Chapter 10

After Amelia had left with Kaiden, Damien retreated to his study room where he’d fallen in deep thought about the mysterious healer. He didn’t know her name and he hadn’t even seen past her eyes- oh those beautiful brown eyes, luscious like freshly made honey.

No matter how much he tried, he couldn’t banish them from his mind. It wasn’t just their striking colour, but the depth of strength and intelligence that both intrigued and unsettled him. Her eyes had mesmerized him from the moment he saw her and the more he got to be around her, the more captivating she became.

She was mysterious, igniting a spark of curiosity within him. And gosh, those curves…. She was always dressed modestly but the way her curves swayed with every step was beginning to drive him mad. Coupled with all this, she was competent, unlike Freya who seemed to be making an effort to embarrass him at every turn.

He thought back to the dinner they had, where Freya had pushed too far and this mysterious lady had embarrassed her with such grace that he couldn’t help but be impressed. Of course Freya’s actions had disgraced him, as she was the one he’d chosen to be his wife and she continued to embarrass even more. In comparison, Freya now seemed frivolous, her presence merely a source of chaos rather than substance

When the pack’s physician, Magdalene had praised the healer, Freya had been so consumed by jealousy that she started running her mouth once more. He was becoming irritated by her more and more everyday while his interest in this mystery lady grew ceaselessly. This woman was something different, he was certain of it.

The urge to know more about her throbbed continuously at his core and he straightened in his fur covered chair, the soft material suddenly feeling too hot against the burn of his curiosity. Just then, his beta, Jasper opened his mahogany door with a creek, bowing slightly before closing the door behind him.

“My lord.” He greeted and Damien nodded absent mindedly, his thoughts still the centre of his attention as he gestured for Jasper to take a seat.

“Alpha?” Jasper called out, snapping him out of his thoughts and that was when he realized Jasper must’ve been saying something.

“Sorry, I’m a little distracted. What did you say?”

“I said I couldn’t find any information on the healer. Not even a name. It’s almost like she appeared out of thin air.” Jasper complained, feeling frustrated at his lack of productivity and the frown etched on Damien’s face showed how dissatisfied the revelation left him.

“How can that be?” Damien voiced, a deep scowl settling heavily on his features. He shifted on his chair uncomfortably, his confusion a thorn tearing at his flesh.

“I really don’t know boss. I find it weird too. The only thing I could find out is basically what we already know. That she’s from the Silvermoon pack and that she’s the pack’s major physician who can heal people with a single touch.” Jasper said whilst the frown on Damien’s face deepened.

“That’s general information. See if you can get any more, don’t stop until you find something.” He instructed and Jasper nodded, his brows set straight in determination.

“What about the specific thing I asked you to find out?”

“You mean if there’s any relationship between Alpha Kaiden and this woman?” Jasper asked and Damien nodded, doing his best to keep his interest masked, although he doubted it mattered. The question would definitely raise Jasper’s suspicions but he couldn’t care enough to hide his curiosity.

“No, my lord. I was able to confirm that there’s none.” Jasper answered and an unexplainable joy filled his heart. He struggled to keep his smile at bay, wondering what would happen if he made a move at her. He’d been cautious before, in case Kaiden and this woman had something but now that he know that they didn’t, numerous thoughts filled his head.

He struggled to hold his smile back, his thoughts filling with images that had blood, hot and ravaging, rushing through his veins. He wondered how it would feel to grab a hold of those curves. How soft would she be against the hardness of his body? He salivated at the vivid pictures in his mind. Unable to hold his excitement any more, he called one of the maids into the study room.

“Yes, my lord?” The short girl with round cheeks and wide eyes answered as she made her way to his vast desk, bowing a little to show respect to his beta who gave her a nod of acknowledgement and a small smile in return.

“Do you know the healer who came here from the Silvermoon pack to heal Alpha Donovan?” Damien asked her and she nodded immediately, bobbing her head up and down like a chinese doll. Jasper peeked at her from the corner of his eyes, a small laugh bubbling up in his chest and her cheeks coloured pink.

Damien ignored the interaction, the only thought in his head revolved around honey coloured eyes and soft curves.

“Tell her Alpha Damien requests to see her at once.” Damien instructed and she nodded, scurrying along to deliver the message. Damien sat back in his chair, a small smile playing on his lips. Jasper eyed him, his gaze filled with suspicion as he bit his lip, not even noticing that Jasper’s eyes were on him.

Jasper cleared his throat, trying to get Damien’s attention but his eyes stayed clouded, still deep in thought.

“My lord” Jasper called out, snapping his fingers and finally, Damien’s eyes fell on him with surprise evident on his features.

“What has you so deep in thought?” Jasper inquired but Damien shrugged, claiming it was nothing. Jasper trudged further, unable to hide his confusion about his master’s motives. Damien was showing a whole lot of interest in the healer and at first Jasper had thought he only wanted to know the identity of the person who was supposed to save his father’s life. But now, that seemed to not be the case.

“Forgive my asking, but what exactly are you up to my lord?” Jasper asked in a respectful tone and Damien smiled coyly, shaking his head.

“Well aren’t you nosy today? What is it, are you jealous?” Damien replied playfully and Jasper smiled despite himself, shaking his head at his master’s reply.

“Very funny.”

“Thank you.” Damien replied, his eyes still squinted from his throaty laughter.

“But really though? What’s with the sudden interest in this healer?” Jasper inquired again, refusing to let it go until he got an answer from him. Damien sighed, knowing very well Jasper wouldn’t quit until he got a reply and he gave him the most basic and sensible reply he could think of.

“Well, this healer is treating my father. His fate is literally in her hands. I only wish to be acquainted with the young lady.” Jasper remained silent, knowing there was more to the story.

“Also, wouldn’t it be good to form a friendship with her in case we need her help once again? That would be incredibly beneficial for the pack, don’t you think?” Jasper nodded in response, knowing very he wouldn’t be getting more than that half assed explanation but he stayed silent.

Damien smiled to himself, glad to have been rid of Jasper’s scrutiny, for now at least. Anticipation brewed at his core. The thought of being alone with the healer sent bouts of fire into his blood and he could all but bounce his knees up and down in his seat.

Jasper watched him from the corner of his eyes, seeing how he smiled to himself and he hoped in his mind that Damien wouldn’t take any action he would regret in the future.
