Chapter 66
“What? You are lying! Grandpa never left a letter behind,” Kaylee shouted as she had a premonition that the letter would ruin her plans.
Hearing her outburst everyone’s eyes were on them while Rhiannon chuckled as she had expected that from the latter.
“Are you sure? Cause your outburst tells us something else,” she said causing Kaylee to glare at her while the other people in the room nodded their heads agreeing with her words.
“I am so sure! Am sure that even Dad didn’t know something like a letter left behind by Grandpa! If he had then the lawyer would have read it when he was reading Grandpa’s will,” Kaylee said coldly without taking her eyes from Rhiannon.
Rhiannon nodded her head when she heard her words. “You got a point there.”
Her words confused everyone. Some wondered whether Rhiannon had the letter or if was she just saying that to ruin Kaylee’s proposal.
This made them angry as they looked at Rhiannon with unfriendly gaze.
Rhiannon saw their looks and sighed. She had initially thought that the Clarks company would be her first company and her starting point but when she thought everything through, she realized that even though the old men and women of the company seemed to support her, they didn’t.
They were just after her success as they knew that she was more talented than Kaylee. She knew that if they were asked, they would choose Kaylee over her. Well, she felt that they already did as they wanted Kaylee to run the company as she was the Clark’s daughter.
“I know that you think that I am lying to you just because I want to be the company’s president but you are wrong. I don’t care about this company anymore as it seems that I am not welcomed,” she said coldly causing those who were initially displeased with her and the others to panic while Kaylee was overjoyed as she knew that if Rhiannon refused the president seat cause of what they had said to her, she would automatically become the president.
“How can you say that?” one of them asked Rhiannon worriedly as he tried to keep his anger in check.
Seeing this, Rhiannon rolled her eyes as she felt that people were so fragile, selfish, and greedy human beings.
“What I mean is the truth. I will first read the short letter that Grandpa left behind. If you doubt me, you can confirm that the words weren’t written today, yesterday this week, or this year. You can do this by looking at the texture of the paper and the ink used,” she said as she got an envelope out of her bag.
Seeing her actions, Kaylee didn’t understand why her heart was beating first as if she was going to lose something so dear to her.
She wanted to say something but knew that if she continued claiming that the letter wasn’t from the old Mr Clark, she would sound ignorant and not understanding and she didn’t want the old displeased.
She opened the envelope which seemed that it had initially been opened and took out a paper.
“I’ll start reading it,” she told them as she unfolded the paper that was inside.
“Hello everyone.
I know that by the time this letter is being read, my granddaughters, Rhiannon and Kaylee are already grown women and it will be years since my passing. I a writing this letter in case a dispute befalls in the company. When I gave all of my shares to Rhiannon, I gave to return her mother’s favor. If it wasn’t for Sabrina, our family would never be considered a rich family. We would never have a company.
She had initially given a lot of shares to us as we were family but she requested that all the shares should be handed to her daughter in the future. I know that my son wouldn’t do that as he loves Kaylee so much thus his shares would be Kaylee’s but mine went to Rhiannon.
I knew even before leaving the shares to Rhiannon that she wasn’t my son’s daughter. She doesn’t have the Clark’s blood flowing in her veins but I don’t care.
I am writing this letter to tell you all that no matter what happens, the company should be in the hands of Rhiannon and she has the right to decide its destiny. The company didn’t belong to the Clarks initially, it belonged to Rhiannon as her mother wanted to build an empire for her child and her future generation.
I hope that the shareholders will support Rhiannon and let her lead them to success.
However, I won’t blame Rhiannon if she wants to sell the company or hand over the leading role after you guys break her trust. Let’s hope for the best.
That’s all I wanted to say. Live a peaceful and happy life with each other.
Yours faithfully.
Benson Clark”
Kaylee glared at Rhiannon as her eyes were full of hatred. She initially had a feeling that whatever the latter was going to read would ruin her plans and hopes but she never expected that her grandfather would still favor Rhiannon despite him knowing that Rhiannon wasn’t her biological granddaughter.
“You can now check the texture and the ink. Also, grandfather had left a signature in the letter thus you can look whether it is really his or was it forged,” Rhiannon said as she handed the letter to the vice president who was seated on her left hand.
The woman took the paper and started going through it before passing it to the others as she didn’t want them to say that she was standing on Rhiannon’s side cause she was the chosen heir by Sabrina and Old Mr Clark.
The letter went around and no one spoke.
Kaylee cussed her grandfather as she wondered why the latter had left a signature on the paper as it would have been better for her if he had not. At the same time, she wondered why her grandfather hated her so much that he couldn’t leave even a single share to her.
Was she inferior to Rhiannon or was it because Rhianon’s mom was so rich that everyone surrounded her?
“It's really true that that old man is the one who left this letter behind,” one of the shareholders said after everyone had gone through it.
“Yes. From the texture to the ink then the signatures, they all prove that it was written years ago and the signature proves that he was the one who wrote it. I still remembered his signature,” another said.
“We are sorry Rhiannon for not trusting your words and making things difficult for you,” another said apologetically making Rhiannon roll her eyes as she hated their behavior so much.
“I am not pleased at all. I am the resident yet you people go behind my back and have a meeting. If I wasn’t informed, wouldn’t I have been thrown out of my seat and position?” she asked coldly causing them to lower their heads.
Kaylee didn’t dare say anything as she knew that old people were currently blaming her for everything in their hearts and she didn’t want them to hate her more than they currently did as she knew that there would be a time she would need their help.
“I am the leader and currently the company’s owner. You guys are just shareholders or should I say I other terms as partners? You are supported to trust me and not be blinded by interest and believe just anyone who comes and tells you something. You guys have disappointed me greatly,” Rhiannon said without hiding her sadness and disappointment.
“I initially thought that of all the companies my mother left me, this would be my home as I grew up coming here and you watched me grow up. Thought that you would support me throughout and trust me and my leadership. However,” Rhiannon stopped talking as she looked at each other one of them.
Kaylee was no longer listening as all that rang in her ears was ‘of all the companies my mother left me.’ She was stunned and then remembered that there was something she never knew about.
She had initially thought that her mother had left her a huge amount and that’s why she decided that it was better to kill her. She regretted her actions. She felt that if she had known that the latter’s mother had opened various companies for her daughter, she would have taken them all before killing Rhiannon.
She looked at Rhiannon as she wondered why she was so lucky to have such a wonderful and rich mother.
“Rhiannon, if your mother really left you other companies, then why can’t you give this one to me?” she asked shamelessly.
“Are you nuts? Why should I? You are just a bastard. A child born by my mother’s husband out of marriage and by another woman. Do you think that I am a fool to let you enjoy my mother’s labor?” Rhiannon asked coldly causing everyone to flinch.
“I can never let you have what you don’t deserve! I better sell it or give it out for charity than give you,” she added as she stared at Kaylee coldly making the latter clench her hands into a fist.
“Now that everything is over and you have all shown me your character and decision. I don’t think that I can work with you. It's either you all sell me your shares or I sell mine to someone else.”
