Bella's POV.
It's been two long days since the elders happily welcomed me into the pack without any hideousness, and I had not seen Alpha Jacob since that fateful day.
What's wrong with this man? He accepted me as his Luna and now he doesn't want to spend time with me?
"Let's see if he will avoid me now." I glanced at myself in the huge mirror against the wall of my walk-in closet which was filled up with anything designer. Clothing, shoes, jewelry, and bags… anything I wanted to get the day I went out shopping with omega Zoey was fully paid for by the Alpha who avoided me…I sighed merrily with a cocky smirk curled on the corner of my lips.
Covered in a white silky knee-length robe and only pink laced panties barefoot with my dark brunette hair hanging loosely on my shoulders, I was on a mission to seduce my Alpha to mark me because he was taking longer than expected…and I did not seem to know the answer to the question I kept asking myself.
Doesn't the mate bond pull him? Because mine surely cried out to its mate, and it was becoming intolerable to contain within myself and my wolf as it desired to be honored so badly.
I stretched out the tiny wrinkles on the robe with my head slightly tilted to one side before heading out of the room into the hallway where I immediately bumped into Gamma Nick.
"Hey Gamma Nick, have you seen the Alpha?"
"No, lady…" he stopped himself with a tight-lipped smile." I meant to say, no Bella. I have not seen him. But I'm sure he is not far from home." He reassured with a slight grin on his face… he carried a sliver briefcase like the one Jacob tossed to pa and Diana.
I wonder what could be in there??? But I'm sure it is more money. I quickly brushed off that thought from my mind without hesitation.
"Oh, okay" I answered back in a low voice with a faraway look on my face.
But where could he be this late at night? if he did not tell his trusted house manager. I could not help but wonder where he had gone to…
"May I be excused?" Nick's voice projected out which caused my eyes to flicker out of thought.
"Yes please, you may proceed with whatever you are doing," I spoke rapidly with sweaty palms. I rubbed them against my robe before peeking out to exist.
Maybe, I should take a walk in the stunning starlight, which might take away this lonely feeling.
Yes. I will do just that.
"Enjoy the rest of your evening." Gamma Nick bobbed his head once and strolled past me…
"Thank you." I let out a tight-lipped smile before strolling away to the unknown hidden spots in the midnight pack.
Minutes later...
Why is he avoiding me? But why he looked like he was into me that day? I sighed heavily while throwing small pebbles into a nearby pond I had stumbled upon, in a secluded area of the boundaries of the village when I was roaming the outskirt town.
Moon goddess, is this the happily ever after you brought me to? My thoughts lingered in the humid summer days, which seemed to melt into even more humid nights with air so thick, it pressed upon one's skin.
Hundreds of fireflies all aglow lifted so slowly, it seemed they too struggled against the weight of moisture hanging heavily in the night air. I sat half-dressed on the edge of the pond with nothing but pink panties, dripping sweat from condensation while listening to nothing but bullfrogs call to their mate…
How I wish, I too could call my mate like that.
The sounds of it were so loud, it reminded me of loose strings on a banjo in Beta Lloyd's music class back home in the moonstone pack. A slight smile radiated on my face.
Thank you, goddess, this place is beautiful, even if my mate keeps avoiding me. I sighed softly as the smile vanished on my face.
Suddenly, a sweet husky pungent smell surrounded me, and it was definitely not my mate's scent.
Who could it be? I veered around to catch a glimpse of the individual or individuals watching me.
"Hello, is anybody there?" My eyes widened with my heart thumping wildly.
I got up while wrapping my breast with my hands as I continued looking around the pond, whose mood had completely changed to a more eerie scene.
"Whoever you are, I command you to show yourself now." My lips trembled with fear as quick footsteps thudded heavily all around me, causing me to shiver with panic.
I stumbled recklessly on the ridge of the pond before returning my balance. "As the Luna of the midnight pack, I command whoever is out there to show themselves immediately." My voice stuttered while I gave notice to loud snarls and growls. A rush of fear ran over me, I snatched the white silky robe and quickly wrapped it around myself, because I was ready to bolt out of that place even without finding out who was stocking me.
"Your scent is so inviting Luna." A loud manly snarl projected from the dark scrubs causing my legs to turn to jelly.
Oh shit, how will I run away from here? All my senses of direction left me, rendering me helpless as my body froze, paralyzed with fear.
I cringed my eyes shut. Dear moon goddess, I know I ask for a lot of favors from you, but please save me this one last time, suddenly, something or someone roughly shoved me from behind causing me to plunge into the deep end of the pond with a loud scream and splash of the water.
I went underwater momentarily before my skin started to feel bizarre burning tingles all over…
Is this water filled with wolfsbane? I resurfaced above the water with a loud cry for help because as much as sat next to the pond, I was not thinking of jumping in it because I could not swim.
Yes, I Bella Wood, did not know how to swim. No one ever showed interest to teach me some of these things when I was growing up.
"Help!!!"
I sank under the water once again, ingesting a mouthful of the poisoned water.
"Help!!!"
I resurfaced with my head spinning with many thoughts while I splashed the water with my hands.
Is this the end of me?
What happens to my Alpha Jacob?
Papa will be heartbroken when he hears about my tragic death…
"Help!!"
My voice became faint as I finally gave up on the struggle to survive and allowed myself to die a painless death.
Sinking deeper into the abyss of the pond, the eighteenth years of my life flashed before my eyes while the light of the surface distanced away from my sight...but before I closed my eyes, I saw a huge male shadow wavering on the ledge.
That must be the person who pushed me. But who could it be?
"Alpha, please help me…" my lips slightly opened up as I gulped even more wolfsbane water into my body and my body jerked vigorously as the last final moments of my life seemed so short-lived.
Is this the end?
