Chapter 65 - Alpha Dave

**Daisy** -

Alpha Sven was propped up on the hospital bed with a multitude of pillows behind him, his colour looked better though he was still obviously dying. Dave and I approached the bed and took the 2 seats placed next to him. Instinctively I took his hand in mine and received a grateful smile in return, his hand was cold, clumsy and limp in mine, it brought tears to my eyes to see someone who was so obviously once a very powerful Alpha brought to this because of somebody else's actions. Actions taken specifically to weaken him rather than end him.

"Alpha Sven," Dave starts almost straight away, unable to hold off, "Alpha Jack has spoken with us about your plans, are you sure I am what is best for your pack? I would hate to disappoint you."

"You will.make a fine Alpha, Dave, I see it, the belief and knowledge in right and wrong, I see in you what I see in Alpha Jack, I trust you will bring greatness to Twin Lakes, I am sure of it," he pauses here to catch his breath but as we can see he is not finished we do not speak, we wait, "if however you do not want it, please do not accept it, only someone who wants the position should accept."

"I will accept, Alpha Sven, I will accept and I will work tirelessly to prove I am worthy of the trust you have placed in me," vows my twin.

"Then let us get it done, I wish to join my beloved in the hereafter," he pauses again and the gravity of the situation seems to settle about the room.

"I, Alpha Sven of Twin Lakes Pack, hereby relinquish my Alpha aura, I bestow my goddess given gift unto Beta Dave, currently of the Rival River Pack, in him I trust."

"I, Beta Dave of Rival River Pack, accept the goddess given gift of the Alpha aura for Twin Lakes Pack and swear to you, Alpha Sven, that I will work tirelessly for the good of all those in the pack to the best of my ability."

"It is done, thank you, son, knowing you will be there for our pack allows me an immeasurable amount of peace as I depart this plain and join my Lily," Alpha Sven seems to sink in on himself slightly but remains conscious, "do what you must to get the pack in order, Alpha Dave, Ace, Maddie and her father will need to be handled quickly, the rest of the pack's behaviour will be judged by you and yours, you will need to act hastily and ensure your decisions are just for all."

We leave the room shortly after and see Dr Thorne standing in the hallway outside, he clearly heard everything but did not interrupt.

"Alpha Dave, congratulations, a worthy candidate I am sure," he bows his head slightly in submission as he speaks, "Alpha Jack told me of Alpha Svens decision and I have to say I agree with him, you will make a fine Alpha, I hope you will understand however, I have decided to stay here, I wish to be close to Cassie, but I will be available to you anytime you wish."

"Of course Dr Thorne, thank you for your kind words, I may call upon you before long, I would appreciate your guidance regarding punishments, you were a witness to some of the crimes so your input would be priceless," Dave speaks, understanding floods our link, Cassie has that effect on people.

"Absolutely Alpha Dave, it would be my honour to assist you in any way I can, now I must check on my patient if you don't mind?"

"Of course, please let me know when he passes, I wish to return him to his home for a proper goodbye for his people."

"Thank you, that would be wonderful, I will.let him know your plans. Good night Alpha."

"Goodnight, Dr Thorne, I will speak to you soon, and please know you will always be welcome in Twin Lakes should you ever wish to return, even if only for a visit."

We leave the doctor then, heading outside.

"So, Alpha… Do I have to call you Alpha now?" I ask with a grin, Dave rolls his eyes at me and says.

"Come on brat, let's go pack, then get some rest, we need to get moving at first light, there is much to do, first order of business is to strip Ace of his aura so I can give it to you, then we can make him, that Maddie chicken and her dad, pay for all they have done not just to Cassie but to the previous Luna as well."

"Aye, aye captain Dave," I reply cheekily punching him on the shoulder playfully, but I do understand his need for action so we head back to the pack house and go straight for our rooms. Since we are going to be allies with Jack, we don't need to pack up everything, just essentials for now, clothes, toiletries, some pictures maybe, then I am supposed to rest, but I am so wired that sleep is impossible, I end up packing up most of the things in my room into suitcases I had under my bed. The things I can't pack are all organised into groups depending on size, weight and their value to me. I'm just considering heading to the kitchen for something warm to drink when I hear a knock on the main door to our suite. Checking the time I see it is 3am, the only reason anyone would be here at this time would be due to a border breach so I head out quickly to see what I can do to help.

Dave beats me to the door and I listen from a distance, it isn't a breach, it's a nurse, breathing heavily as she tells my brother that Alpha Sven is close to dying and wants to speak with him one last time. Dave doesn't even hesitate, he leaves immediately, walking quickly and linking with me to let me know where he is going.

**Dave** -

As soon as I finished accepting the position of Alpha from Alpha Sven, I felt the power surge through me like a current. It was so powerful it almost brought me to my knees, I only managed to remain standing due to sheer stubbornness. We left Alpha Sven shortly afterwards as I could see he was fighting sleep because we were there. Outside the hospital room we ran into Dr Thorne who told me he agreed with Alpha Sven and thought I would make a great Alpha, I guess we will have to wait and see, but I just hope I don't fail them or the pack.

Daisy gives me some stick on the way back to the pack house but I know she is thrilled for me and believes in me, I can feel it through our link.

My mind has been racing ever since Jack told me of Aloha Svens idea but now it is strangely calm, I know what I need to do and how I intend to do it. First order of business is to pack up some essentials and get over there. The whole pack will know that they have a new Alpha, they will have sensed the shift in power when I did, so I need to get there at first light to meet everyone, not to mention to ensure those who have betrayed the pack are apprehended before they have a chance to escape.

At 3 am a nurse comes to me, telling me Alpha Sven wants to speak to me one last time, so I hasten over there asking Daisy to gather my things and get the car loaded so we can head out as soon as I am done.

Entering the hospital room, you can feel the weight of death hanging in the shadows waiting for the former Alpha to take his final breath, he is still propped on a mountain of pillows and he beckons me forward with a wave of his hand until I am right beside him.

"Alpha Dave, I needed to speak with you privately for a moment," he glances around the room and all the nurses and Dr Thorne head for the door immediately, "I know of the gifts bestowed upon you and the others by the goddess," I stare at him, shocked, we haven't told anybody, not even Brian yet.”
