Chapter twelve

Xander

It was almost time for the party, but first, I need to know the reason a witch had come to a human school in disguise and is also hiding her identity.

I brought out my phone and dialed the familiar number and waited, the call connecting with a single click.

"Xander," Cassie's smooth, knowing voice came from the other end of the line. "What do you need at this hour? I was in the middle of preparing a spell."

"Apologies for the interruption," I said, although I wasn’t sorry, but I had learnt to keep my witches happy so they could do my bidding. Those creatures were sneaky. "I need information. Have you heard anything from your contacts in the coven?"

She let out an exasperated sigh. "You and your insatiable curiosity. Which coven are we talking about this time ?"

I shrugged. Of course it wasn’t going to be easy. There were several covens, sneaky witches!

“Well, anyone,l" I replied, leaning against the desk. "Anything about a witch sent out of their circle recently to the human works In search of something?"

There was a pause on her end. I could hear the faint sound of pages flipping,it had to be her grimoire.

"Why do you ask?" she said finally, her voice carrying a note of suspicion.

I almost laughed. I didn’t really care about things like this.

"I’ve met someone," I admitted. "She doesn’t fit into the usual mold of witchss. There’s something different about her, a quiet power. And she’s been hiding it."

"You’re describing every witch who has ever lived among humans," she teased, but her tone shifted when I didn’t laugh. "You’re serious."

"I am," I said firmly. "There’s something else. She… she’s exceptionally good at pretending she doesn’t."

Cassie hummed thoughtfully. "Well, I heard that something is going on in the Gemini Coven but funny you mention this now. The Gemini are not exactly in a position to spare anyone, not with the curse looming over them."

"Curse?" I frowned.

"You don’t know?" Cassie asked, her tone laced with incredulity. "For centuries, the Gemini have been bound by a curse that weakens their bloodline. Every generation, they send out one of their own on a mission to break it, the one true witch. The chosen witch is often their most powerful, although they don’t always realize it at first."

"Go on," I urged, my mind racing with several thoughts. It was more interesting now..

She hesitated. "The current chosen one, rumor has it that she’s finally find a way to permanently break the curse, and she was sent to the human world to do that.

"Do you know her name?" I asked, gripping the edge of the desk, wondering if my thought had been accurate.

Cassie hesitated again. "No. The Gemini s are secretive about their chosen witches. It’s their last line of defense against whoever, or whatever placed the curse on them. But Xander…"

"What?"

"If this girl you’ve met is truly a witch from the Gemini coven, you’re in dangerous territory. Their power is unstable. You’ve seen what happens when witches don’t understand their abilities."

I nodded, although she couldn’t see me. "I’ve seen it. But she’s not just a potential threat, she’s interesting, Cassie. Fascinating."

"You’re always drawn to chaos," she said, sighing again. "Just remember, if she is the Gemini witch, you’re meddling in coven business. That’s not something even you can charm your way out of."

I smirked. "We’ll see about that."

Cassie groaned. "I’ll dig around, but don’t do anything reckless in the meantime. And Xander?"

"Yes?"

"Don’t underestimate her. If she’s the chosen one, you’ll be dealing with powers neither of us can control."

The line went dead, and I stared at the phone in my hand, her warning echoing in my mind.

The true witch.

If she really was the witch destined to break the curse, then she wasn’t just intriguing, she was the key to something far greater.

And I wasn’t about to let her out of my sight.

But what was her mission here?

I knew that it was something important, but I couldn’t think of anything

I was at the party early, I wanted to see if I could find out anything more about her, but for some reasons, everyone of my contacts I asked couldn’t come up with anything.

Something was sure up.

I watched her as she walked into the bar. This was clearly not her scene, but she wanted to be here, she must’ve had a reason.

She glanced around as though she was looking for someone and I smiled inwardly, knowing that she was looking for me.

I settled into the vacant seat beside her and that was when she saw me.

“You made it,” i said, drawing her attention to me. She was an interesting woman and I couldn’t wait for us to become good friends.

"I did say I was going to come."

"I'm so glad you did. Have you ordered anything yet?" I asked, knowing that she wasn’t a drinker upon seeing that she had only ordered water.

"No. just this glass of water."

"Allow me buy you a drink. What would you like to have?" I pressed, clearly wanting to push my luck.

"No, it's fine. Not much of an alcohol person,” she replied as she avoided my eyes and I forced myself not to smile.

"Wow, I'm impressed." I turned to the bartender.

"I'll have some vodka."

"Vodka, huh? You have a good taste in alcohol,” she said and I nodded.

"Well, I'm part Russian. Full name is Xander Sokolov,” i wanted to see if she would piece the puzzle together.

"Interesting. Do you have any family members around here, Xander?"

Interesting question, witch. But I won’t bite.

"Not that I know of. We all spread out to different parts of the world."

She nodded and I tried to read her thoughts, but being a witch, I knew that it was impossible.

Suddenly, her expression changed, she seemed te sef and uncomfortable. I knew that something wrong and that was when I saw it.

The glamore egg, the rarest object in the world and the only object that could detect a hybrid.

My little brother was here.

I almost laughed.

Of course that was her mission. To find the last hybrid.

"I need to use the restroom,” She said a little bit too hurriedly and I knew that it was the glamore egg. It’s powers were too strong, torturous.

She began to walk briskly, following him as he walked away and I knew then and there that I needed to do something.

The only thing I could think of was to find someone to become the next hybrid. Of course that was impossible, but I could make some believe that he was the hybrid.

I went to work immediately. I saw a young human boy seated just a few feets away and moved to him in a flash.

I compelled him to believe that he was a hybrid. Of course that would manipulate the glamore egg. I had heard about that before.

That was the only flaw the Glamor egg had.

I didn’t have to wait much to see it effective.

She rushed towards him, injecting him with something I believe to be vervain.

Vervain was harmless to humans.

She seemed very surprised to see him and I figured that they had met earlier.

In an instant, he was on her, pinning her to the wall and choking her. The human boy was strong as I saw her struggled to pry herself away from him and I decided to come to the rescue.

I grabbed him with just a hand and pushed him away from her.

"Are you okay?” I asked, feigning concern and she managed a nod.

He tried to grab her agsin but I held him back and looked him in the eyes, compelling him.

"Get the hell out of here, right now."

"I don't think so,” the human replied. He sounded so brazen and even bold as he tried to remove my hand from his shoulder.

"Now!" I said again and this did the trick as he walked away.

While leaving, I found my next meal, she looked familiar and I realized that it was the bartender from earlier.

She was a blonde and blondies have the tastiest blood ever, well, apart from pregnant women.

If I remember correctly, her name was Billie.
