Chapter 56

Chapter 56

“Good day, sir.” Mathew opened the back door of the SUV. Once Aaron was settled in the backseat, he closed the door before getting behind the steering wheel.

“Mathew, do I have a wife?” Aaron asked rubbing through his eyes. The vehicle starts moving.

“Annie Black Casey, sir.” He confirms matter of fact.

“I don’t remember. What am I forgetting?”

“Leonardo Casey,” he said again, now pulling into the traffic. He has noticed another vehicle starts following them. He has noticed that blonde man hanging around in the parking garage. Since then, he made a point of always checking the SUV. He hasn’t forgotten what had happened in Switzerland. The explosion that nearly blinded the man in the vehicle with him.

“Who is he?”

“Your son, sir. He is around five years now.”

“Where is he?” Aaron felt a tightening around his heart. He starts to feel afraid of asking where his wife was too.

“Your wife is on the island, sir.” Mathew answers.

“What island?”

“Not sure, sir. You missed the meeting. We are waiting for the next instructions for time and place.” Mathew reached over giving him the phone. “You dropped this. I picked it up,” he was now heading out of the city.

Aaron looks at the phone. He then looks out the window. The phone was such a silly thing in his hand but he can feel the weight of information it holds.

The moment he unlocks the screen; he looked into the smiling face of a beautiful woman. Although she smiles, he noticed the touch of sadness around her mouth.

Annie…he thinks silently within his mind…

“Sir,” Mathew said quietly.

“Yes,” he asked absentmindedly.

“Where are we going? I need to know to shake the vehicle behind us,” he said directly.

Aaron’s immediate instinct was to turn around but he managed to control the urge. He said an address that just popped into his mind. Then for the next few minutes he watches his driver disappeared from sight. He effectively manages to shake the following vehicle.

“Who is that guy? I noticed him around the company.”

“Eric Klussen and his lurking friend, Adam Blake.”

“What do you know about them?” Aaron keeps looking at the screensaver of Annie’s face.

“I am not sure how they are connected to Zac. The technical team is still searching your background like you asked. Your past is almost blank, sir.”

“What are you saying?” Aaron tries his best to stay focus and listens to the words coming from Mathew.

“Sir, you have fragmented pieces of memory. You had a traumatic brain injury. Then there was the explosion just as you start remembering what about before the brain operation. Again, pieces of your memory are gone.” Mathew explained in detail.

Aaron starts to realize there is danger around him. Yet somehow his driver stayed loyal and keeping his life’s information. Whatever was going on, he senses he can trust this man with his life and his memories.

“I need to find Annie.”

“All we can do is wait for the next instructions, sir.”

“You are right. Mathew, I have another question. Why did I sell my company?”

“Zac, he is working for the buyer from the East. Technically speaking, he is your boss now.”

“Why the hell is the man playing games with me then?”

“Doctor Grace Stevens. You were in a relationship with her. Zac likes seducing all your previous girlfriends. Annie Black was different. It made him furious. That was the start of the first attempt on your life. We are here, sir.”

Mathew stopped the SUV, then climbed out to open the backdoor. His eyes checked the area but there doesn’t seemed to be any surveillance. Yet he stays vigilant.

Thom Black quickly opened the door when he heard the firm knock. Shock was visible in his eyes when he saw who it was.

“Aaron, what the hell are you doing here?”

“May I come in?” he asked politely.

Thom holds the door opened allowing entrance. Both men walked to the kitchen where Hanna was. The woman was holding her hand carefully over her heart.

“Where is my daughter, Aaron? Where is my grandson?”

Aaron could only watch her. The older woman clearly a mirror image of his wife, was anxious.

“I don’t know,” he said honestly.

“Didn’t you receive the summons?” she asked quietly.

“I did but I missed it, ma’am.”

“Really, Aaron, after all this time. I told you to call me Hanna,” she said annoyed with underlining of worry.

“Hanna, I am remembering some things. I also seemed to forget huge pieces of my life. I don’t know how to reach Annie. I have forgotten I have a son,” he sits down on the chair. “Do you have some pain killers? This headache is killing me.”

“You are not to drink anything,” Hanna said in alarm.

“Why not?” he quickly looks up. The throbbing headache makes his head feel like a heavy ball.

“Grace Stevens, my former doctor. I don’t know why but the woman has experimented on you. We only recently discovered the truth.”

“What the hell?” Aaron stood to search for water.

“Aaron, do you remember the first time you married Annie. She was twenty-two at the time.” Hanna watches him intently. She saw the absolute raw confusion on his face.

“No,” he finally admits.

“Aaron,” Hanna reached for his hands.

“What the hell is happening to me?”

“Your dark sinister past. Your mother had managed to get away from that life. Your father’s family was extremely powerful and dangerous. After many years of searching, they found her but you slipped through the cracks. Then you become a millionaire in your own opening doors directly to your past.” Hanna explained matter of fact.

“What the hell should I do, Hanna?”

“The only way you can save Annie and your son, is to play the game of your life. You should find a way to focus your memory otherwise you will disappear. You are heir to immense power, power that truly frightened your mother., Aaron.”
