Chapter 55

Chapter 55
“Annie, you have a visitor,” Mary peeked around the door. She flashes a cheerful smile, eyes twinkling.
“Who is it?” Annie has been working on the manuscript. She hates it when people interrupt her creative process.
“The woman said she is your publisher. I didn’t know you were a writer?” Mary sounded childishly curious.
“I am just playing around with words.” Annie said quietly. She closed her notebook getting onto her feet. “Am I allowed to have visitors?”
“What an odd question, Annie. You are allowed to have people checking up on your welfare.” Mary said in disbelief.
“How long have I been here?” Annie rubs behind her neck. Her body feels stiff.
“You have been here almost four weeks. You are doing well. Doctor Stevens is happy with your progress,” Mary keeps talking cheerfully.
“Okay,” Annie looks at her appearance in the mirror. The face reflected in the mirror looks like her but at the same time not. It was like she doesn’t recognize who she was.
“I am going to tell your guest you will be there shortly.” Mary slipped out of the room.
Aaron sits in his office going over the legal documents his lawyer forward to him. The man was worried about a decision he made without consulting him. He has been going over the information but it keeps him puzzled with shock and no understanding. What the hell drive him to make such a disastrous decision.
“Zac,” he said without looking up.
“Yes, boss?” he looks up from where he was also going through same legal documents.
“I don’t remember authorizing the sale of the oil rig in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.” Aaron has recognized his own signature.
“You made that decision after the explosion, boss.” Zac answers from where he sits watching him.
“Who is the buyer?”
“An international conglomerate from the East. You should have the order of sale there with you.”
“Where is the money? I see no paperwork to that effect.” Aaron rechecked every single document in front of him.
“Boss,” Zac stood up from where he was sitting. He steps closer. “I asked you once. You just said the money was divided into various Trusts. You never told me anything else.”
Aaron stood from his desk. He rubs across his eyes feeling the tension building. His mind was filled with questions. The major one flagging red in his mind, why the hell did he made such a huge mistake?
“Boss,” Zac said carefully.
“What is it?”
“Why don’t you ask your wife? Maybe she would know.” He suggests.
Aaron now sharply focuses on Zac. The words were spinning in his mind but the actual meaning felt so alien yet familiar. “What do you mean?” he finally managed to ask.
“Boss, are you saying you have forgotten about Annie?” The other man sounded worried, a look of disbelief washing over his face. “You should go and see Doctor Stevens.,” he said carefully.
Aaron slowly turns around looking out the window. He starts to realize that there was something very wrong. He suddenly moves to his desk reaching for his wallet and cellphone.
“Call my driver, I am going out.” He said sharply.
Once Zac finished making that call, he now made a call of his own. While he waited, he sits smirking finding the situation very interesting. After a couple of minutes, he watches the office door opened.
“What do you want, Zac?”
“You should watch how you talk with me, Adam Blake,” Zac warns looking at the roughneck.
“I am not on the Atlantic oil rig. I don’t have to comply with your orders,” Adam said looking serious. His first real job was working full time for Aaron Casey but one mistake pushed him into debt with this fool. He found himself trapped seeing no way out. This fool sold his debt to a very dangerous man.
“Maybe I should call the Boss?” Zac warns.
“You are like a little bitch. You are a fool thinking you are in control,” Adam said snidely.
“I am your boss.”
“What do you want?” Adam asked again now crossing his arms over his chest.
“Where is Eric? You need to work as a team.”
“He is in the parking garage.”
“Call him and tell him to follow Aaron. He is about to leave the building.” Zac said matter of fact.
“What happened?”
“I told him to talk to his wife.” Zac said looking smug.
“You know, I pity you all. There will be hell to pay when that man starts to remember.” Adam took his phone and made the call. “What else do you want?”
“Gregor Damian’s brother-in-law. Find the bastard. He owes me money then had the nerve going underground. Go pay his old lady a visit. I want him found.”
Adam said nothing just turned around leaving the office.
Annie found the woman waiting in the visiting room. As always, she noticed no other hospital personal. She did learn there is more people but they made a point of avoiding her.
“Hello, Annie.” Aura quickly comes closer. Her quick sharp eyes wander over her face. Whatever she was looking for seemed to please her. “You look good.” The woman briefly wrapped her arms around Annie.
“Who are you again?” Annie asked pointedly. She slipped out of the woman’s arms.
“Really, Annie! When I told you to emerge yourself into your latest book I didn’t actually mean become your own character,” she said impatiently.
Annie said nothing. She has no clue what the woman was talking about. Her eyes stayed focus on the other woman.
“Really, Annie.” She questions. When it was clearly, she would receive no response, she sighs deeply then reached for Annie’s hand. “We need to talk,” she said firmly.
Annie found herself forced to sit down in the chair. She feels resentful but also realized this woman might know something about her life.
“The first time we met, we didn’t like each other. But you brought something to the table. A silly children’s book. You become Annie Black, fun-loving writer who lives in a world of her own.” Aura said sincerely.
“Why did we clash?”
“Your mother. I wanted you to promote your book across the country. You refuse because you were taking care of her.” Aura leaned back in her chair.
“This new book?” Annie let the question hang between them.
“You tell me. Talk about your progress. That’s why I am here.”
Annie said nothing.
