Chapter 28 Chapter 28.
Bella's POV
"Yes, Lady Bella. You, my friend, are not the first Luna of the pack." She answered back merrily.
Suddenly, Alpha Jacob pushed the door to my room wide open as he ambled confidently with his ripped six-pack glistening like oil was massaged all over him without a shirt on as he looked like he was just returning from a night out in the woods of Romania because his body was partially covered with dirt and mud.
"Alpha Jacob, when did you get back?" Samantha jerked up attentively like a cheerleader caught doing something wrong. She fumbled to pose seductively to try and catch Jacob's attention but she was too late because he quickly walked past her sight straight to me.
"Good morning Bella. How are you feeling today?" He sat next to me.
"Good morning Alpha. I'm feeling much better thank you." My eyes hooded as I peeked at him sadly.
Why did he accept me if he is still in love with his former mate Avery? I avoided his face as I glanced at my fingers.
"I'm glad to hear that you are better. But what were you doing at the devil's pond?" He clutched my hands lovingly. "Don't you know it's very dangerous to stray in the woods at night alone?" He made an effort to lift my chin up, but I declined to change positions of my head to face him.
Why is he acting as if he cares? His behaviour reminded me of Alpha Zach and I know it was wrong for me to compare him to that devil but he too was becoming a hypocrite and I was slowly losing interest in him as my mate. Besides, why would I beg to be an Alpha's mate when I was once rejected indirectly? I pulled a face discreetly while peeking at Samantha who pouted her lips with her hands on her hips.
What is her deal? I raised an eyebrow.
"Bella, did you hear what I asked?" Jacob's words stuttered me out of my thoughts as my body quivered…but before I could answer his question, Samantha interfered in our conversation.
"That's my thought exactly Alpha. What would a sane person be doing at the pond at night alone." She seductively sauntered to us…maybe because she wanted Jacob to notice her in the room? I don't know but she was beginning to irritate the shit out of me.
Why is she still here anyway? Because Alpha Jacob is clearly not interested in her and what she had to say.
She got closer to us and placed her hand on Jacob's shoulder like she was trying to send a message.
Smh, you can have him if you like. I made an effort to get out of bed but I stopped myself after I realized that I was unclothed.
What the fuck? Why am I naked and were are my clothes? My stomach flipped with crimson cheeks.
"Samantha, thank you for coming but can you please excuse us? I would like to speak to Luna Bella alone." Jacob's authoritative voice sent a delicious shiver down my spine while my inner wolf found it very amusing that he chased her like she did not matter in the room, which she didn't. He pushed her hand off his shoulder without even glancing at the poor desperate girl.
I scoffed internally.
I know her type. She was crystal's type hence the best medicine for her was me ignoring her fake ass.
"Are you sure you want me to leave? I don't have anything to do. Besides I came to see our Luna after the death scare" Samantha fidgeted with her hands, while lovingly gaping at Alpha Jacob, and any fool in the room could read her face and tell how much she was head over heels in love with him.
I rolled my eyes while snatching the bed sheet to cover my almost exposed breasts.
"Excuse us now, Beta Samantha." Jacob increased the pitch in his deep alluring voice.
Both I and Samantha shuddered at his voice as she immediately bowed her head and stamped out like a toddler who has been refused to play with its favourite toy.
Okay, she has issues. I frowned but was glad she was gone.
"Now tell me, what were you doing at the pond last night?" He raised a question while he moved closer to me with his body positioned toward me. He looked at me with unblinking focused eye contact.
I swallowed hard while I evaded his hot stare. Why is he looking at me like that???
"Nothing Alpha, I was just taking a walk and I came upon the pond and decided to sit there for a while," I spoke hesitantly.
"But why would you do that if you can't swim?" He further questioned with one raised eyebrow.
"Yes, Alpha. I don't know how to swim, besides I was not thinking of jumping into the wolfsbane water, put up a sign that says SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK, WATER CONTAINS WOLFSBANE." I said in a muffled voice still evading his stare.
He chuckled historically, then raised my chin to face him.
"But how did you find yourself in the water if you can't swim?"
I glanced at him while gasping for air. "Someone was watching me and decided to push me into the pond." I blurted out loud with steady eye contact.
His grin faded away as soon as he heard that someone pushed me with a sad faraway look on his face.
Did this mean he knew who did it and why?
"Alpha, do you know who pushed me?"
"No, but I will find out who did it." He leaned in as though he wanted to kiss me but instead, he tensed and pushed back tiny bits of my hair hanging loosely in front of my face at the back of my ear.
My heart skipped a beat with butterflies in my stomach.
I don't get this man. One minute he is showing me affection, the next he is cold as ice.
