Chapter 103
“Baby,” He pressed a mild kiss on the bandage. “The doctor said you had an accident.”
“Y…yes,” Elodre said, still shocked at seeing her husband. Is she dreaming?
“Oh, darling,” His sad gaze wandered all over her. “My baby…” He just wants to hold her, but the cannulas. “H…how did it happen?”
Recollecting the scenario, she burst out crying.
Gasping, Cayden wrapped his arm gently around her, stroking her back. “Oh darling…I know I caused you so…so much pain. I know I hurt you, and I'm so sorry, baby… I…I dunno what got over me, I swear. I never meant t…to hurt you. Never.” He arranged her hair.
She lifted her head from his chest and said, “Af…after y…you kicked us out in…in the storm, R…Raiden went under the weather. As there was n…no money on me, I…I had to follow Justin to Canada…” She told Cayden everything that happened and how she got here.
“Oh my God!” Cayden couldn't help the shock. “Oh, darling…I'm so sorry about that.” Tears had flooded his face as she told him the sad story. He pressed kisses on her face. “I'm sorry, baby…sorry you'd to go through such trauma.”
“Cayden I…I never invited Roberts, I promise,” She broke down in tears and Cayden was curious. “And…I’ve never seen any man. That guy was my masseur. Trust me, he did nothing with me…”
Cayden could see the honesty glowing in her eyes.
“I've never been better,” She sobbed. “I…I was just so insecure and…and needed someone to talk to. I…I was afraid. I've been living with anxiety attacks…and it appeared Roberts was the only one I…I could talk to…so we went to that coffee shop and bumped into Samantha and Jigyasa.”
This surprised Cayden. He was gazing directly into her eyes, searching them.
“And Roberts never said any negative thing about you,” Elodre continued sobbing. “He only en…encouraged me. H…he said you're a man of good reputation and…and everything would be fine.” She sniffled and wept for a while.
Damn! Cayden was so lost. This is so unbelievable! Someone must have taken a picture of them…just to implicate her.
“He was never into me, I promise,” She whimpered. “Never. B…but S…Sam t…took a picture of me…”
Cayden's brows furrowed. “What?! “Samantha did?!”
Elodre nodded. “She confronted me in our room one morning while you were away…”
“What?!” Cayden's eyes widened. “Samantha did what?!”
Elodre explained everything Samantha did that morning in their room and Cayden's left hand clenched in a fist as he was wrapping her with the other. His brows were deeply furrowed and he felt anger rippling inside of him. Damnit!! He cursed savagely beneath his breath. “So she had the fuckin nerve to do that to my wife?! Damn!” He was angry but had to cool off for Elodre's sake. He exhaled and gazed down at her. “Don't worry, darling,” He said softly and kissed her forehead. “I'll make sure I take care of that motherfuckin Justin and Samantha! Damn! Fuckin damnit!” He blew out heavily.
“W…Weston did nothing t…to me,” Elodre's voice was broken.
Cayden sighed. Cupping her face, he just couldn't take his eyes off the marks he'd left on her face…and her puffy left eye. “Baby, what happened to your eye?”
As she blinked, tears spilled on his hand. “You p…punched me.”
A spark twirled down his spine and he shivered for a second as though shocked by electricity. Blinking, he gasped in astonishment. “I…punched you?”
“The night you kicked me out…” She quivered.
With wide eyes, his lip dropped but no word aired out. “H…how d…did I do that, baby?” His voice was more like a whisper. “Was it when I…I was hitting you?” The memory of slapping her on her face flickered in his head and he shut his eyes for a second.
“Yes,” She quivered.
And that melted his heart. “Oh, my love…” He wept. “I…I'm so sorry, baby, I'm sorry… I never meant to do that. I swear…I never realized I was wrong…”
“D…do you believe me now?” Elodre blinked out tears.
“Of course, baby,” Cayden gently held her hands. “I believe everything you said, darling. I believe you.”
“You do?!” Elodre had never been better till today. Curiosity was glowing in her eyes.
“Yes, I do, baby,”
And she cried out for joy. The joy she had never felt for years now.
“It's okay, baby,” He made her lay her head on his chest. Stroking her back, he said, “Don't cry, okay? Don't cry, baby.” He kissed her head. “I'm sorry, darling. I'm so sorry, okay?”
“Since the day I figured I was pregnant, I started having panic attacks…” Elodre told him about the night with Weston. “Even after that, Weston encouraged me to keep the pregnancy.”
“You wanted to abort it?” Cayden asked softly. Imagine aborting his baby. Damn!
“I was afraid and…and n…never wanted you to know about it,” She said.
“Really?”
“Yes,” She said. “I thought it wasn't your baby… that is what had caused me anxiety and insecurity”
“Is that why you cried all the time, darling?” He was gazing down at her.
“Y…yes,”
She wanted to wipe her tears but he gently caught her hand and pressed kisses on her tears. “But why didn't you tell me about that, darling? You carried such a burden by yourself for five years now. That's not healthy for you, baby.”
“I…I…” She railed off.
“You should have told me about your insecurities, baby,” He was stroking her back.
“Y…you were furious at me…s…so,”
“Hey, baby…sweetheart,” Cayden kissed her lips. “I'm sorry that I got so mad at you. That was never my intention… I only misunderstood you. I never knew you were insecure, baby. If you'd told me about it I could've known what to do.”
“I couldn't because I was afraid that Weston had impregnated me,” She sobbed. “So I… I didn't know how to tell you. I was confused ‘cause I didn't recall what really happened that night…and when you got mad and…and started yelling at me…I…” She was whimpering in his arms. “I w…was afraid of losing you.”
Her words went smoothly inside of him to his heart, melting it. Having that sad look, he felt his bones dissolving. “Afraid of losing me, baby? Oh, sweetheart…” He planted kisses on her face and brushed off her tears. She was so soft and pure. He can't imagine losing her. Damn! “So that's how you felt?”
“W…when Jasmine shared her story of being divorced with me, that accelerated my f…fear.”
“Jasmine was divorced?” He raised a brow.
“Her case was quite similar to mine,” Elodre said. “Her husband felt she was cheating but she said she wasn't…regardless, he divorced her.”
He studied her for a while and said, “So you were afraid I'd do the same to you?”
She nodded.
He sighed and placed one hand on his forehead. “But baby you should've called my attention.” His eyes glowing with wholesomeness, he spoke softly. “Even though I was furious, you should have talked to me when I lay on the bed, darling. My ears were open. I would've listened to you. Mentioning your insecurities would have picked my interest, sweetheart, even though I was angry.”
“I'm sorry,” She quivered.
“Oh no baby, do not apologize, okay?” He cuddled her warmly. “You did absolutely nothing wrong. I'm in the wrong here…and I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, baby. Communication is key in any relationship, baby. Never hide things from me for fear or any reason. Baby you should understand my kinda person by now. You know I'm always willing to listen to you…”
“I know,” Elodre said. “The night I attempted talking to you about it…you got mad and hit me.”
That surprised him. God knows he doesn't know when he did that…
