Chapter 183 Reclaiming an Empire

Chapter 183 Reclaiming an Empire

The morning sun rose beautifully over the horizon, bathing the reborn city of Tenebrous in its warm golden light. The celebrations were over, and everyone was back to their daily routines. The city was healing, and so was Alex–It was time to get back to work.
He was back from the three months of honeymoon adventure with his Luna, and was now silently sitting in his office at the company headquarters. Even his staff had no idea that he was in the building, except Simon who had been running operations. Ravenswood Industries was back in operations, but his businesses had suffered heavy damage from Maverick's evil deeds and the effect of the war.
After a while of contemplation, he poured himself a drink and took the secret door to the roof of the building. Tenebrous spread out below him like a conquered kingdom, but that conquest wasn’t about domination
It was a reclamation.
“You know,” Simon said, coming up behind him with a grin on his face. “There is something poetic about the way you stand up here like a brooding statue.”
Alex chuckled, but he did not turn.
Simon adjusted his cufflinks, the silver ones Avery had given him as a present after his wedding to Melora. “You have been staring at that building for the last half an hour. Are you nervous about something?”
“No,” Alex replied calmly. “Just–finalizing the past.”
Simon chuckled. “We already did that with the investigations I ran before the war. This? This is just the epilogue.”
Alex finally turned to face him with a serious look on his face. “The epilogue is just as important as the climax. It determines if the story will last.”
As they stood there in the silence that followed, they saw a long convoy of cars pulling into the Ravenswood Industries parking lot. A swarm of reporters followed immediately, crowding the barricades, rapidly taking photos and yelling questions that were drowned out by the arrival of security teams and internal staff. The building was instantly alive with activities as former employees, new recruits, media outlets, and corporate spies all waited for a glimpse of the man who had vanished for his honeymoon, and probably returned with a vengeance.
Simon looked at his watch. “It is time boss, let’s not keep them waiting.”
As Alex and Simon walked through the lobby surrounded by guards, employees froze at the sight of him. Some gasped in shock. Some whispered, and others broke into spontaneous applause.
“Mr. Ravenswood,” a young assistant approached hurriedly with a note pad. “Welcome back, sir. The legal and auditing teams are waiting for you in the boardroom.”
“Take us up.” He replied with a confident smile. It was time to know their fate.
The boardroom on the top floor was agog with anxiety and tension. Lawyers, auditors, forensic accountants, and a handful of his weary but loyal board members were gathered, surrounded by crates of documents, hard drives, and digital monitors.
A man in a dark suit stood as Alex entered. “Mr. Ravenswood,” he said in a respectful voice. “We have compiled everything.”
“Thank you, Damian,” Alex replied as he took his place at the head of the long table. Simon sat beside him, grinning mischievously. “Lay it out.”
The lead auditor Damian pointed to the screen. “Over the past ten months, we have managed to trace a lot of financial inconsistencies, contract forgeries, and corporate sabotage all leading back to Maverick Stormbringer. He and the spies he planted here successfully established a wide network of offshore accounts, laundering our company assets through fraudulent corporations and ‘ghost’ employees.”
A series of images lit up the screen–signatures, bank transfers, surveillance footage of Maverick with a forged seal, and him also instructing hackers.
Alex's face twisted into a frown at the sight.
“They intended to collapse Ravenswood Industries and acquire it through proxies once public trust was destroyed,” Damian continued. “And they nearly succeeded.”
“But they did not,” Simon added smoothly. “Thanks to that investigation you ordered, boss.”
One of the lawyers pushed a thick, leather-bound folder forward. “These are certified copies of every transaction we recovered. We also uncovered several private correspondences proving connections between Maverick and the disruption of several of our real estate projects.”
Alex opened the folder slowly, looking through it without emotion. “And the public narrative?”
“A partial report was sent to all major media outlets yesterday morning, sir. The full story will air later this afternoon.”
Simon grinned. “With us looking like phoenixes rising from the ashes.”
“What about investor relations?” Alex asked again without looking up from the folder in his hands.
“Well stabilized, sir. Confidence is already rebounding, and we have already been offered back the contract by Tirimedeen Industries, as well as three new contracts this week. Even our automobile division’s valuation has doubled.”
Alex looked up at that moment. “Then we must begin a full scale restoration immediately. Triple our funding, reward every loyal employee that remained after the war, and raise entry level salaries by ten percent. Also, I want a full scholarship program launched immediately in detective Mark Marlboro’s name for underprivileged youths, both human and supernatural.”
The boardroom was suddenly buzzing with excitement. For the first time in over a year, the future of the company looked bright.

