Chapter 64 - Changes

We knock on the door to Dr Thornes office which is slightly ajar and step inside, the room is in chaos, it looks as though Dr Thorne decided to rearrange the furniture while unpacking the small amount he brought with him. He heaves a sigh sitting on the corner of his desk and gives us a wan smile.
"I left most of my journals behind, I wish we had had more time, but I suppose I can record what I remember of them and start fresh," I smile, happy the first thing we give him is good news.
"I'm not sure that will be necessary, we have good news to share with you Dr."
"Please, call me Felix and colour me intrigued."
"Alpha Sven has asked our Beta, Dave, to take his place as Alpha. Dave has accepted and would be happy to let you return with him if you wish it, if however you wish to stay here, that is an option as well, we plan to essentially merge the packs we will be in very close contact with them and will have no restrictions between the packs, if you wish to stay here you may return and gather anything you want to bring with you." Jack speaks matter of factly with a glint in his eye as he is happy he can help the man who helped me so much in my times of need.
"Wow, that is some good news, I'm glad Alpha Sven can be at peace now, he is a good Alpha.” Taking a deep breath he continues, “I would like to stay here if it is all the same with you two? I want to be close by should you ever need me," he says, looking at me, "who else could I trust with the future heirs of this pack?" He grins and throws me a wink as I blush to my roots.
"We would be honoured to provide you with a home and appreciate you wanting to stay, I also wanted to thank you for all you have done for my mate, without you we may never have met, I'm sure our future pups are in great hands," Jack starts off laughing but turns serious when he says his thanks, I lean into his side and he wraps his arm around my shoulders. We chat for a bit then leave Felix to settle in some more.
Next stop, Tara, I have a feeling she is going to be nervous speaking with us, she doesn't know us and her experience at Twin Lakes was not a happy one, but we need to know more about her and we need to ensure her that we are not like Ace and Maddie, we are good people, but we also intend to give her the choice of returning with Dave and Daisy.
Out meeting with Tara was short, she doesn't want to return to Twin Lake's and she doesn't want to share her story yet, she isn't ready and I respect that, she had however assured us she is not in danger, nor is she running from anything that will affect us or our pack, we believe her so we have agreed she can stay. We also learned she is not from Twin Lakes originally but from a pack further north where she was the Gammas daughter, so I have enlisted her help in my Luna training as I have nobody else to help that knows the role. Since the Gamma are always closest to their Luna she is naturally able to help me even if she doesn't carry the Gamma title.
Dave and Daisy met with Alpha Sven and Dave was given his Alpha aura, that night, the twin lakes pack will have felt the shift and though they do not know Dave, they will recognise him upon his arrival tomorrow. Dave has named Daisy as his Beta but she will not get her aura until Ace is stripped of it. We have full confidence in Daisy being an amazing beta.l just as we know Dave will be an incredible Alpha. Dave and Daisy are making plans and packing up their belongings to travel to Twin Lakes early tomorrow morning to begin the transition but all of us have agreed that we are going to build a bridge across the lake between our 2 territories which will shorten the travelling distance considerably. I'm sad to be losing them both so soon, but I understand the urgency, they need to restore order, Alpha Sven was weak for too long and it has weakened the pack, more so because Ace was in charge and being the self centred man he is, he has allowed the pack to falter.
Jack has plans to work closely with the warriors a lot in the next 2 weeks to see if any are worthy of the Beta position, he has 3 candidates he wants to test based on Brian's advice, but also wants to see if anyone else could be worthy.

After sitting in the kitchen, munching on some of my favourite nibbly bits with Jack and the others we all decided it was time we went our separate ways. I was still reeling from the bomb dropped on Dave at the end of the meeting, Alpha! Dave was going to be Alpha, and I was going to the pack that had caused my best friend so much pain? I really am not sure how I feel about all of this, but it all needs to happen quickly so I guess I will work out how I really feel once everything is settled. First order of business is that Dave wants to go see Alpha Sven, he needs to talk with him, I think he wants to give Alpha Sven a chance to change his mind. Poor Dave is doubting whether he is the right choice and I think the only way he will trust this decision right now is if Alpha Sven assures him, face to face. Personally I think he is the best option, Dave is an amazing Beta and he will be an even better Alpha. Don't get me wrong, he is my twin and has done his share of driving me crazy over the years, but I love him more than anything. We have never been apart, anywhere he goes, I have always followed, so naturally, if he goes to Twin Lakes, so do I.
We discovered pretty quickly that we didn't need to practise to keep our mindlinks private, maybe it is a twin thing, we are closer than others and have always been able to read each other easily, so private mindlink comes quite naturally to us. However, blocking the link between us is still a struggle at times, right now seems to be one of those times. I can hear all the doubts and fears Dave is currently feeling. He is terrified, terrified he won't be able to manage a pack, terrified the pack will reject him, terrified that by accepting the position he will lose his friends, but beneath all that noise there is something else, something that proves to me how very great he will be as an Alpha. Even through his panic he is making plans, he is already thinking as a leader, deciding what needs to be done to build up the pack again.
When we got to the hospital we asked which room Alpha sven was in and we were escorted by one of the nurses to the room usually reserved for ranked members, which makes sense, it is nicely decorated and the farthest point away from the where the freshly injured are taken. Dave knocks on the door and we wait hoping we aren't disturbing him. The door opens to reveal a nurse carrying a tray with food on it, she looks flustered and hurries past us with a very slight bob of a curtsy to Dave and she scurries away, quickly rounding the corner and disappearing from sight. We step into the room sharing a glance before our eyes settle on the Alpha in the bed before us. I am immediately able to see what caused the poor nurse to react the way she did, Alpha Sven may be dying after losing his mate, but his topless torso is still a very impressive sight to see, the poor nurse was probably overwhelmed.
