Chapter 46 Billionaire Powerless In Front Of Her
The meaning of his words was so strange that she felt as if he was holding up the sky for her, but shouldn't such sweet words be spoken to her?
She wasn't his real girlfriend, and she didn't need to pretend in front of Jessica now, right?
"Mr. Ethan Shawn Romano..." Lilly couldn't help but hesitate, wanting to remind him that these words seemed to be addressed to the wrong person.
Hearing this, he frowned and interrupted, "Ziyan hopes you'll call me by my name."
It was Ziyan again.
Lilly's heart sank, and she turned her head to look outside the window, involuntarily muttering in a low voice, "Then I don't want to call you that."
Music was playing in the car, and Lilly's voice was so quiet that he couldn't hear it and asked, "What did you say?"
"No, I think it's better to call you Mr. Romano; it's a sign of respect," Lilly said with a flattering smile. "Look how much you've helped our Company; you're a great benefactor, aren't you?"
He looked coldly at her hypocritical smile, lightly clenched his hands on the steering wheel, took a deep breath, trying to restrain himself, and felt powerless.
Did she really dare to put on such a false front? Did she really have no feelings for him at all? He had never felt powerless before anything or anyone, but he couldn't handle this girl.
"Lilly, stop lying to me." His face turned cold, and the temperature in the car dropped. "Don't forget what you're planning to do to me tonight at the Liney Family. Even if it's just a game, have you ever seen a girl call her boyfriend 'Mister'?"
Lilly bit her lip, thought for a long time, and finally worked up the courage to ask, "Why don't you go with Ziyan?"
A year ago, she had seen them together and promised to spend the rest of her life with them. Why did she have to ask her to end her relationship with Jessica now?
Deep down, she knew that he shouldn't be the kind of man who cheated on his girlfriend and had affairs with others.
"What do you think of the Liney?" he asked coldly.
Lilly realized that this question was asked to remind her of Liney's influence in the city and how the media monitored their every move.
But she didn't understand what he meant when he suddenly said this. Just as she was about to ask, he blurted out, "Ziyan is currently working in the entertainment industry, and her career is just starting to take off. Any scandal could ruin her. Don't you know that?"
Lilly's heart suddenly turned cold. Was he really trying so hard to protect Ziyan and not wanting to cause trouble for his beloved girlfriend?
So he used her, this insignificant person, as a shield. She was unimportant anyway.
Lilly suddenly lost the desire to argue with him. It was just a name. Just call her. She wouldn't lose anything. So she gave in, forced a smile, and cried sweetly, "Ethan, is this okay?"
Lilly's voice was always softer than that of ordinary girls, as if possessed of magical power. She had once sweetly called him by his first name, and every time he heard it, he trembled.
The corners of her tightly pressed lips relaxed slightly, and he hummed contentedly, then watched as Lilly closed her eyes and leaned back tiredly in the car seat.
Her brows were slightly furrowed, a hint of melancholy laced within them, which made her feel uneasy. She had been ill the previous day, and she had spent the entire night nursing him. She must be very tired.
He resisted the urge to touch her cheek, reached up to turn down the volume, turned the air conditioner on full blast, then looked away, staring at the road ahead and forcing himself to concentrate on driving.
Lilly was angry and didn't want to talk to him, so she closed her eyes, pretended to be asleep, and said nothing. Suddenly, she fell asleep with her eyes closed.
When she woke up, the car had already pulled up to the apartment.
Ethan leaned back in the driver's seat, Bluetooth headphones in his right ear, tapping his fingers on his laptop and listening to a video report from a group of coworkers about their work.
"When did you arrive?" After a good night's sleep, Lilly felt much better and no longer so angry with him. When she woke up, she saw him holding his laptop and holding a meeting. It seemed he had been there for quite some time.
He waved at the screen, and the video conference was immediately paused. He turned on the Bluetooth headset and turned off the light, then turned around and... "When Miss Johnson slept like a pig."
"Why didn't you wake me?" Lilly blushed, a little embarrassed. She didn't understand what he meant by "slept like a pig." Was she snoring?
"You snored so loudly that I couldn't wake up," his answer confirmed her suspicions.
Lilly's face turned so red it threatened to bleed. She really was snoring.
It was so awkward...
He stared at her embarrassed and flushed face, a mischievous smile flickering in his eyes. In fact, Lilly wasn't snoring at all; she was sleeping very soundly, so when the car pulled up to the basement, he didn't want to wake her.
"Then I'll go up." Lilly, avoiding his gaze, unbuckled her seatbelt, opened the door, and got out of the car.
"I'll send someone to deliver the dress this afternoon," he said.
Lilly wanted to say, "No, thank you," but before she could say anything, he had already stepped on the gas pedal, and the Panamera instantly took off.
Lilly had to give in and entered the apartment.
When she opened the door, as soon as Lilly stepped through the door, Yulia asked, "What's going on between you and Ethan?"
"What's going on?" Lilly was confused. Putting away her bag, she grabbed her clothes and was about to go to the bathroom when Yulia stopped her.
Lilly looked at her best friend with a murderous expression and blinked. What was she singing?
"Karl called me this morning," Yulia said, brushing back Lilly's long hair and looking at her neck. The thick layer of powder had fallen off heavily, and numerous purple-red kiss marks, as well as small teeth marks and bruises, were visible on her fair skin. "What Karl said is true."
What did Karl say?
Lilly felt uneasy. Before leaving last night, Karl had asked her if Ethan had left marks on her neck. Although she denied it, she knew Karl wasn't so easily deceived.
"Lilly, tell me the truth, did he bully you?" Yulia asked seriously.
"No," Lilly touched her nose. "What did Karl tell you? I told him it had nothing to do with Ethan."
