Chapter 34 The Ritual Chamber

Chapter 34 The Ritual Chamber
POV: Aria

The moment we enter the chamber, I understand what we're walking into.

Dozens of wolves hang suspended in the air. Not wolves anymore really. Just empty shells. Their bodies glow faintly as something is being pulled from them. Their consciousness. Their essence. Everything that makes them who they are is flowing upward like water being sucked into a drain.

And all of it is flowing toward him.

Matthias stands in the center of the ritual circle. His body crackles with dark power. Black and purple lightning wraps around him. He's absorbed so much essence that he barely looks human anymore. His eyes are solid black. His skin glows with stolen power.

When he sees us, he smiles.

Lyanna is bound beside him. Conscious. Aware. Her eyes meet mine for just a moment and I see it all. The fear. The guilt. The knowledge that she's part of this and she couldn't stop it.

But Matthias is already moving.

His hands rise and dark magic explodes outward like a bomb. It's not controlled. Not directed at a specific target. It's everything he has, unleashed all at once.

Fenris screams my name and throws his body in front of me.

The blast hits him full force. His body lifts off the ground and flies backward so hard his back cracks against the stone wall. He slides down leaving a trail of blood. When he lands, he doesn't move.

The pain hits me next. The dark magic wraps around my body like tentacles made of fire. I throw up my shield of blue light but it's not enough. The dark magic is stronger than anything the Council has ever thrown at me before.

This is power born from dozens of drained essences. Power that shouldn't be possible.

But then Kael surges forward.

His consciousness rises up inside mine like a storm. Rage. Ancient rage that's been waiting five years to explode. The rage of a king who was poisoned. Of an Alpha whose people were hunted. Of a lover who watched everything he cared about destroyed.

He took everything from me, he snarls through our connection. Let me burn him

I could say no. I could try to maintain control. But there's no point in that anymore.

Together, I say. Not alone

I let him come forward. I don't fight him. I invite him. The merging happens completely this time. Not partial. Not him staying separate inside me. We become one consciousness using one body.

The world shifts.

Everything becomes sharper and older and more powerful all at once. I can feel centuries of his knowledge. His magic. His purpose. His love. It all pours into me like I'm a vessel being filled to overflowing.

Our consciousness spirals together. His ancient strength. My human determination. His experience. My refusal to accept loss.

Aria's body transforms.

I don't know where I end and he begins anymore. The distinction doesn't matter. We are one being now. One will. One purpose.

Golden light explodes outward from me. Not the blue I usually manifest. Not his ancient gold. Both at once. Spiraling together. Dancing around each other. Creating something that's neither of us alone but both of us together.

The dark magic washes over me and shatters.

Matthias's attack breaks against our combined power like waves against stone. His magic can't touch us. His stolen essences can't compare to what we've become.

The golden and blue light spreads through the chamber. It touches the suspended wolves and they scream. Not in pain. In relief. Their consciousnesses are being freed. The dark magic that was draining them shatters like glass.

The stone walls crack.

Not in one place. All around the chamber. Massive cracks spreading like spiderwebs across every surface. The power we're generating is too much for the physical structure to contain.

The ritual chamber is falling apart.

Matthias steps back. For the first time, fear touches his ancient face. He's never seen a True Keeper fully bonded with an Alpha King. Never seen what happens when two ancient powers merge completely.

Never understood that love is stronger than stolen essence.

The walls shake. Dust falls from the ceiling. The magical bindings holding the suspended wolves shatter one by one. They drop to the ground, free. Conscious again. Themselves again.

Lyanna lies on the stone, tears streaming down her face as she watches what I've become.

She sees her sister transformed into something beyond human. Something that's both one person and two at once. Something that ancient magic and human will have created together.

And she understands that she's been on the wrong side of this story the entire time.