Less than three months later, a large crowd was gathered once again in front of the company after Alex called for a large press conference. Drones filled the air capturing aerial footage, while giant screens replayed highlights from Alex’s past public speeches, mixed with those from the renewed success.
Ravenswood Industries was thriving again, and their value had skyrocketed beyond belief.
Avery was at her husband's side this time around, with one hand resting gently on her rounded belly. Her face glowed–not just from the pregnancy, but from the relief and joy of new beginnings. Cameras flashed furiously when the press saw her.
Simon leaned toward her and whispered cheekily, “I hope you are ready for a thousand ‘Luna CEO’ memes.”
Avery rolled her eyes. “Don’t make me tell Melora you have another girlfriend.”
Simon lifted his hands in a mock surrender, laughing as she smiled at him. “Fine you win, I will stop teasing you.”
Alex stepped up to the podium, and the onlookers hushed in anticipation.
“Just over a year ago,” he began, “I was a man almost brought to his knees by betrayal, and a terrible war. I watched my company–my family’s legacy suffer as I tried to stop our city from being burned.”
His voice got more emotional.
“But we did not die. We endured, and now we have rebuilt. Today, Ravenswood Industries returns not just as a company, but as a symbol of what can be rebuilt when you believe in truth.”
The crowd applauded.
“Maverick Stormbringer attempted to destroy more than an empire. He tried to dismantle a legacy I had built over the years, but I have overcome. That legacy stands stronger now, more than ever before.”
He paused for a while, raising anticipation for the big announcement he promised.
“I have done my best for my company, but it is time for me to pass the torch and focus on taking care of my pregnant wife.”
He then looked at Avery who still held her stomach tenderly, with silent tears already running down her face. Alex smiled at her, and blew a kiss at her stomach.
Then he turned back to Simon again. “And now, I pass the torch to Simon Ross, my friend, and my brother. He will immediately assume the role of CEO and Chairman of Ravenswood Industries.”
Simon’s eyes widened as he stood there in shock, clearly not expecting the public announcement. Alex had completely taken him and everyone else by surprise.
Alex smiled at his friend. “You have carried this company on your back for as long as I can remember, and you're the only one I know who loves it just as much as I do. You have earned this.”
Simon finally summoned the courage to approach the podium, still visibly stunned. “Well–if this is a prank, it is quite an elaborate one.”
The crowd laughed.
“But if it is not,” he continued, placing a hand over his heart, “then I humbly accept this honor with the solemn promise to make this company one that uplifts every citizen of this city, no matter their species or station.”
A thunderous round of applause followed immediately, and the camera flashes that had been going on silently intensified.
That evening, it was a joyous occasion at the Ravenswood estate. Thousands of glowing lanterns floated above the mansion, while soft music played from a live orchestra hidden among blooming moonvine trees.
Guests mingled in every corner–ambassadors, artists, supernatural leaders, and human officials. Peace had united them. Alex and Avery were moving through them like royalty they were, accepting congratulations and blessings.
At their table, Rufus adjusted his official uniform, proudly spotting the insignia of the City Police Commissioner. Jessica sat beside him, gently holding his hand under the table. Simon, the proud new CEO, was seated with Melora mischievously teasing Rufus about being the drunk who scammed his way to police commissioner.
As Avery and Alex approached the table, Melora stood up to greet her with a hug.
“Congratulations again, Avery.”
“Thank you,” she replied with a warm smile. “We are still adjusting.”
“Have you chosen a name?” Rufus asked.
Alex slipped his hand around Avery’s waist. “We have a few options.”
“Oh?” Jessica leaned in eagerly.
“Alex has a very poetic idea,” Avery said giggling.
Alex met her eyes. “If it is a girl, I want to name her something after the future.”
A silence fell over the group. Then Jessica clinked her glass. “To the future, then.”
“To the future,” they echoed.
