Chapter 101

Cold twirled down Cayden’s spine and he shivered. Engulfed in shock, he blinked out tears. Damn! If he'd known he would’ve let the doctor explain himself properly. Now he doesn't even have a clue where the doctor came from. Fuck! He only knows his name is Maximiliano Lane.

Blowing out heavily, Cayden slipped his fingers into his hair and disheveled it restlessly. Oh my fuckin god! What should he do now?! Where should he start?! Damn! He must see his wife! Oh, my love…how’s she faring? How did she even cope with the stress and trauma he'd unknowingly inflicted on her?! Oh, my poor girl!! How did he just get furious at her?! Damn!

Eyes glowing with bewilderment, Cayden got up from his chair and paced around his office in contemplation. His hands were placed on his waist and his white shirt was damp with cold sweat. The whole thing seemed like a dream…but it wasn't!! Oh, fuckin damnit!! Hell!! He was disheveling his hair violently. Damn! Damn! Damn! Fuckin damnit!! Cursing savagely, he was huffing. Oh…Elodre… damn! God knows he will not rest until he figures out where his wife is. God knows he's hurt that innocent woman! She was innocent but he didn't know. He’d hit her countless times…even whipping his own wife with a belt?!

Did he get possessed by a demon or something? It felt like a blindfold had just been taken off from his eyes.

He paused to think about this. He can't believe he could ever lay hands on his wife and make her cry. Cry because of him…because she was innocent and he gave no room for an explanation. He was just so angry! So fuckin angry!! Huffing, he gritted his teeth. His eyes were fierce and bloodshot.

He dashed to his seat and began to solve a puzzle with the pieces of paper ... Hopefully, he'd figure out where the doctor came from. Oh, my wife…my sweetheart. Oh, damn!

Arriving at the hospital Maximiliano couldn't stand Elodre. With Raiden sleeping in his arms, he went straight to his office and called one of the nurses to come carry Raiden.

He heaved a sigh of distress and gazed blankly into space, feeling the voidness of his head. Frustration was written all over him. The shock of encountering Mr. Brooks was still flickering in his eyes. Is that how tough he is? He wondered. He's a very dangerous man then and God knows he can't face him again. Never! Not after Cayden had almost ripped him apart. Hell no!

He sighed.

In a couple of hours, Cayden's private jet arrived in Canada.

The following morning…

At nine o'clock on the nose, doctor Maximiliano was going through a few documents on his laptop when he heard random bangs on the door and he shot a gaze at it. The bangs sounded louder and rough. “Damn, who's it?” He mumbled as he arose from his chair.

He opened the door and shock flashed on his face as cold twirled down his spine upon seeing Cayden. He blinked in astonishment. “M..Mr…”

“Where's my wife?!” He asked impatiently. “I said where's she?!!”

Overwhelmed, Maximiliano could hardly speak. They were both in a suite of rooms…and Max saw Cayden's guards a few distances away. “M..Mr. Brook…”

“Where's she?!” He thundered.

And Max couldn't help but wonder how Cayden got to Canada in a split second. Was he here to…to attack her or what? Damn. The alarm was glowing in his eyes. He sighed as uneasiness swept up his body.

“I wanna see her!” Cayden said roughly. “Take me to her!”

“I…I will…” Stuttering, Maximiliano stepped out of his office and his hands trembled as he shut the door…but Cayden yanked his arm.

Leading the way, Maximiliano was all curious and sweaty. He felt his body throbbing hard. What's Mr. Brooks up to? He wondered in terror.

Placing his trembling hand on the doorknob, he was about to open the door when Cayden forcefully pushed it open, shoving the doctor aside.

What?!!! His eyes widened in alarm. Oh my God!! Oh my God! “Elodre?” He said shakily and ran over to her, his bewildered gaze fixed on the bunch of cannulas inserted in her thin body…then the big bandage wrapped around her head. He assessed her closely. She's lost weight and was now like death warmed up. She was so pale. “Baby? Oh, my darling…what happened?” Tears spilled down his cheeks. Reaching for her hands that were crossed over her flat belly, he gently covered them with his big hand, careful not to hit the cannulas. She was so tender as usual. “Sweetheart…darling…oh my baby.”

Astounded, Maximiliano heaved a quiet sigh of relief. “She'd a fatal accident….”

Cayden shot a surprised gaze at him. “An accident?! Seriously?!”

“Yes,” Doctor Maximiliano couldn't help the relief. “She ran into my car and I…I accidentally knocked her down.”

Cayden gasped and lowered his gaze to her bleak face, his eyes full of regrets and remorse. “Oh, my love…” Kneeling by her side, his body trembled as he wept. “I'm so sorry…I'm sorry…” He gently placed his hand on the bandage…then her cheeks.

She was asleep.

Assessing her closely, Cayden was struck when he noticed the marks he'd left on her face…and something even more terrible. Her left eye! What happened to her eye?!! Why does she have a black puffy eye?! Damn! He never noticed it initially. What the fuck happened?!! Gently, he touched her puffy eyelid and ... .damn! It was so hard and hot. This must hurt pretty badly. “What happened to her eye?” He asked the doctor.

Elodre had told him what happened but no, he would never air that out to Cayden. “Honestly, I saw her that way. I'm pretty sure it wasn't from the accident.”

So…what does that mean? Cayden wondered, still brushing the eye with his fingers. He can't imagine what happened.

“I guess I gotta spare you some privacy with your wife, Mr. Brooks…” Maximiliano said, his heart leaping for joy.

“Where's my son?” His voice was shaky. Tears had flooded his face.

“Oh, I sent him to a playground to hang out with other kids,” Maximiliano said. “But since you're here, I'll bring him over in a couple of minutes.” He left and shut the door mildly.

Cayden turned to Elodre and pressed kisses on her lips and face, all broken in grief. “I…I'm sorry baby… I'm so so sorry darling.” His fingers wandered on the marks on her cheeks. “Oh, my love I…I n…never meant to hurt you. I never in a million years meant t…to lay my hands on you. Never meant to hit you…like I did, my love.” He wept on her face. “Please open your eyes…stay with me, baby. Don't leave me…”
