Chapter 25 Chapter 25.
Alpha Jacob's POV.
It's been two days since I returned back to the mansion because I could not keep myself away from preying lustily on my new beautiful mate Bella wood but I felt it was wrong to cheat on my beloved departed Avery.
"I'm sorry Avery, but you know how much I can't help my wolf yearn for its second chance mate. It's impossible to keep myself away from her." Long lonely howls escaped my lips while I circled the burial site of my former mate Avery.
I felt very guilty about my and Bella's mate bond clicking in. But as said, this was both our second chance fated mate hence we had no choice but to accept the goddess's will.
What shall I do to avoid her? This is not the life I had planned out for myself… I howled in mourning when suddenly my ears gave attention to Bella's cry for assistance a few miles away from where I was standing.
Bella??? I tensed while I gave attention to her voice.
But what is she doing outside the mansion near me this late? Was she out looking for me?
Unwilling to stay still or be peaceful and calm, I howled out loud signaling my Betas to come where I was headed.
Bella, I'm coming…
My eyes began to change from their typical colour to an insane red fiery glow, I howled in pleasure because I enjoyed being in my wolf more than my human fork... My knees reversed direction and the bones within me shifted inside me. My face contorted as the lone wolf's muzzle extended out in front of me while my body tripled in size.
A loud howl projected out as my body finally morphed into its pitch-black badass wolf.
I huffed and puffed while I glanced in the direction Bella's scent and voice came from…my paws immediately thudded heavily on the ground as my loud snarls echoed all around me while I ran to her.
Bella is in trouble and I need to save her... that was all that was running through my thoughts.
Her loud cries grew faint as got closer to her.
Please, moon goddess, keep my second chance mate safe… my thoughts lingered as Bella's scent vanished into thin air as soon as I got to the pond. I glanced around the devil's pond as we called it because it is one of the deepest ponds in Romania.
I peeked around and gave attention to a shadow and footsteps jogging away from the scene.
Who is that? My eyes made an effort to zoom in to get a better view but whatever that shadow was, was very quick and evaded my sight.
Ah, fuck it. I need to find my Bella first...I ignored the shadow moving further away from the pond.
I sniffed around to try to catch Bella's vanished scent, but it had gone away with the wind…the only thing I saw was a white silky robe laying on the ledge of the pond. I walked closer to it and noticed her scent grow stronger.
This is Bella's robe, but where is she? I shifted back into my human fork to investigate more…and that's when I noticed the normal still waters of the pond had bubbles popping out with tiny ripples.
I arched my back to get a better view of the water and I could see a fragment of a person plunging deeper into the abyss…
"Bella! I'm coming to save you, my love..."
Without thinking twice about my next move, I took a good deep breath of oxygen and jumped into the clear water, diving deeper into the water, my skin and eyes started scorching badly…and I knew what was doing it…WOLFSBANE.
Someone must have poisoned the water, but who could have done such a bad thing? I cringed my eyes shut while I attempted to lessen the burning sensation, but it did not help as the poison had already penetrated them.
I slightly opened my eyes as I tried to spot Bella's descending body, and the wolfsbane scorched me and my eyes to my core... but that encouraged me to quickly search for her and get her out of there immediately.
Where are you? I wavered in the same spot looking for her body which was nowhere in sight…I veered around while struggling to breathe as my weight force pulled me down and that's when I caught a glimpse of a cloud below and followed it.
I reached it and knew it was her plunging deeply into the water. Without hesitation, I clutched her hand tightly and swam towards the light above the water…I got her out and her frill lifeless body looked bad as her skin was burned off her flesh due to the wolfsbane.
I rubbed the poison out of my eyes and my slightly burnt skin instantly healed up quickly.
"Bella!" I gently rubbed the water off the flesh on her face to diminish the scarring.
Leaning in toward her nose, I positioned my ear next to her mouth and tried to give attention to her if she was still breathing, but no her body frozen sluggishly said otherwise.
"Bella, please wake up." I shook her energetically to try and get a response from her but nothing. She was dead and there was little to nothing I could do at that moment.
Moon goddess, please don't take away my second mate from me…I promise to love and protect her if you spare her life this once. I cringed my eyes shut with a tear twinkling down my cheek, hoping that the goddess could hear my cry for help in that dreadful moment…but nothing, Bella's once warm body, became cold to touch.
Please, goddess, spare her and take my life instead if you so wish…I sobbed loudly when I glanced at Bella's lifeless body.
My Betas came to me surrounding the area as they watched in silence.
"Goddess please don't take her away," I screamed painfully while clasping her lifeless body in my arms…I shut my eyes as I could not stand to see my second chance mate die in my arms as Avery did.
