Chapter 7

Amelia's POV.

I decided to go check up on Alpha Dorovan after breakfast that morning; I wanted to know the state of his illness that evening since I would be commending the treatment very soon. I also needed to examine his body again to observe the depth of the illness. I felt like there were more things I needed to find out about the disease, but I was not able to take a proper look at him.

Now that he is alone, it will be more convenient for me to make my observations, and whatever decision I make could be of great importance when I choose the right herbs I use to prepare some portions for him. Kaiden had wanted to accompany me to make sure I was protected, but I dismissed him, assuring him that I would do just fine going alone.

Just as I walked into the passage leading to Alpha Dorovan's room, I was greeted by the presence of Luna Bella, who also happened to be heading the same way as I was. She looked surprised and a bit startled when she saw me, more like she wasn't expecting to see me, but I didn't say a word to her.

“It's quite surprising to see that we both are heading to see the Alpha at the same time,” Luna Bella stated, faking a smile, but I left her statement unattended with no response.

“How do you see your stay here? Hope it is worth it?” She asked a few minutes later when she did not get any response on her first statement. I knew she was just looking for a means to engage me in a conversation with her, and I'm certain that wouldn't be without negative intent.

I knew she must be up to something, probably wanting to get some words out of me, but unfortunately for her, she was making the wrong move because I already knew what she was capable of, and I had no time for such unproductive engagements. I ignored her question, maintaining my attention on where I was heading to —Dorovan's room.

I bet she must be embarrassed for not getting any response from me, but do I look like I really cared? I was glad and satisfied to have greeted her with such silence; perhaps she wouldn't try to stir up a conversation with me some other time if she bumped into me.

Sooner than later, we arrived at Alpha Dorovan's room. I slowed my steps, allowing her to go in first before stepping in after her. My eyes immediately went to the Alpha who was still lying lifeless on the bed, with his breath barely noticeable.  I took a step closer to him and held his hand to check his pulse. After a cogent observation, I gently placed his hand back on his side of the bed before turning to Luna Bella, who was intently staring at me.

“Has he had breakfast this morning?” I asked Luna Bella.

My question just now seemed to have thrown her off balance as she stuttered, searching for the best response to give me. Her action just now made me realize that something is not right.

I had noticed that the old man had not been fed that morning. After checking his pulse, I decided to ask to be sure that the weakness was not just the illness, and I turned out to be right; he had been properly taken care of, and that was also playing a part in worsening his condition.

“Umm… I…I was carried away by the pack's affairs that needed my attention, I totally forgot to check if he had been fed this morning.” She stuttered awkwardly.

Her response made me realize how irresponsible she was. How can Luna claim to have forgotten to check on her husband, who is in bad condition, with the excuse that she was attending to the pack's affairs when she has a son who is also the Alpha of the pack? What was he doing? What sort of silly excuse could this be?

I mean, that was the height of irresponsible response I have ever gotten, and I wondered if she had listened to herself before uttering those words; perhaps she didn't; was in haste to lie after all, and this was the best lie in her head that she was able to lay her hands on.

Obviously, she is not as smart as she had always appeared to be; she could be fast enough to think evil about someone but could not be fast enough to think of a good response that could protect her dignity.

‘Huh, I was carried away by the pack's affairs’ I scuffed and rolled my eyes inwardly at her words. I clearly knew it was a lie, but I decided not to further into that.

“Get him a lit dish, more vegetables, and some fruits. That should be what he will be taking from now onwards”. I instructed her.

“Will do just that” she replied before turning to one of the maids standing close to the door.

“Go to the kitchen and tell the chef to prepare that she just stated for the Alpha, and it should be brought here at once,” Bella instructed one of the maids, who bowed in respect and left for the kitchen.

“I will also be needing a room where I can prepare some portions and pills for the Alpha's treatment. Also, invite a physician; I will be needing some assistance, and a physician will do just fine for that,” I said to Luna Bella after she had sent one of the maids to go get the Alpha's meal.

“Very well then, that will be done right away”. She replied and turned to the two guards who were in charge of the Alpha's chamber and instructed them to do just as I had said. They both bowed in unison and left to carry out the instructions I had given.

“They are on it already,” she said calmly but got no response from me.

Just then, the maid that had left earlier to get the Alpha's meal returned with a tray of food. She walked into the room, gently placed the tray on the side table close to the Alpha's bed, and gently opened it to feed the old man.

Just as she was about to scoop the first spoon into his mouth, Luna Bella stepped forward and quickly took the dish from the maid and started to reprimand the maid.

“When did this start? Who asked you to feed the king? Do you even know how to feed him? Or do you just want to make a mess of my husband? Get out of that chair and don't try this again” she scolded the maid.

“I'm sorry, my queen,” the maid said apologetically and stepped back.

Her action just now sent a gust of fury into my mind; I knew she had never fed the Alpha for once, but she really needed to put all that up just to look like she cared, making the poor maid look stupid. I decided to wash her dirty liner right before the same made and rub the dirt right on her face by using her own tricks on her.

“If the Alpha's intelligent Luna had been the one taking the task of feeding him, perhaps she should have noticed that the old man is not used to taking hot food,” I said sarcastically.

She turned and looked at me in awe as she realized that she had just made a full of herself. She awkwardly dropped the plate of food on the tray, trying to clean up her mess.
