Chapter Forty Three

"Oh mother. Why did you have to wake up now." Clive hit his forehead.

Bethany laughed. "I couldn't help it. The smell of breakfast was too enticing. And besides, I'm glad to see you and David so happy together."

Clive smiled sheepishly. "It's a little embarrassing to have been caught like that, but I'm glad you're happy for us."

Bethany walked over to Clive and gave him a hug. "I'm just happy that you've found someone who makes you so happy." She said, her voice full of love and pride. "David seems like a good person. And I can tell he really cares for you."

Clive's heart swelled with happiness. " I'm glad you think so mom."

Bethany smiled softly as she sadly thought of something. " You know I really thought you wouldn't be happy after Sarah died... My dear I thought that entire accident... You losing your pregnant wife would get you so miserable you wouldn't even want to ever be happy again."

Clive's smile faded, and his eyes became misty with memories. "It was hard, mom. For a long time, I thought I would never be able to feel happy again. But then, I met David, and I realized that life could still be good, even after such a tragedy. I still miss Sarah, but I'm grateful for the time we had together, and for the memories we made. And I'm also grateful that I can now move forward and make new memories with David."

"I'm so glad you're able to see that, my son." Bethany said, her voice full of emotion.

" Okay now I have to go to the office. See what I need to do there before coming back to my dear husband I'll take him to my house. And you'll be here all alone old lady."

Bethany gasped at that. " Old? You and your cousin are getting on my nerves. I'll deal with you and Kenneth one of these days. "

Clive just laughed, and gave his mother a quick hug. "Just kidding, mom. You know you're still young and beautiful in our eyes."

Bethany rolled her eyes, but she couldn't help but smile. "Now go before I change my mind and keep you here with me."

"I'll miss you." Clive said, giving his mother one last hug before heading out the door.

As he drove away, he couldn't help but feel grateful for the life he had. He had a loving mother, a wonderful husband, and a second chance at happiness. He couldn't ask for anything more.

David was washing the dishes of the night before when there was a knock on the door.

He was about to go get the door but Bethany stopped him. " Don't worry dear. I'll go check. "

"Thanks mom." David said.

Bethany smiled. " Mom?"

"Oh did I do something wrong? Can't I call you mom? I just thought since I'm married to your son now I can actually—" he was stopped from continuing by Bethany putting a hand on his lips. Silencing him.

"No, no, that's not what I meant." Bethany said, a small laugh escaping her lips. "It's just, I've never been called 'mom' before by anyone but my son. It's new for me, and it feels... amazing."

David smiled. "I'm glad you feel that way, Bethany. And you know I don't just consider you as Clive's mother. I really do think of you as my mother."

Bethany's eyes welled up with tears. She pulled David into a tight hug, her heart full of gratitude and love. "Thank you, David. That means the world to me. Truly."

The knock on the door persisted. Bethany went to go open it. She was shocked to see two women there.

One being the one she remembered kicking out. She had looked disheveled before now she was with a woman in nun clothing.

They both did not even ask to get in this time just stormed inside leaving Bethany in a daze.

"David Storm!" The nun yelled with a voice that could have shook the walls of the house.

David's entire body froze at the sound of this voice. This caused the plate he had on his hands to fall on the floor and break with a loud 'CLANK!' Sound.

"David Storm!" The nun yelled again. Her eyes were racing looking for David.

David who walked out slowly from the kitchen. His eyes made contact with the nun.

"You're alive?" His voice was shaking.

"Wait, wait!" Bethany got in the middle of the room. " David you know these women?"

"These women?" Mother Superior scoffed. " I am Mother Superior give me some respect now will you insolent woman!"

Bethany scoffed back. " Quite frankly I have no care who you are or what you do. I just don't appreciate you storming into my house like this."

The nun smiled. " Clearly I don't have time for this nonsense to bicker with you sinner. I'm here for him." Her long finger nail pointed at David.

"What do you want with my son in-law?"

The nun smirked. " He knows me. I am his nanny that raised him after all. "

David hid from behind Bethany. " I don't want her here please tell her to leave. " Even though he was now an adult he was still very afraid of this woman. The years of abuse she had him go through made him fear her. Especially now that she was like a ghost to him. "They said she was dead. " He muttered still behind Bethany.

"Well they lied." Mother Superior said with an evil smirk. " Now make haste and come with me now without a fight."

"And where do you want to take him? " Bethany asked in a challenging tone protecting her son in-law.

"So you won't make this easy for us?" Mother Superior threw some papers at Bethany. " Read that if you're not blind."

"What's this?" Bethany looked at the pages.

"That my dear is the evidence of what that monster I raised did to your daughter in-law and your poor unborn grandchild." She looked at the woman who was next to her. " Talk girl!"

The woman shivered and looked at David and Bethany. " I was the nurse at the hospital your son and daughter in-law were admitted to. And our doctor found out that he... Mr Storm was the one that had caused the accident that killed your daughter in-law and unborn grandchild. He was driving the truck that hit your son's car. "
