Chapter One Hundred and Sixty

Cassie, Fiona, and Maxwell sat inside Fiona’s temporary office three days before the grand finale.

It is too silent, Fiona said to them. Yes, it is.

Ama coming to visit me all of a sudden spells trouble. What do you think Xavier is up to now, she asked him.

He wants my company, a share in it and he is using the incident that happened years ago with the governor’s son to rope me in.

But you weren’t the one who pulled the trigger.

His family did not know that, Maxwell sighed. Xavier is threatening to expose me to the family if I don’t give him what he wants.

I think the stunt we pulled a few months ago irks him to no end.

You said he is the only son of his parents. Fiona drawled. Maxwell was hiding something from her, but she didn’t want to pry, if he wasn’t willing to tell her what it was, she would just respect his wishes.

He has another son, Maxwell stated. Xavier threatened me with the other son yesterday.

You mean the other son was here yesterday.

Yes, you’ve met him Maxwell stated for her to nod her head and then she suddenly looked up.

The guy in a mask, Fiona said suddenly.

Yes, the guy in the mask. Do you know that guy looks like someone I know, but I can’t place it?

Alright stop dwelling on that, let’s get to the point where we find out where the original evidence is, he said deviating the matter.

What can we do with the evidence, Cassie said?

If the second son is portrayed, we need to show him the evidence else we don’t know how he would act.

He has already acted, Maxwell muttered under his breath.

What? Fiona asked him.

Ahh.. nothing. We need to find that evidence real quick. I wouldn't want you to lose a good friend because of his revenge, he said vaguely.

What do you mean by that? Fiona asked him.

You are my Fiance, he said quickly and my only friend too. I don’t want to lose you or you, he gestured to Cassie.

After all, I am so dashing, he mimed Ahn’s posture making her laugh.

Your jealousy is top-notch, you were even able to mimic his stance. You must have watched him very closely, she pointed out.

But Maxwell only shrugged and Cassie just smiled at them.

She feels happy that they are working on the same thing now and the two of them.

Thompson can help you with some things you, Cassie suggested and Turner too Fiona said but the mention of Turner made him freeze.

Thompson has the network to get me what I wanted so I can ask him, he said ignoring the mention of Turner’s help.

Fiona, who noticed it, furrowed her brow. Was he back to doubting Turner’s intentions toward her?

Wanting to pry the reason out from him, she baited him.

Turner is turning curious about what has been going on. When I spoke to him about seeing Ama he was shocked at my reaction but I couldn’t tell him anything.

Don’t tell Turner anything, Maxwell said to her.

I don’t want him hurt and I know his hurting would affect you. I don’t want that for you, he said to her.

Yes, sisi Cassie puts in, Thompson wouldn’t be involved directly in the issue.

This circle stays between us three, she said.

Okay, Fiona nodded assuredly. I will find a way to deviate his thoughts from what happened.

You said you would get me Ama, Turner said coldly to Xavier who sat in front of him.

That I will, Xavier said to him pleadingly. The woman has been avoiding me for years, Xavier lied.

Xavier wanted to use Turner to get Maxwell on his lap.

He knew what he was doing was dangerous but the blow on his business was too much making it impossible to even afford a to-and-fro trip like he used to.

He had fed Turner lies for months now, making him believe Maxwell was the real culprit. He knew who Turner was well enough to know that he would stop at nothing to bring Maxwell down from his empire and when that happened Maxwell would have no choice but to turn to him again.

And this time Xavier planned to bid his time before killing Turner off and pinning the death on Maxwell again.

This way Maxwell will be completely on his lap. And all this will be made possible by Maxwell’s impulsive nature.

Heaven was smiling down at him. He smiled at Turner who stared at him with those intelligent eyes boring into his own.

Turner played with the rim of his glass cup. He knew Xavier was lying through his teeth the moment he brought up about the death of his brother.

Does he think being the faceless son was just a title alone? There was a reason why he went hidden and his brother was put in the forefront.

If Xavier thinks he has no idea that he was the one that got Ama to kidnap him years ago he must be joking or that he didn’t know that he was framing Maxwell Harold for his own benefit.

He has spent seven years finding out who got his brother killed.

And like the rest he had thought it was Maxwell at first so he moved to New York from New Zealand to monitor him.

He knew of every move he made and the blackmail between him and Xavier.

The last case Fiona got involved in was what made him rethink and Maxwell investigating the incident.

Turner had come to believe that no culprit would investigate the crime they had committed unless they were psychos and Maxwell Harold may be impulsive but he isn’t a psycho nor was he a fool.

And guilt was the reason why he allowed Xavier to overrule him for years. However, he must commend his ability not to completely give in for years and Xavier is yet to get what he wants.

If there was one thing Ama taught him during his kidnap was to play the person playing you at his own games.

Like he had said to Maxwell, he hadn’t expected Fiona to be acquainted with him. He would never hurt her.

For years he had been in love with her but he knew she could never be his so he followed his father’s instructions to marry for more power.

And for years despite having someone else in his heart he was still able to fulfill the role of a husband to his wife and his wife had been an understanding woman who stood by him and made him see her until he started liking her.

He knew what he felt for Fiona could never fade away but he was happy with the life he chose.

Perhaps he could see Fiona’s heart where it was.

He has no grudge against Maxwell, he probably could have killed him if Fiona hadn’t helped him with some things and that would mean he killed an innocent man.

No, Turner doesn’t just kill his prey, he makes them suffer.

He looked at the old man in front of him like he couldn’t tell what he was thinking. Xavier wanted to use him to get rid of Maxwell and then kill him off.

If he can’t figure this out then he is probably stupid and Ama, Xavier has hidden her well and even his people could not find her.

His only option was to get Fiona to talk to him about what she thinks. Fiona is the only person that can give him the missing clue but the girl has sworn secrecy with her fiance.

Turner clenched his hands at the thought itself.

Maxwell Harold, he thought. The man was so lucky to escape his grasp not that he would let it slide.

Because he was there and he had fought with his brother too, he would make him know what it means to do that.

His little punishment is awaiting him so he would let Xavier run the show for him before he strikes.

But first Fiona Williams has to confess what she has been hiding.
