Chapter 102
“Love of my life,” He was caressing her cheeks. “My darling baby.” The sight of her cheekbones gave him heartache. She'd grown so thin and looked sick. How come he never noticed?! “Oh, my sweetheart, I n… never meant to hurt you…never my love. My heartbeat” Sniffling, he gently held her head in his arms as he sat on the hospital colt. His watery gaze was glittering with emotions.
Gazing down at her, he was bestowing kisses on her face. He gently brushed the bandage with his fingers. “Oh, baby…” He quivered.
The door creaked open and Maximilliano walked in with Raiden.
Cayden couldn't take his gaze off his son. His little boy. His sperm. With a bittersweet feeling, he gently dropped Elodre's head on the pillow and got up.
With a jerk, Raiden hid behind Maximiliano, his blue eyes flickering with fright as Cayden approached, and this surprised Cayden. Maximiliano tried to pull him to his dad but Raiden cried.
“Say hi to Dad,” Maximiliano said to Raiden whose tiny hands were clenched onto the doctor's pants.
Gazing down at the bewildered four-year-old, a pang of guilt hit Cayden's face and he reddened. He tried to move as gently as he could while approaching the kid who was frightened of him.
Squatting before Maximiliano he studied the kid closely and smiled even though he was having a clash of two emotions. “My little boy…comm’n… Come to dada…” He stretched his right but Raiden backed away, his eyes wide. Oh damn! Cayden sighed, seeing how his son was afraid of him. This is so horrible. “Comm'n honey, come to me. I ain't gonna hurt you okay?” His voice was so soft.
“I love you, my son,” He said quiveringly, trying his hardest to convince the child. His blue eyes were glowing with regret. “I'm so sorry, okay?”
Raiden was so innocent. He had no clue what was going on. He gazed up at Maximiliano who had been smiling down at him. “Go to daddy. He loves you, okay?”
At this point, Cayden couldn't resist the tears that were rolling down his cheeks. His past actions were hunting and getting the best of him. He felt his body trembling as his bones seemed to be melting. His heart hurt at every beat. Hurt at how horrible he'd been to his kid. How he'd made this little boy so scared that he couldn't even come close to him.
What?!!
And he was never aware?! He was just swamped with resentment that he never even looked at his son?! To the point…of sending him out into that terrible storm?!! How did he?! How did he manage to do that?!! Had he been that furious?!! Damn!! He cursed under his breath. God knows that was never his intention! Never!!
“I'm so sorry, my son…don't be afraid of me, okay? Daddy loves you…”
Maximiliano felt so overwhelmed by the scene that he felt tears stinging his eyes, and when they dropped a smile pulled his lips. Holding Raiden's hand, he placed it in Cayden's…
Sparks traveled through Cayden's nerves as he felt that tiny hand in his. With his gaze fixed on him, he closed Raiden's hand in his and gently pulled him close. Assessing him closely, he noticed how thin and pale Raiden was. Oh, his little boy. He's just so innocent and frightened.
As Cayden raised his hand to arrange Raiden's hair, the kid winced in fright and Cayden paused abruptly upon seeing that. Shock flashed on his face. “Oh sweetheart dad's never gonna hurt you, okay?” Tears were glittering in his eyes. “Just wanna touch you…my little boy. I love you so much, my child…I love you.” Cuddling the fragile kid, he cupped his tiny head with his big hand.
At some point, Raiden got emotional and began to sob in his dad's arms and Cayden pet him, planting kisses on his head.
With an irresistible grin on Maximiliano's face, he brushed his tears with his fingers. He was getting the emotions real good. This was fast-paced and unbelievable. He never expected Cayden to fly to Canada after displaying so much rage. Wow! God knows he never wanted to show Cayden where Elodre was…but well… Here they were.
“Don't worry, Dad will take good care of you, okay?” Cayden said softly to his son. “You'd never hafta go out in a storm anymore okay?”
Raiden nodded innocently.
“Do you love daddy?” He asked the kid who looked quite lost.
“Yes,” Raiden's quiet voice was everything.
And joy beamed on Cayden's face. A wet grin tugged his lips. “And…I…” He was trying his hardest to resist the cry. “I love you more…my boy. I love you so much. I…love you…Oh, God!” Now he realized…he realized how meaningless his life could've been without his little boy.
“Oh no! Please d…do not hurt him…”
Elodre's faint cry vibrated Cayden's eardrums and he froze.
“No, ma'am,” Doctor Maximiliano Lane walked over to Elodre who was bewildered. “Chill out, everything is fine, okay?”
But Elodre's gaze was pinned to Cayden's back in disbelief. What's he doing here?! She'd sat up on the colt, feeling a drastic headache.
Carrying Raiden in his arms, Cayden turned to his wife whose wide eyes were glowing with fear as usual. She was so stiff.
Maximiliano was about to leave the room but Elodre let out a cry. “P…please d… don't leave me here.” She shut her eyes, whimpering.
It struck Cayden so badly to see his wife being afraid of him. She couldn't even trust him?! “You may leave, doctor. We'd be fine, please.”
Watching the doctor leave, Elodre began to tremble. She was whimpering and sniffling.
Cayden studied her for a while, reading her expressions. He noticed her trembling terribly on the colt. Without saying a word he walked out of the room with Raiden, leaving her in perplexion.
The door's creak sent her flinching. Cayden has returned alone.
Now she's alone with him?!!
His gaze was fixed on her and she lowered hers, overwhelmed by his presence. He walked across the room to the colt. Gazing down at her, tears rolled down his cheeks. His lips were too heavy to speak. He seemed to have lost his train of thought. Knowing a slight move would startle her, he said, “Baby, I'm not here to hurt you. Never come here to startle or hit you… I'm never gonna do that, okay?”
Burning tears were welling up in his eyes and he began to quiver. “I…I love you, my love. I care so much about you. You're the only woman I ever love, baby.” His lips were trembling. “Yet…you hid your pain from me?” He sat on the colt and gently lifted her chin with his hand. He was struck by her tenderness. She was so innocent. He sighed. “You've been innocent but never told me, baby? My love… My darling baby.”
“I…I…wanted to…t…tell you,” She sobbed, her eyes blurred with tears. “B…but…”
