Chapter 19
Amelia’s POV
The air around the dining room was thick with tension as I hesitated, my eyes locked on Kaiden’s. I knew I had to come up with a convincing story, a story that would throw Luna Bella and the rest off their rail.
“I’m glad we are finally getting to know each other,” a smile spread across her face.
“Yeah. Me too.” I replied, trying to sound casual.
“Tell me more about yourself, Maya.” She continued as her curious gaze bore into mine, I knew I had to think fast.
“Well I don't have much to say about myself.” I began. A war broke out between my pack and a neighboring pack when I was young, I lost my family during the war. I was all alone after my parent's demise, a few years after I discovered that I had inherited my mother’s healing ability. She was a powerful healer before her death.”
The words rolled out of my tongue like I had rehearsed them before I came to the dining room. I raised my head and looked at Luna Bella, she looked convinced by the story I made. The room was silent for a while, I looked at Kaiden whose facial expression was blank.
“Sorry about that.” Luna Bella said, breaking the silence. “I mean for losing your parents at an early age, I didn't mean to bring back old memories,” she added, her voice laced with empathy.
“It's okay. I’ve grown past the pains.” I replied as I smiled behind my veil.
“Why have you refused to reveal your face? I really want to see the beautiful face behind that veil.” Luna Bella inquired, as she looked at me, her gaze intense. Freya smiled immediately when she heard Luna Bella inquire about my veil.
“It's a personal reason that I’d love not to talk about.” I replied sharply with a straight face. I looked at her Freya, disappointment was etched on her face.
“So, you will continue to cover your face for the rest of your life?” Freya asked rudely.
“That's left for me to decide.” I replied briskly with a calm voice, as I smiled internally.
“What's your relationship with him?” Kaiden asked, his eyes sparked with curiosity as he pointed his finger at Kaiden. He was silent all through my conversation with Luna Bella. I grabbed the cup of water on the table and gulped down the water slowly as I looked at Kaiden with my side eye unsure how to answer the question Kaiden asked.
“I’m curious as well. What exactly is your relationship with him?” Luna Bella chipped in, her tone laced with curiosity as she rested her back on the chair and crossed her arms across her chest.
I choked from the water I was drinking as I heard Luna Bella repeated the same question that Kaiden had asked. I dropped my fork on the food as I clenched my fist and gritted my teeth, my heart raced wildly. I was infuriated at the way they kept prying into my personal life, but I tried my best to calm myself down.
“She is my lover. I mean My Luna-to-be.” Kaiden interjected as he looked at me, his tone laced with authority. The room fell silent like I had been punched in my gut as my heartbeat elevated. ‘Did Kaiden just call his lover and his Luna-to-be?’ I thought to myself, a wave of excitement spread across my face.
His answer caught me off guard, I didn't expect him to say it that easily. It was as though he had noticed that I was getting infuriated and he decided to step in. I smiled internally, glad at how Kaiden stepped in for me. I knew Kaiden was just trying to help me relieve the burden of the question.
I glanced at the room taking in everyone's reaction to what Kiaden said. I watched Damien as his facial expression changed, disappointment was clearly written on his face. ‘You are going to be more disappointed when you find who I actually am’ I thought to myself as I took the last gulp of water and placed the cup on the table.
Freya heaved a sigh of relief, a wicked smile played across her lips as she looked at Damien—she also noticed the disappointment on his face. She was glad that he was finally going to stay away from me, little did she know that I had designed other plans on how I was going to punish her. I planned to make Kaiden betray her just like the way he did to me—she had to feel that pain of being betrayed by someone you had trusted and loved.
‘This is just the beginning, Freya, you have no idea what’s going on.” I thought to myself with a wicked smile on my face.I knew Damien could never take his eyes off me, even though he knew that I was Kaiden’s lover. He was a promiscuous asshole. Bella's eyes glistened with amusement as she turned to Kaiden whose attention was on the food he was eating.
"You're lucky to have someone as competent as Maya by your side," she said, her voice dripping with sincerity. “You should be grateful to the moon goddess for that. You were given a good partner, instead of a leech, I mean” she said to Kaiden with a wry smile on her face, she stared at Freya intensely. She shifted her gaze back to the plate of food in front of her, she played with her fork on the food and the clinking sound of the fork filled the room.
I quickly understood that she was referring to Freya as a Leech. My gaze drifted across the room, locking onto Freya. The tension was palpable, and Kaiden's eyes narrowed, sensing the unspoken tension in the room.Freya's face flushed, her eyes flashing with anger, but she remained silent, her lips pressed into a tight line and her gaze fixated on the food she was eating.
I had suspected that Luna Bella and Freya didn’t seem to be on good terms , and Luna Bella’s actions confirmed my suspicions—the relationship between them didn't seem to be as straightforward as I had thought. I was glad that I wasn’t the only one that held a grudge with Amelia.
Kaiden didn’t say a word, it was as though he was already aware that Freya and her mum weren’t close. I smiled behind my veil as I thought about a plan. It occurred to me that I could have Luna Bella on my side whilst taking my revenge on her.
I planned to form a close relationship with Luna Bella, it would be another way to hurt Freya. She would be very hurt once she noticed that I had become closer to Luna Bella than her. I planned to make sure she suffered and regretted all her actions.
I’d make the palace unbearable for her.No single person who had caused me pain in Bloodmoon would be left out, I planned to make them pay for their sins. I needed to start with Freya and Kaiden first, I smiled inwardly when I remembered how I had planned to punish Freya. She and Damien would be on their knees begging for my mercy.
