Chapter seventeen

17; Maxine

Billie stood up slowly and glared at me. “What did you do to me?”

I shrugged. “Nothing not necessary,” I grabbed the bag of blood and pushed it towards her. “Take it.”

She hurriedly took it and was about to place it on her mouth before she stopped and glanced at it. It was as though she had found out what it was.

“Is this…is this….”her voice broke as she spoke and my heart broke at the sight.

“Blood, its blood,” my roommate said without an ounce of sympathy, it was as though it was normal and I shot him a glare

He shrugged. “What? It’s normal. She had to get used to it, the earlier the better. It’s going to be her meal from now on.”

“Blood?” She gasped, horrified and I moved to hold her but she moved away from us.

“Look, Billie, you’re a vampire now. Something terrible happened to you. You’re now a vampire and…”

“What!” She gasped.

“You have to take it if you want to live, in hours, you’re going to dissipate,” he said and I turned to him, clenching my hands into fists.

“What the hell! Couldn’t you be more..” I tried to speak but he interrupted me.

“What? Subtle?” He scoffed. “If you want to save her, then find a way to unmake a vampire.”

Okay, enough! I’ve had enough of his shenanigans.

“Yea! I’d find a way to do that and I’m going to unmake you first!”

He chuckled as he walked to his own side of the room, leaving me with a raging vampire.

How the hell was I supposed to handle her. Abd jusging from the way she kept looking at me, she wasn’t fond of me.

She was totally different from the Billie I had met that night at the bar.

She seemed to be murmuring to herself and I knew that it was the disbelief of it all.

She had just been thrown into a world she didn’t ask for.

“Let me die,” she said as tears streamed down from her face. “I just…I can’t live like a monster,” she stared at the blood with disgust, but her eyes never left it and I could see the hunger in her eyes.

“Are you also a vampire?”

I shook my head. How was I to tell her that I was quite the opposite, that I hated vampires and would gladly take them out.

But there were good vampires, vampires like Xander.

“I’m a wi…a siphoner. It’s almost like a witch, but not quite.”

She nodded slowly. “Is he a witch as well?”

I knew that she was talking about my roommate, but I shook my head. “He’s a vampire.” And a really evil, scary one.”

“Are vampires like everything in the books and movies?” She asked and I studied a laugh. She wanted to know if she could live Long and if she couldn’t go out in the sunlight.

“I’m not really sure about that. Do you remember what happened?”

She shook her head. “I remember going to the bar and having a drink, then I got a call and…I was in a strange house…I …”

I gasped as the realization dawned on me. Whoever had turned her wouldn’t be so dumb to let her know. She had been compelled to forget the face.

“I think you’ve been compelled,” I announced abd she furrowed her brows.

“Compelled? What is that?”

I sighed, not knowing how to explain it to her. “Well…it’s something vampires do…making someone t forget an event, a memory or anything…”

“Can I do that?” She asked, her voice laced with innocence and I shook my head.

Turned vampires were the lowest set of vampires, they were the ones with only minor vampire abilities, making them often dependent on either originals or born vampires.

She grabbed the blood bag and in an instant, the bag was empty.

Seeing residuals of bood at the corner of her mouth made me think again how Inhumane they were.

“I feel much better now. How do you like your new self?”

She shrugged. “It feels different. I can hear everything, I don’t need my lenses anymore and my nose…it’s like everyone is talking all at once. It’s chaotic, I can hear your heartbeat.”

I nodded, this was her life now, but she didn’t need to be bad.

I’ll introduce her to Xander and he could introduce her to his own diet, animal blood.

According to him, the last time he took human blood was years ago.

It showed how he was trying to seem human and I decided that although my mission was to find Derek, I was going to give myself another one, finding the grimoire of Agatha Santos, the witch who created the first vampire.

The way to unmake them had to be in there. Vampires weren’t all bad, they were only just a victim of circumstance.

“Will you be okay on your own?” I asked, reffering to the fact that she would be in the midst of humans and the urge was going to be even higher.

She shrugged. “I think so…”

“No!”

I turned around to see that my roommate had left his bed and was now standing between us.

I had a feeling that he hadn’t been asleep. “She’s new, she needs training or she’s going to go on a killing rampage.”

She shook her head. “What are you saying? Killing rampage? I wouldn’t do such a thing! I know how to control my thirst…”

“Regardless, you need someone to guide you.”

That was where I knew that I had to step in. “Oh, and you think you can guide her? Dude, I know someone else who can guide her.”

He seemed amused by that fact. “You know another vampire?”

I nodded. I’m surprised that you don’t know how many other supernaturals are in this school. Anyways…you’re right, I don’t think it’s right to let her go alone. She’ll spend the night here and tomorrow, she’s going to meet Xander, let me call him…”

“Did you just say Xander?” He asked, his expression changing from being amused to sonething between fear and concern.

“Yea, Xander Sokolov, you know him?” I watched for anything that would let me know if he was telling the truth.

Vampires were the most sun organized and scattered supernatural. Werewolves had their packs, witches had covens, but vampires had nothing, no single unification or brotherhood and that made them dabgerous.

“You know, I don’t know your name, perhaps if I tell him about you, he’ll know who you are.”

His eyes darted around the room as though he was looking for something.

“Look here, witch, I don’t really care about your business, but I’m going to give you a warning. And for your own good, you better take it. Stay away from Xander.”

I scoffed. I could feel Billie’s eyes on us, but I said nothing. I had now known that exchanging words with him was a waste of my time.

“I’m serious, you have to stay away from him. It’s dangerous…”

I nodded. “Sure, sure.”

“Look, you can take my bed, I’ll teach you how overcome thirst for human blood…”

I scoffed. “Have you tried overcoming your own thirst for human blood? Come on!”

He seemed offended by that. “Well, thanks to someone who spoilt the only decent meals I was supposed to have, I’ve had no licks with animals, just rabbits.”

I chuckled at that. He was trying to tell me that he fed regularly on animal blood.

He must’ve looked at me like a fool.

“Don’t worry, Max, he’s been much help to me this evening, I think I’d be more happier if he was any teacher,” Billie cut in before either of us could say more.

Billie went to his bed and laid there while he threw some blankets down and laid on them. I’m a matter of seconds, his eyes was closed.

With his eyes closed, I had a good look at him and I wouldn’t lie, he was handsome. His lips were pressed together, making it seem as though even in his sleep, he was angry.

Suddenly, he didn’t seek like such a scary person and I wondered if I was mistaken about him.

His full lips seemed inviting and I blinked rapidly, pushing that thought away. What the hell!

He was a vampire

“Why are you staring at?” I heard his voice first before his eyes snapped open, locking into mine.

I swallowed hard and cleared my throat.

“Well…uhm…you see…” I mentally slapped myseif for acting like an idiot. “I’m Max.”

“I know your name,” he said as he stood up and in an instant was mere inches away from my face

I had forgotten to set up another barrier.

“I don’t know yours,” I said quickly, wondering if he was even going to hear what I had said.

“Caden,” he said, his breath, fanning on my neck. “Caden Sokolov.”
