Thirty nine

Thirty nine
Kyra’s eyes were red and swollen that  morning as she tried to concentrate on the fabric she was working on but she kept pricking herself with the needle. She’s had a bad night where she spent hours just tossing and turning on the bed, her mind running a mile per minute.

Before, all she thought about was Anton’s advances and how well to avoid them and what to welcome from him. It was totally different now. She now had more than that to think about.

Ever since she found out about Tanya’s existence and had one meal with her, the lady refused to let her be. Starting from when she helped her to her room that day two days ago, she was always at Kyra’s door every morning demanding that they go out together.

Kyra kept giving her excuses that she was taking it easy because she was at the early stage of her pregnancy. She did not want to run around and hurt her baby.

The response she got from Tanya was that the doctor already checked her and she was fine. Still, Kyra refused to leave her room to go anywhere with Tanya. She did not know for how long she could keep coming up with excuses before she had to endure Tanya’s company.

The woman was fun and bubbly but Kyra did not like the vibes she was giving off. This one time, she decided to go with her intuition and stay away from the woman but it was so damn hard when the other woman had refused to let her be. She already saw herself as Kyra’s guard and Kyra found it weird.

What woman of such a high position would want to become the guard of an alpha’s daughter who was sold by her father into slavery? Nobody.

There was this very weird glance Tanya gave to her when they got to the front of her room that day she escorted her after their lunch together and up until now, she was yet to understand the message behind that look. Kyra soon forgot about it though.

Since that day the three of them ate together, she’s not seen Anton nor have they eaten together again. Kyra should be happy that there was no one to drag her out anymore but why did she find herself thinking about him? Why was she wishing that he would suddenly appear at her door to tease and frustrate her?

Tanya already informed her that Anton was very busy and that was also one of the reasons she kept coming over to look for Kyra; she needed someone to keep her company and Kyra was the next best available option since Anton was very busy.

Kyra returned to the present and her head snapped up from what she was sewing when she heard a knock on the door and a now familiar voice calling out her name.

“Kyra, are you in there?”

Kyra shut her eyes tight and winced. She opened it back and called out, “Yes, come on in.”

There was a little noise at the door as if Tanya was talking to someone before she finally opened the door and strolled in with a wide smile on her beautifully made up face.

“How are you feeling today, Kyra?” Tanya asked as she moved to drop onto Kyra’s bed. She did not sit but she laid down on the bed and spread her arms and legs wide on it.

Kyra cocked her head to the side as she watched Tanya’s action. This was not the first time Tanya was doing this. She’s been doing it since the first time she stepped foot into the room.

“I’m feeling good. What about you?” Kyra asked, her eyes still on every movement that Tanya was making.

“I’m okay.” Tanya turned her head to the side and inhaled the covers on the bed deeply before she sat up and stared at Kyra with a glint in her eyes. “You can’t give me any excuses today. I can see that you are well rested and fine, we are going into town. Anton told me that you’ve not left the four walls of this palace since you got here. Well, except for when you followed him to that party.”

Kyra opened her mouth to say that she still needed to rest some more but nothing came out. The thought of leaving the four walls of the palace and going into town was far too tempting, she did not want to miss it.

After weeks of staying in Anton’s palace, she wanted to see people who were not his maids or guards or other palace staff.

“Okay.” Kyra agreed.

Tanya was taken aback for a second, “Okay?”

Kyra smiled as she shoved the fabrics from her lap onto the table before her and stood up. She felt giddy with happiness, “Okay. Let’s go into town. I want to see the pack.”

Tanya waved her hands in the air as she bounced on the bed, “Nice. You need to take your bath and change into something simple looking but nice. I’ll take you to all the fun places. You’ll like it.”

“I hope so.” Kyra smiled before she moved in the direction of the bathroom.

Kyra did not spend a lot of time in the bathroom. She took her bath quickly before she walked out wearing a red robe and with a towel wrapped around her head.

She froze and frowned in confusion when she walked into her room and met Tanya standing in front of her opened closet. What was she doing standing there and fingering the edges of her gowns? Kyra could not see the look on Tanya’s face because the woman was standing with her back to her.

“Tanya? Are you okay?” Kyra asked as she cocked her head to the side, trying to catch a glimpse of the woman's face.

Kyra’s heart flew out of her chest when Tanya slowly turned her head to look at her and she saw the expression on the woman’s face.
