Chapter sixteen

16; Maxine

“Well?” He narrowed his eyes at me and I let out a deep breath.

What was I going to do? It wasn’t like u had done it before

“She’s going to be awake soon, witch. Do your thing!”

I gritted my teeth in irritation. “I’m a siphoner, not a witch!” I half yelled.

He shrugged. “No difference. Siphoner, witch. Y'all just sneaky little creatures. Just do your thing and I’ll be here watching. Or you can’t?”

I chuckled nervously. “Says who?” I turned around as though I was looking for something, but I was praying inwardly for something, anything…a miracle. “Let me just check my grimoire, there has to be something here…”

“Right,” he replied with a smile and out his hand forward. “Go ahead.”

I flipped through my grimoire, hoping that it would have something, but who was I kidding, she was now a vampire and there was nothing I could do about that!

She was now an undead. An abomination.

I shut the book and dropped it back on the table with a loud thud. “I can’t do anything,” I half whispered as I shook my head. “She’s a vampire.”

He chuckled lightly and I could swear that I saw a tinge of disappointment in his eyes.

But why?

Wasn’t he happy that there was another vampire?

“Pathetic,” he said as he walked to his closet. “Keep an eye on her. Don’t let her wander off on her own,” he walked to the door and I furrowed my brows.

“Why? Where are you going to?” I glanced at her crumpled form on his bed.

“To find food,” he said casually. “She’s going to be extremely hungry when she wakes up and I’m telling you this so you can protect yourseif, you might be a witch or siphoner or whatnot, but your blood will still be tasty to a new vampire.”

I nodded, realizing what he meant. She had to take blood to survive or risk dying of hunger.

“Well, have fun doing that,” I said, mentally face palming myseif for acting like an idiot.

I watched him walk away and turned to Billie who was starting to stir now. She should be awake anytime now.

I flipped through my grimoire, hoping to find something that could help me, but there was no much luck. There was nothing on how to unmake a vampire.

I thought about the one I would love to unmake if I had the ability.

Of course, my friend, Xander.

Xander.

Xander had been with her, but he wouldn’t…right? He wouldn’t just turn he. He was a good person.

I had no idea if that was what I convinced myself to believe or if it was true.

Was Xander really a good person or was I just being played?

“Where am I?”

I turned around immediately to see that she was awake and was sitting up on the bed.

I raised my hands, nervous and scared at the same time as I thought about what my roommate had said. Would she really try to attack me?

I grabbed a vial of vervain. She was a good person, but if the worst comes to the worst, I had to protect myseif.

I had to make peace with the fact that the kind hearted and smiling Billie I had seen that night was gone and in her place was now a monster.

“I’m thirsty.” She stumbled to get on her feet. Her eyes darted around till they landed on me.

“Stop! Don’t come close!” I screamed at her.

She seemed confused abd disoriented, her face pale and her lips blue.

“Where am I?”

“You’re in my dorm room, Billie. Something happened to you. Something terrible.”

Her frown deepened. “What happened? What did you do to me? Wait, I know you! You’re the boy from the bar. Did you kidnap me?”

I shook my head rapidly as she kept walking towards me. “No, stay back. I didn’t kidnap you, Billie. This is all a misunderstanding, a huge one. Something bad happened to you.”

“You!” She lunged forward at me and I moved away. She winced.

I took notes of hee physical transition so far. It seems her body already activated hyper speed, but that action alone had made her weak, probably because she hadn't fed yet.

I only had a few seconds before she totally rip my head off. Hopefully, my roommate is back before then.

“Calm down and let’s talk this out, Billie. I’m trying to help you here.”

But she was far too gone to care and I didn’t blame her. The appetite of a vampire and the fsct that she was terrified about how she was currently feeling.

“Trust me, Billie, look, I know how you’re currently feeling. You must be really hungry and thirsty. You don’t know how to explain it, but I know, I can help you.”

She bared her fangs as she lunged towards me, pushing me down and I knew that I had to act far it I didn't want her to sink her teeth into my flesh, drawing blood.

I grabbed the vial of vervain, knowing that it was going to be too much for her since she was still an unfed vampire, I placed a little on her forehead and she screamed as she moved away from me.

That seemed to do the trick as she laid weak on the ground, writhing in pain.

“I’m sorry, Billie, I can’t let you hurt me,” I said as I glanced at her unmoving body that laid on the ground.

She made to speak, but the vervain had made her so weak that she couldn’t even speak.

That was when my phone decided to ring, stopping me from saying what I wanted to say.

I glanced at the caller ID to see that it was my mother and I frowned.

Why would my mother call me so early in the morning.

“Mother…”

“Maxine!! What is wrong with with you!” She yelled from the other end of the line and I winced as I moved the phone from my ear as the sound was too harsh.

“Owww, mum, what!”

“What? How dare you ask me that? Your roommate is a Vampire? Your roommate is a vampire? What are you doing Max!” She yelled again and I gritted my teeth and clenched my fist as I thought about Henry.

That two faced lying son of a bitch!

Why did I let him find out? I should’ve denied until the very end? I’ve been too careless!

He promised that he wouldn’t say a thing to her or anyone.

“Mum, I can take care of myself, you don’t have to worry, my roommate is….”

“And you’re walking around with another vampire! What if someone from the coven sees you? Maxine you’re the leader of this coven! You have to solidify your leadership!”

“Mother, I don’t know why Henry told you this…” that big mouthed Henry.

“I’m so glad he did! You have to leave there right now. First thing tomorrow, I’m going to have you taken out if there! I can’t have you being in the sane space with a vampire!”

I rubbed my temples, this was the exact reason I didn’t want Henry to tell my mother, she was going to make a fuss out of nothing. I really didn’t want that.

“Maybe I’ll tell Rose and Kali to come take him out…”

“No!” I screamed. Rose and Kali were vampire hunters and a good friend of ours. If they should come here, they would take not just my roommate, bjt also Billie and Xander. “Mum, please just trust me this once, I know what I’m doing.”

She was quiet for a while and when she finally spoke, her voice left no room for argument. “Max, I really want to believe you, I really do, and that’s why I’m going to tell Rose and Kali about this vampire in your dorm room. I heard that you don’t think the other one is bad and that’s why I won’t say a thing about him,” the call ended and I gritted my teeth and slammed the phone onto the bed as my eyes went back to Billie who was slowly starting to come around.

The door opened just then and I turned around to see that it was my roommate.

“He threw a pint of blood at the floor, beside her. Let me guess, vervain.”

I nodded. “She tried to attack me. I glanced at the blood he had thrown, narrowing my eyes at it. “And let me guess, human blood.”

He nodded. “She needs a healthy meal.”

I nodded. This was going to be her life now. A healthy meal to her now was going to be blood, not vegetables.
