Chapter 8
Amelia's POV.
“Well, I would feed my husband on a normal day; my mind was only disorganized by so many things I had to attend to; that was why the cold-food hot-food thing skipped my mind. You judge me just because of that little mistake, you could do the same after all if you were in my shoes. I was only trying to do what is best for the pack”. Bella claimed after some seconds of hesitation, faking being concerned about the Alpha and the pack.
I knew it was all pretend; I didn't need a seer to tell me that, as I could vividly read the handwriting on the wall. She must have mustered some idea to defend herself cleverlyettod not look let her virtues to the mud. A virtue I know very much that she had none.
I decided to ignore her claims and not ponder deeper into her sins; that would only waste my precious time, and I have no time for that; she can deal with her demon later on if she wishes to; I'm only here to get my job done and get my target archived.
I looked away, focusing my attention on the Alpha, without any word of response to her claims. She also refocused her attention on the Alpha and continued feeding him, this time around, in a better way after she told me that I was not going to give her any further response to her claims.
She looked displeased by my attitude towards her, but she tried her best to keep a calm demeanor; I was glad she did put on her best behavior because I didn't even care how she felt about my attitude towards her just now.
After a while, a middle-aged woman walked into the Alpha's room with Freya, who had accompanied her to the room. Seeing the woman, my mind quickly went back to some memories about the woman in the past; I recalled her as no other person other than the same Magdalene, the same renowned physician in the entire pack.
Healer Magdalene is known for her great skills in healing; she is the best at what she does, and she has made a respectable reputation in the pack. I could remember some time ago how Freya was eager to train under her, she was so obsessed about it that she kept on pestering the lady about it every given day.
Finally, when she gave a response about Fretorequests, it was more than a disappointment to her because she did not just turn her request down, but she also told her that she was not up to the task.
Freya tried everything possible to make the woman accept her, putting up her best skills and her best behaviors each time she saw the woman, and even went ahead to ask her mother and our father to talk to the healer on her behalf, yet all her efforts were futile as the healer kept rejecting her with the reason that she is not worthy.
I wondered if she still kept to her decision after Freya became the next Luna or if she finally succumbed to the royal influence. I met Freya. She might not have given up on that quest; she is the way that would always do anything to get what she wanted, even if it meant going the extra mile.
I did not really understand the reason behind the healer's constant rejection of Freya as her apprentice and why she tagged her as unworthy until after the dreadful experiences I encountered in Freya's hands, I could now understand why she kept on rejecting her.
Freya is evil, and she has seen that before now; I believe that played a part in her constant rejection of her requests. I quickly dismissed the thought and refocused my attention on the present. Luna Bella stood up from her seat as Freya and the lady walked into the room.
“This is Magdalene, one of the pack's renowned physicians. She would be assisting you in every necessary assistance you would need,” Luna Bella introduced the woman to me.
“You are welcome, Magdalene. May we proceed?” I said to the woman, feigning to have met her for the first time.
“Of course,” I said and nodded with a mild smile before we headed for the room, which had been prepared specifically for the preparation of portions and pills, just like I had requested earlier.
We halted in front of the room and I made way for Magdalene to step into the room first before I could follow. Just after I stepped into the room, Freya quickly followed. She wanted to follow us into the room, but I stopped her immediately.
“You can't follow us into the room,” I said to her, making her halt her steps.
“But why? I could help out in making the potions”. She stated, digging her eyes here and there as she tried to get a glimpse of what was inside the room.
“Any prior knowledge on how to create potions or pills?” I questioned her, knowing pretty well that she had none.
“Know I don't, b–but I can help in getting things ready; you–you can instruct me on what to do,” she argued, trying her best to convince me, but that only makes me despise her the more, seeing how desperate she could be.
“That will not be necessary; I will not be needing your help since you would not be able to render any useful help,” I said and dismissed her before shutting the door behind me.
Inwardly, I felt satisfied for indirectly making her realize how useless she is to me; that will also make her know that she is worthless. I was certain she would feel upset about my words and attitude toward her; it was written all over her.
I could tell from her facial expression alone after getting my response that she looked disappointed and broken, and I'm sure she would hate me for trashing that last statement to her, but I don't care; that was the goal after all.
*******
Back in the room, there are several bottles and some wooden boxes containing several different herbs, such as dried leaves, dried plants, and different species of roots.
They were all already set on a long table in the middle of the room, with several other utensils that we would be using for the preparation of the potions and pills. There were also two small local cookers placed at each end of the table, specifically meant for the preparation of the herbs.
I was satisfied to see that everything was made available and ready to be utilized, it will make the work easier for me.
“shall we?” Magdalene said with a smile, and I nodded gently.
“You will have to sit back and wait for me; I will call on for your help when I need one,” I said gently to her.
“Very well then, I will just watch,” she said and stepped back a bit, giving room for me to take over the entire thing.
I walked over to the table and began to prepare the portions and pills. I gracefully melt and boil the necessary roots, mixing each one up with the leave and plant that is suitable for it. I paid delicate attention to each and every step I took, making sure I was taking the right ingredients for each medicine I was making, and in no time, I was almost done preparing all the necessary portions that I would be needing. My attention was so enveloped by what I was doing to the point that I totally forgot that I was not alone in the room.
“My goodness, I'm so sorry I forgot to engage you in what I was doing?” I apologized to Magdalene. I felt bad I ignored her all these while, and I hoped she would understand that it was not intentional, but only see that I was carried away.
“No, no, that is okay; I'm okay, my dear. I'm impressed to see such a skillful younger healer like you. I must say I'm honored to witness such a great skill,” she commented with a broad smile.
“Thanks, ma'am; it is my honor to be assisted by such a great physician like you. I have heard a lot about it, and I must commend that you are blessed by the goddess herself,” I said and smiled back.
“Thank you, my dear.” She smiled. “Is everything ready?” She asked gesturing at the portions I had prepared.
“Yes, yes, everything is ready,” I replied, moving my attention back to the portions I had prepared.
“Very well then, you did a great job”. She said.
