Chapter 182 The Alpha’s Proposal

Chapter 182 The Alpha’s Proposal

On the night of the full moon a few weeks later, the night sky above the Ravenswood estate burned with thousands of stars, as though the heavens themselves had come to bear witness to a new era.
They were gathered in the sacred chamber, where they always held their full moon ritual gatherings. Avery was kneeling before the table of elders, in preparation for the sacred rites that were about to take place. Wolves were howling softly in the distance, their cries not of warning but of approval because tonight was the night everyone had been waiting for. Tonight, Avery would officially take her rightful place by Alex's side.
Alex sat in all his glory before her in his ceremonial Alpha attire, no longer just the Alpha of the pack, but a man reborn through fire, love, and loss. The elders surrounding him no longer had doubts in their minds, neither did they challenge him for bringing Rufus a human, and the other members of his team who were not wolves into the chamber. He was their Alpha, and they were all now members of his pack–werewolves or not.
When they had fully settled, Alex rose from his seat and stepped out to the kneeling Avery. He stretched his hand forward, holding a silver ring in it. It bore the crest of their union–two wolves entwined around a full moon. The crowd that circled them held their breath.
“Avery Wellesley,” he said in a deep and powerful voice befitting his Alpha status, “from the moment you entered my life, everything around me changed. You challenged me, humbled me, and reminded me of whom I could be, and of what love could mean. Will you continue to stand beside me, not as my shield or my duty– but as my partner, my mate, and my Luna?”
Avery's breath froze, and her heart thudded like a war drum. Tears gathered in her eyes as she looked up–into the eyes of the man who had initially terrified and intrigued her, before ultimately stealing her heart. She smiled and stretched her hand forward.
“Yes, my Alpha. I always will.”
A surge of magic flowed through the council chamber. And the pack elders who were standing in a wide circle around them, began to chant in the old tongue. A glowing silver light covered Alex's palm as he reached toward Avery, and slipped the ring on her finger. Then with a careful yet passionate touch, he lifted her gently to her feet, and placed his fangs softly on her neck. With a painless bite, he marked her–His mate. His Luna.
A symbol sparkled briefly there, like a crown made of moonlight and stars. The ancient magic recognized her. Accepted her.
She was now his Luna.
Howls erupted in celebration as the pack members banged their staff against the stone floor. Simon let out a whooping whistle that broke the formality of the ritual, earning both laughter and applause. Melora dabbed at her eyes, while Jessica clung to Rufus, beaming happily.
Their wedding followed a week later, hosted in the city's largest ceremonial hall. The occasion was filled to the hall's entire capacity, and even the crowd that gathered outside was enough to fill it twice over again. The heroes of Tenebrous were getting married, and everyone wanted to be there, humans and supernaturals.
The list of dignitaries was extremely impressive as every supernatural noble in Tenebrous was in attendance. Even the fairy king himself had honored them with his presence.
Avery proudly walked down the aisle, led by her foster father, Nathan, with Jessica following slowly behind her. Her foster mother, Clara and her brother Ryan cheered and blew kisses at her as she passed by smiling radiantly.
She was a beauty to behold in a dress woven from enchanted silk that glowed like moonlight over a lake. Her hair was adorned with orb pins, and they caught the light with every step she took. She wasn’t just beautiful–she was celestial, shining with the poise and beauty of the moon.
Alex stood waiting in front of the altar, Simon at his side as best man, wearing a black velvet suit lined with obsidian thread. The high ceiling echoed the murmurs of awe from the crowd, and a chorus of fairies sang a heart melting hymn in a language long forgotten by mortals.
The mayor, standing proudly beside the city leaders and the new High Council elders of Supernaturals, welcomed the crowd.
“Today, we are not just witnessing a union between two people,” the mayor declared. “We are witnessing the birth of a new legacy. One built on love, courage, and hope.”
Melora, who was standing amongst the new High Council elders in a deep sapphire gown, stepped forward, holding the binding scroll of unity. It was an ancient magical artifact, reserved only for royal supernatural weddings.
“As Head of the Supernatural Council, I bear witness to this vow,” she said solemnly. “And by the authority granted to me by the Concord of Realms, I bless this union in the eyes of all magical beings.”
Alex took Avery’s hand. “With you, I am whole. Without you, I am lost. I give you all of me–my name, my strength, and my heart.”
Avery’s voice trembled, not from fear but emotion. “I accept you, my Alpha. With every scar, every truth, and every promise. I will fight beside you, laugh with you, and lead with you.”
Their lips met in a kiss that set the room alight with cheers. A burst of silver light swept across the hall, the binding magic sealing their vows in a surge of supernatural power that even the oldest creatures hadn’t felt in centuries.
The celebration that followed the vows was like a huge festival. Even the crowd outside the hall were partying and cheering wildly as a large screen had been provided for them to watch the event. The mayor summoned Rufus to his side, and he stood there in confusion as the mayor tapped his glass with a spoon, and called for silence.
“Citizens of Tenebrous. Bravery takes many forms,” the mayor said with a smile, gesturing to Rufus. “And sometimes, the most fearless ones are the ones who walk among us without magic, without fangs or claws. Rufus Donovan, you have shown us that humanity can proudly stand shoulder to shoulder with gods and monsters without fear.”
The room erupted in applause.
“For your unwavering loyalty and heroism, I hereby name you as the new Chief of the Police Department of Tenebrous. This position was meant for the great detective Mark Marlboro, and I am sure he would be proud to see it passed to you.”
Rufus stood there, completely stunned as Jessica burst into applause beside Avery, and Alex gave a nod of approval. He blinked away tears, placing his hand over his heart.
“I will honor his memory,” he said hoarsely. “And I will protect this city just as loyally as he did.”
Simon, who had also been made the head of defense and strategy of the supernatural council came over to hug him and whisper in his ear. “Guess I am not the only one who got a promotion.”
The party roared into the night. Dancing, laughter, and tears. Witches spun in the arms of vampires, and shifters shared wine with humans.
Toward the end of the evening, Alex stood again before the crowd to give his closing speech. His arm was wrapped lovingly around Avery’s waist, and his presence alone silenced the room.
“Tonight,” he said in a happy voice after drinking enough wine. “I want to thank you all for joining us on this special occasion. We mark more than a wedding. We mark a new age– An age of unity, and of peace between our different worlds.”
He looked at Avery with pride and love in his eyes. “Avery is not just my bride and mate. Not just Luna of my pack. From this night forward, let the blessed daughter of the moon be known as the Luna of all supernaturals in Tenebrous.”
The crowd gasped, then roared with approval. Jessica sobbed openly into her wineglass.
The mayor who had been cheering with the crowd came forward again, spotting a mysterious smile on his proud face. An attendant was behind him, carrying a sealed golden box.
When the stage had been cleared for him, the attendant opened the box. The mayor took out two golden medallions, and placed them on Alex and Avery’s necks.
“And by the power vested in me by the people of this city,” he said, “I hereby declare Alex Ravenswood and Avery Ravenswood as the Alpha and Luna of Tenebrous. Our protectors. Our hope.”
Chants erupted all over again. Alpha! Luna! Alpha! Luna!
The walls of the hall nearly shook with the force of celebration. It was a night they would all remember–not just for love, not just for peace–but for the promise of something new.
And as Alex leaned into each other Avery in another kiss, the stars above the city seemed to shine even brighter around the glowing moon, as though even the goddess and the universe had given them their blessing.
