a blessing. Don't be too sad."
"I'll be at the hospital observing these next few days. Grandpa, please take care of yourself too."
After all, they had been friends for half a lifetime—Marcus must have been deeply grieved too!
"I know what I'm doing."
Hanging up, Marcus sat motionless in his rocking chair, the chess piece in his hand never falling to the board.
He muttered to himself, "Felix, this game—I’ll let you take back one move. You have to come back!"
With his opponent gone, only a withered sycamore leaf remained on the empty seat.
At the Windsor Group hotel.
The hotel lobby was brilliantly lit and luxurious.
A woman in high heels and sunglasses walked into the hall, arm-in-arm with a man beside her, her face full of contempt!
"Where's your manager? Get your manager out here!"
The receptionist replied politely, "Our manager isn't in. How may I help you?"
"Then get Faye out here! She should have some authority at this hotel, right?"
Unsure what to do, the receptionist called Faye's extension and asked her to come down.
Arriving at the lobby, Faye looked at the woman before her in surprise. "Lyra? What's this about..."
The man beside Lyra had to be at least fifty years old.
And there was a child with them!
From the child's face—basically a copy of the middle-aged man—it wasn't hard to tell that he was the man's biological son.
Faye was still in shock!
These days, mistresses could bring their kids along in public?
Lyra removed her sunglasses, intimately holding the arm of the pot-bellied middle-aged man beside her.
"Darling, this is Faye, my good friend I told you about."
"What trash, thinking she's worthy of being your friend?"
The middle-aged man's gaze was full of lechery. "Pretty face though. If you say a few nice things, I might let you two catch up..."
Before his hand could land, a small knife flew out of nowhere and grazed the back of his hand, instantly leaving a bloody mark!
"Fuck!"
The man immediately cursed. The crisp sound of heels striking the floor rang out, carrying a hint of coldness.
Catherine's calm voice sounded, "Call the police."
The middle-aged man clutched the wound on his hand. "You want to call the police? I should be the one to call them! Do you know who I am? You dare attack me! In Imperia City, no one dares treat me like this!"
Catherine said coldly, "Well, congratulations. Now someone has."
The middle-aged man had been flattered by Lyra lately and had become quite arrogant!
He'd started believing his own lies, thinking he was some big tycoon that Imperia City's upper class had to tiptoe around!
Faye knew what Lyra was like - these two had probably been brainwashing each other about how rich they were...
They were both con artists—it was hard to say who was more pathetic!
Catherine was somewhat curious.
"Before causing trouble, didn't you check whose hotel this is?"
The Windsor Group's huge logo hung right at the entrance—anyone who wasn't blind would know this was a Windsor Group property!
The middle-aged man lifted his triple chin.
He said arrogantly, "I'm good friends with Brandon, the Windsor Group's boss. Can't I come to the Windsor family's hotel?"
Good friends with Brandon?
Catherine was puzzled. When did Brandon get a good friend she didn't know about?
Seeing Catherine's silence, the middle-aged man thought he'd intimidated her and snorted coldly.
"You're the hotel manager? I'll tell you what - I won't make this hard for you. Upgrade me to a VIP suite, compensate me three hundred thousand dollars, and I'll let this slide. Otherwise, if this gets to my buddy Brandon, you'll be sorry!"
"Young lady, it's not easy to work away from home. Three hundred thousand is just enough for a late-night snack for me—not much at all!"
Catherine was silent for a moment.
If it weren't for the people from the Galactic Aurora Collective coming to Imperia City and staying at Catherine's hotel, she wouldn't have come here.
She hadn't expected to encounter such an entertaining scene upon arrival...
"Pretty pathetic, actually—only three hundred thousand for extortion."
His appetite was even smaller than Oliver's.
Faye nodded along. "Exactly, Mr. Windsor. I'll call the police right now!"
Seeing they were still going to call the police, the middle-aged man's face twisted.
"Can't you understand plain English? Calling the police won't help you! I'm the victim here! Do you really want to go to jail?"
Faye said with disgust, "Our lobby has full surveillance coverage. You were harassing people just now, and you have no proof of who stabbed you. Maybe God couldn't stand it anymore and decided to teach you a lesson?"
The middle-aged man was startled!
Indeed, no one had seen clearly where that knife came from!
"Don't think you can threaten me like this. I'm calling Brandon right now. We'll see who's begging for mercy soon!"
Catherine's gaze was extremely cold.
"Go ahead and call."
Lyra immediately pressed against the middle-aged man. 'Mr. Vaughan, aren't you close brothers with Director Shen? Have him stand up for you!"
Faye looked at Lyra like she was looking at an idiot.
She knew Brandon was Catherine's dad - how could she still encourage this Rex guy to call Brandon?
Faye didn't know that Rex had made his fortune through pyramid schemes.
Lyra had completely bought into the idea that Rex was a wealthy member of high society, even more powerful than the Windsor family!
Seeing Catherine's calm expression, Rex snorted coldly.
"I'm really going to call! You can still apologize now—there's still time!"
Catherine moved her fingers, and immediately someone brought a chair and coffee.
"Call. Call as many people as you want. If you don't call, I will."
