Chapter 146 Looking for a carer for Emily

Chapter 146 Looking for a carer for Emily
"You have only slept for three hours, Rose," Evan said, placing a cup of warm tea on Rose's desk.
Rose did not lift her face from the foundation's financial statements. Her hand kept moving, signing expansion documents for a new branch. "I have to finish this before the eight o'clock meeting, Evan. The funding application for the new orphanage cannot be delayed."
"But your body has its limits," Evan whispered. He pulled out the chair next to Rose and sat down. "Your manufacturing business is expanding rapidly. Your social foundation is also opening branches in two cities at once. Your time is entirely consumed by these files."
Rose stopped her pen. She leaned back against her chair and massaged the bridge of her nose to ease the dull thudding in her head. Her eyes were bloodshot, and faint dark circles shadowed the skin beneath her lower lids. "I know. But I cannot let go of either right now."
The study door suddenly opened. Madam Miska stepped inside with hasty strides. The older woman was out of breath, and the hem of her dress looked rumpled and damp from a spilled splash of milk.
"Sir, Madam, forgive me for interrupting," Madam Miska said, holding her hand over her chest.
Evan stood up. "What is it, Madam? Is Emily crying again?"
Madam Miska shook her head softly. "No, Sir. Emily is actually far too active. She was just chasing a cat in the backyard, then she climbed a patio chair and knocked over a flowerpot. I... I simply cannot keep up with her anymore. My knees hurt immediately."
Rose stood up from her chair right away. "Let me go check on her."
"No, Rose," Evan interrupted quickly. He placed a hand on his wife's shoulder, holding her in place. "Look at yourself. Your legs are shaking just standing up because of how little sleep you have had."
"But Emily needs supervision, Evan," Rose replied, her voice growing raspy. "Alan will also be home from school soon and needs a sounding board for his science project."
"Madam Miska has taken care of the children for a long time, but her physical strength has its limits," Evan said plainly. He looked at Madam Miska with deep respect. "Madam cannot keep running after Emily when she is this active."
Madam Miska lowered her head awkwardly. "I am sorry, Madam Rose. I love the children dearly, but lately I run out of breath if I have to watch Emily continuously all day."
Rose stared at Madam Miska, then looked down at the stack of documents on her desk. Her fingers curled into a tight fist at her side. Guilt was written clearly across her features. "This is my fault. I focused too much on work and neglected our home."
"This is no one's fault," Evan cut in gently yet firmly. He squeezed Rose's cold hand. "This is about sharing the burden. You do not have to carry everything by yourself."
"Then what am I supposed to do?" Rose asked. Her eyes began to glisten. "Stop the business expansion? Leave the orphanage unattended?"
"Not at all," Evan answered. "We hire a professional nanny."
Rose pulled her hand back from Evan's grip. "A new nanny? Evan, we just went through so many crises. I cannot simply let a stranger walk into this house and get close to our children."
"I understand your concern," Evan said calmly. "But we have no other choice if we want to preserve your health. You cannot keep working until dawn and then take care of the kids all day without sleep."
Madam Miska stepped closer to Rose and patted her shoulder gently. "It is the right choice, Madam. This is for the good of everyone."
Rose remained silent. She gazed out the study window. Down in the garden, Emily was laughing while jumping on the grass, getting her clothes stained with dirt.
"What if that person has bad intentions?" Rose murmured softly.
"We will not pick someone at random," Evan stated firmly. "We will open this position officially through the most exclusive agency in the city. An agency with a strict screening process, a clear track record, and international certifications."
Rose let out a long breath. She looked at Evan with exhausted eyes. "Are you sure that agency can guarantee their safety?"
"I will personally vet every candidate's background later," Evan replied. "Every document, every employment history, right down to their medical and psychological certificates. Not a single detail will slip past my oversight."
Rose stayed silent for a long moment. The room fell completely quiet, saved only for the steady, rhythmic ticking of the wall clock.
"Alright," Rose finally said in a tone of resignation. "Open the position today."
Evan offered a faint smile. He reached for his phone from his jacket pocket and immediately dialed a number. "I will contact the head of the agency right now to set up our specific criteria."
"Make sure the requirements are strict, Evan," Rose added. "I want a nanny who is not only patient, but also holds proper qualifications in child development."
"Of course," Evan said, placing the phone to his ear. "Good morning, Mr. Rian. I would like to request a nanny with the highest qualifications from your agency. Send over the files for your top candidates today."
While Evan continued his call, Madam Miska walked over to Rose and gave her shoulder a gentle pat. "The right decision, Madam. This is for all of us."
Rose merely nodded. She looked back at the files on her desk, but her mind was no longer on the numbers written on the pages. An uneasy feeling suddenly crept into her chest, a faint sense of dread she could not quite put into words.
A few hours later, in a separate location far from the main residence, a computer screen lit up inside a dim room. The official job posting from the exclusive agency had just gone live on their internal portal.
A hand with scarred skin across the knuckles moved the cursor, clicking on the application form.
"Finally, the door to that house is open for me."
