Bella's POV.
Talking in my mind, I felt like my body sank deep down into an abyss without anyone else in sight…
Pa, please help me!
Pa's faint image floated past me hurriedly without glancing at me while I stretched out my hand to try and get hold of his.
Pa… don't leave me alone. A tear trickled down my cheek.
Then suddenly, Alpha Jacob's faint image came straight to me and gently clasped my hand.
'I'm here Bella.'
Alpha Jacob? Why are you here? A spontaneous smile radiated on my face.
With my body stiffened up, I was unable to feel my limbs, I tightened up with my lungs filled up with water until I woke up to the blinding lights seeping through the white curtains in my room.
"Jacob!"
His name slipped out of my lips as I tried to make out my surroundings because the last thing I remembered was plunging down to the depth of the excruciating water of the pond. My skin burned with tremendous pain, I peeked at my arm, and it was fine...I sighed a sigh of relief.
Thank the goddess that was just a dream, or was it?
"Hey, lady Bella."
A curvalicious red-haired attractive woman sat next to me on my bed whilst inspecting my body for goddess knows what?
My body shuddered with a frown as I yanked my hand out of her grip.
Who are you? I glared questionably.
"I mean no harm, lady Bella. My name is Beta Samantha and I'm a good friend of Alpha Jacob." She oozed pride, and confidence in her posture and intonation of every word spoken by her.
"Okay, but how do you know my name? What happened to me? And how did I get back to the mansion?" I gently jerked up from the bed and sat with a confused mug while my unending questions needed answers from Alpha Jacob and not this pretty stranger. I scoffed internally.
"Oh please, everyone in the village is talking about the new Luna of the midnight pack and how pretty she is. So I wanted to see for myself what the fuss was all about." Samantha skimmed through me like she was not impressed with what she saw.
"But there is nothing special about me. So why would everyone be talking about me?" I fidgeted to get comfortable in my own bed because Samantha or whatever she called herself gave me an odd feeling like crystal did whenever she would want to taunt me.
"Oh dearly, there are a lot of things being said about you, but I will spare you the trouble and keep them to myself for now." She answered sarcastically with a smirk.
What things is she talking about? I narrowed my eyes with a perplexed look. Is the life of torment back to me in this village too? No Bella, you are Luna, so no one can ever talk bad about you. I calmed my thoughts.
"I don't need to hear what is being said about me from a Beta because I'm the Luna of the pack. Now get out of my room." My voice cracked due to my high-pitched tone. I swallowed hard with my chin held high, because I wanted to intimidate her…but I was wrong because Beta Samantha did not budge from her spot.
"Haha," she slowly but loudly clapped her hands thrice with a splitting grin across her face. "The second Luna has some guts I might say." Her sarcastic voice sent a cold shiver down my spine, but I was not going to allow her to sense my fear for her…but wait a minute, did she just say second Luna? No, my ears heard wrong. I frowned at her quizzically.
"Now you listen to me girly, the midnight pack will eat and chew a timid girl like you as Luna, so I will save you your time and tell you that Alpha Jacob will never mark a girl like you because his love for Avery will never be restored by you." She sneered with a reddened face. "Besides, I can clearly see that you have not yet been marked by him." She rolled her eyes and pulled a face.
Avery? Is she the reason he has been so distant from me? But who is she and where is she? My thoughts lingered as I now wanted to know more about what she was talking about. I leaned in with unblinking focused eye contact.
"Umh, Samantha you said… Who is Avery and what do you mean I'm a second Luna?" My heart raced wildly non-stop.
Samantha, instead curled her lips on the corner of her lips and got up from the bed without saying anything, and sauntered straight to the window near the bed. She peeked outside momentarily before veering around to face me.
Samantha unraveled a pink leather mini dress that hugged her beautiful hourglass figure with colorful high platforms covering her feet. Her red hair was tied up in a high silk ponytail which revealed her poorly drawn fake eyebrows with her tan.
This woman needs to lay off the tanning bed. My wolf chuckled internally.
"Avery! My dear girl was once the precious Luna of the midnight pack before her life was cut short by unknown people like what almost happened to you last night at the pond." She heaved a sigh with a bright crimson smile.
What, this explains everything. My stomach plunged into my guts with a sad faraway look on my face.
Moon goddess, why would you bring me to another hell hole?
Tears formed in the corner of my eyes before I could summon the courage to speak up. "So I'm not the first Luna of the pack?" my voice stuttered faintly.
