Chapter 9 (What?)
My wrist was being held by Reece and we were rushing in the corridors. We came to halt after he dragged me to my room and closed the door behind him. He turned around and I was shocked at seeing how his expressions were.
"What the hell do you think you were doing?!" He slammed his arm against the wall. I have never seen him this angry before. What was he getting so worked up for?
"I was not doing anything! He was the one who was attacking me!"
"I know that! Why were you even talking to him! Do you not know his reputation?" At this point, we were screaming at each other.
"In fact, I did not know! Why are you even screaming at me?!"
"What if something happened to you? What would you have done?" There was concern in his eyes.
"I know how to defend myself, Prince Reece... You don't have to worry..." I try to calm him down.
"Fine. Just next time be more careful." He takes a deep breath as if he has been holding it too long.
"Ok, I will," I reassure him.
"Are we going to talk about how you punched a nobleman? You can get in serious trouble."
"I'll take care of it and he can rot in hell for all that I care!" His anger starts to resurface once again.
"Calm down. I'm right here. I'm safe." It sounds like lovers trying to console each other but what are we?
"Why did you do that? I'm just a maid prince Reece, one day you have to treat me like one." I can't get too close to you. I need you to get away from me, I don't have the strength to do that.
"Not to me, you’re like a friend to me. Someone I can talk anything about." Please don't make me do this.
"Well, I can't be your friend. The only relationship we have is that you are my king and nothing else." I look at him dead straight in the eye to make it seem more believable.
"Is that really what you think of me?" He is hurt. It's taking everything in me not to confess my feelings. I really hated this.
"Yes. Now can you please excuse me?" This time I look everywhere other than him.
"If that's what you want." He leaves the room and slams the door.
I hate to do this but if I need to get closer to Eve, I need to get away from the prince. I can't drag him in my mess. I need to end this once and for all. I decide to rest for the rest of the day. Today has been an emotional rollercoaster.
The past two days I haven't seen both Reece and Eve. I assume Reece is ignoring me which is what I wanted in the first place but I feel terrible. I miss him, his flirty comments, his nice attitude, and his funny character. I didn't want to admit this but I'm pretty sure I like Reece.
In the meantime, I've been thinking of other strategies. I decided to open up to Eve a little bit in hopes that she would do the same. If only I could find her. As soon as I thought that I saw her through my bedroom window, outside the palace, watering the garden.
I rush outside to talk to her and find her smelling the roses and other flowers.
"Hey Eve." I wave my hand.
"Hi, how are you?" She smiled. I swear if I didn't know better I would think she is one of the nicest people I've ever met.
"Good. I haven't seen you around lately. What happened?" I ask curiously awaiting her answer.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I went on a trip and just came back." That explains it.
"Why don't we take a walk?" I ask while gesturing towards the garden lane.
"Okay,"
We stroll around and talk about the types of flowers and just gossip about all sorts of things until I decided to stage my acting.
"I have been thinking since you opened up to me. I decided to tell you something about me to." She simply stares at me.
"My parents, they were murdered." All the color from her face was drained. She looked guilty. After all she has killed someone indirectly.
"I'm so sorry." She whispers.
"It's ok. They were the kindest soles ever. They were the best." I act as if I'm crying and she taps my back. She looked relieved. Obviously, it was lies. Maybe she justifies her actions depending on what type of person they killed.
"It's ok..." She tries to console me as I slowly sob.
"I don't know who murdered them but it wasn't right! Why me!" I act absolutely depressed. I could be in a musical with my acting skills.
"They might have not been financially stable but they were the greatest parents ever!" I exclaim.
I try to see her reaction. She looks sad as if she pities me which is just what I'm going for. We walk around the garden and see a small bench, we walk towards hit and she helps me to sit down. I cry some more to make it as believable as I can so she can start opening up to me. I finally stop crying and waiting to see what she says next.
"I have something to confess," She says, her hands on her lap and her head bent down.
"My parents were also murdered." Now we are getting somewhere. I see water droplets in her lap and notice she is crying. This time I try to console her by rubbing her back.
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." I try to act genuinely so that she is convinced.
"No, I want to. You have shared so much with me. It is only fair if I do the same." She wipes her tears and looks at me.
"Although You might not believe what I say next. Promise me you will trust me and not let anybody else know." I had a bad feeling about what she will say next.
"I promise," I say hoping that it's nothing too bad.
"The northern king and queen killed my parents."
What?
