Chapter 18

Amelia’s POV

As I rolled over in my bed in the silence of the room, I couldn’t help but think about the recent days. Kaiden had left just for a day, yet it seemed like I had not seen him for years. As I desperately awaited his return, I realized how much I had missed his presence. 

Suddenly, a soft knock at the door interrupted my thoughts. I stood up from the bed as I wondered who could be knocking at my door that late at night. I walked stealthily to the door as I prayed that it should not be Damien at the door again. I prayed to the moon goddess silently that it should be Kaiden who was knocking at the door.  

As I turned the doorknob and opened the door, I was shocked and happy at the same time to see Kaiden standing at the door. He pulled me into a tight hug as he entered the room. I was very excited to see him again, he looked very excited to see me as well. It was as if he had come to my room straight from his journey.

The sweat that dripped from his body soaked my clothes, but I didn’t mind. His arms felt like heaven for me; I never wanted to let go of him; I felt like remaining in that position forever. I had missed his touch, I could hear his heartbeat as I rested my head on his chest.  

“I have missed you, Amelia.” He said gently as he finally released me from the hug, and held my hands. I looked up at his beautiful eyes, my love for him seemed to grow stronger every time I looked at his eyes. He was all I ever needed in my life, my world seemed incomplete without him.

“I have missed you too, Kaiden,” I replied as I pulled him into a hug once again, I ran my fingers through his hair, and my heart beat faster than usual. 

“What have you been up to since I left? Hope you were not stressed by Damien, that asshole?” He inquired as I pulled him out of the hug. 

A sly smile played on my lips as we walked towards the bed. The bed squeaked as Kaiden threw himself on it, he was exhausted from the journey yet he came straight to my room. 

“How did your journey go? How is everything going in the pack?” I asked as I flexed my arm and rested my elbow on the bed supporting my cheeks with my palms.

“The journey was perfect, I’m just a little bit stressed out. Also, the pack members are doing perfectly fine.” He answered as he lay on the bed facing the ceiling. 

“How about you? What happened in my absence?” He inquired as he rolled over his side and faced me. 

“Nothing much” I replied as I shrugged my shoulders. 

I had a lot to say to Kaiden; I wanted to let him know that I had feelings for him, that I felt the same way he felt for me, but I was afraid to express my feelings. I was sure he also had a lot he wanted to say to me, it was obvious that we were both in love with each other. 

I watched him closely in silence as I observed every angle on his beautiful face, I felt at ease and peace just having him by my side. A gentle knock sounded on the door interrupting the silence in the room, I wondered who interrupted the blissful moment I had prayed silently to last forever.

I stood up reluctantly to open the door. As I opened the door and popped my head outside, a maid was standing by the door.

“I came to inform you that dinner is ready ma’am,” she said quickly before I could utter a word. 

“Okay. Thank you.” I muttered as I closed the door behind me. 

I informed Kaiden that we had been invited for dinner at the dining table. He held my two hands as I pulled him up from the bed, and we walked out of the room. I walked side by side with Kaiden as we strode the long hallway that led to the dining room. 

Just then, I saw Damien and Freya as they headed out of their room. They were also on their way to the dining room. Damien tried hard to increase his pace, it was as though he didn't want to walk with Freya but Freya desperately wanted to walk by his side. 

Immediately Freya set her eyes on me, she quickly grabbed Damien’s hand forcefully and clasped her hand over his. It was obvious that she was trying to make me jealous that she held hands with Damien. I was not moved at all, I couldn't believe she thought I had eyes for him. I was just trying to get close to Damien for the sake of my revenge. 

I was speechless and annoyed as they walked in front of us, Freya had a sly smile on her face. I clenched my fist and gritted my teeth as I tried to suppress my anger. I ignored them as we walked past them without uttering a word. 

Luna Bella was already waiting for us as we entered the dining room. Kaiden drew out a chair and positioned it perfectly for me to sit on, I smiled at him as I sat down, whilst he sat next to me. Freya and Damien sat on the chairs facing us, I could see anger etched on her face. She had expected Damien to do the same for her. 

The maid served the food onto our various plates and we began to eat in silence. I noticed Luna Bella’s stare on me and I looked up to her and our gaze met. She suddenly dropped her fork and gulped some water from the cup placed on the dining table before she broke the silence with a question. 

“We have been living together for some weeks now, yet I don’t know any personal information about you.” She said as she dropped the cup she was holding on the table. “Would you mind telling me about yourself, miss?” She asked calmly. 

I noticed Freya staring at me with a grin on her face. It was as though she was happy that she could finally hear the information she had desperately wanted to know about me. 

“What would you love to know about me, my lady?” I asked with a smile on my face. 

“Everything. Starting from your name, I don't even know your name, miss” she countered as she let out a soft laugh. My gaze and Kaiden’s met as if we wanted to pass a message to each other.

“Oh. Right. My name is Maya” I lied, my facial expression blank. 

“Wow! You have got a nice name for someone as powerful as you are, Miss Maya” she flattered. “Your pack is blessed to have a powerful healer like you.” She commented. 

I smiled without uttering a word, my gaze was still fixed on my food. 

“I’d love it if Miss Maya would remain in our pack,”  Damien chipped in.

Kaiden shot him a look, it was as though he wanted to tear him apart for mentioning that I remained in their pack after healing Alpha Donovan.
