Chapter eleven
Xander
When I left this town a few years ago, I vowed never to return, but for some reasons, I found myself missing the town and my brother, the only family I had.
Over a hundred years of existence and I was finally missing him. I chuckled at that thought. I never thought that a day like this would come.
My brother and I were alike but different, he was stronger than I was, bjt he didn’t have the heart to do things that needed to be done, unlike me who was brave, fearless and courageous.
And from what I’d heard over the years, he was trying to become human and his diet had become poor, pathetic.
Feeding on animal blood. He must’ve become weaker now.
If only I had such powers!
Perched high on the branch of a gnarled oak tree, a few feets away from his dorm room, my sharp eyes scanned the surrounding.
Unlike him, I could turn into a crow at will, one of the perks of being an original vampire and having a healthy diet of at least five different human blood a day.
He had a new roommate now, interesting! This one looked lanky and short, not manly at all, but would be tasty, I bet.
I tilted my head, intrigued as I watched them bicker about something. Then he rushed to grab his throat.
This was certainly interesting.
Had my little brother suddenly decided that there was no more gunsmith left in him?
Great!
The next thing that happened was even more interesting. The wind came from nowhere and pushed him away from her and she stood grinning before saying something.
I enhanced my hearing to listen to them and that was when I realized that there was something off about this human boy, something I couldn’t quite put my finger on.
“A witch.” My little brother said.
“A siphoner.” The boy corrected and I scoffed.
A siphoner wasn’t strong like that and what I felt from him even being so afar, it was a very strong energy, the exact one I’d been trying to get for a long time!
He was a witch! A male witch.
Male witches were rare and I had heard that in the entire seven covens, there was only one surviving male witch.
Apparently, he was very powerful and capable of creating just what I want, an army.
An army of Hybrids!
Together, we will dominate the world and rid the world of witches and werewolves!
I had to befriend him at all cost!
I saw his eyes met mine and I held his gaze, smiling inwardly as I thought.
‘You and I are going to be best of friends, witch.”
I flew away after a while, suddebky feeling thirsty after thinking about my victory. I could smell fresh blood a few miles away and I salivated at the thought of that.
Nothing was more tastier than the blood of a pregnant woman, especially one on the verge of childbirth. It’s like two flavors joined together, the taste was out of this world.
A few hours later, I was back, I wanted to study the male witch, that way, I’d know the best way to approach him.
He’d forgotten to close the blinds.
Interesting.
Interesting but careless.
I shifted uneasily, my feathers ruffling. Something about his behavior tonight was… strange. Why would someone so seemingly cautious make such a careless mistake? Was it deliberate? Or was it simply exhaustion?
From where I was perched, I noticed a figure on the bed, slumped over, still and unmoving. He had fallen asleep so fast?
Was he tired? What man takes a nap in such heavy clothing.
I narrowed my eyes, wondering if he was chanting some kind of spell or really asleep.
I waited, watching the room for what felt like hours. Finally, he turned and groaned, the first thing I noticed was his chest, they seemed a bit fuller than they were earlier.
He muttered something before walking to the bathroom.
Through the gap in the curtains, I saw his silhouette as he undressed slowly. I was about to turn around wheh something caught my eyes.
The chest….
That wasn’t just chest….it was a breast!
He…it wasn’t a he, she wasn’t a boy!
She was really a witch! A female witch! But o e with so much powers.
Perhaps she could replace Dahlia.
Dahlia was my personal witch, she helped me with the little spells I needed. She had very helpful, but recently, she had been lacking.
It was probably because she was getting old. It was time for her to retire!
Who was she really? And why go through such lengths to hide her identity?
Was she just a mere witch or there was something more?
Something else I was missing.
A grin tugged at the corners of my mind. Whatever game she was playing, it just became infinitely more fascinating.
The following day, I made sure to sit behind her in class, I had already compelled the dean to let me attend the class.
I watched her, fascinated that she had been able to pull this of, no one would ever guess that she was a woman, and not even my little brother.
I followed her as she went to get her coffee and that was when I saw an opportunity.
An opportunity to speak with her!
She wasn’t watching where she was going and I walked towards her, knowing that her coffee was going to spill all over my body.
And it was just as I had predicted.
"I'm so sorry. I wasn't looking." She said as she glanced up to meet my eyes.
She looked like she was studying me and unlike my brother, I don’t bother to try to act human and I knew from the slight change inher expression that she had found out about me.
My lips curled into a smirk as I held her gaze.
"It happens." I said simply. "Allow me to buy you another cup of coffee."
She cleared her throat and I could see the resolve in her eyes. She was scared of me.
Good!
"That wouldn't be necessary. I will take my leave now. I'm sorry again for your shirt,” she began to walk away but I followed her. I wasn’t about to let her slip away from me like that.
"Come on, the least you could do for me after ruining my shirt is have a cup of coffee with me." I said with a smile and could see that she was thinking about it.
“I’m kinda in a rush to get somewhere so I can't." She flashed me a smile and began to hurriedly walk away. For someone small like her, she surprisingly had long legs.
I wasn’t about to let her go. And that was when I felt it. She had created a barrier around herself.
Strange!
Did she perhaps do that because of my brother?
Was she scared of him?
I almost laughed at that.
My pathetic brother who couldn’t hurt a fly…well, except for that one time…a long time ago.
The time everything changed.
“Oh! Bummer. Maybe another time then. How about the freshmen party tonight? Let me buy you a drink." I said agsin, plastering my charming smile that had successfully earned me more ladies, hoping that this would get her to meet me later.
She seemed to hold her laughter before she spoke.
"Why do you keep following me? What do you want from me?" My voice was harsh as I spoke.
I shoved my hands deep inside my pocket and turned my face away, drawing a long sigh.
"I sat behind you in history class a few minutes. I wanted to approach you but I didn't want to come off as too pushy. It's my first time asking out a man." I tried to appear nervous, hoping that it would attract her to me.
She scoffed and shook her head and that made me wonder what was so funny.
“I think you got the wrong idea about me. I'm actually straight."
"Oh! I'm s..so sorry. I made the wrong assumption." I was really embarassed that she’d think I was into men, but then I didn’t blame her.
I had been trying to seduce her all evening.
"It's okay,” she said quickly as though she could see that I was embarrassed. “We can be friends though. I just resumed so I don't have that much friends around here." She said with a smile.
Friends huh? Very nice!
She was very beautiful.
If only we weren’t meeting in such circumstance.
"Yeah sure. So I'll see you at the freshmen party tonight?" I said with hopes, trying not to act all cute. I was already embarrassed enough.
"Yeah."
"Can I get your name and your number too maybe?" O asked.
She nodded and i pulled out my hair bone and stretched it out to her.
Our fngers grazed and I smiled inwardly, she was trying to know the kind of energy I gave of.
Sucks for her, I had been a vampire way longer than her parents had been alive, I knew how to effectively shut out my energy at will.
"My name is Max."
Max huh? Let me guess, Maxine… nice name, it suited her.
"Nice to meet you, Max. I'm Xander."
She raised her brows at me but said nothing and I grinned as I watched her walk away, sure we were going to be friends, best of friends even.
