Kyra knew that she shouldn’t be surprised. After all, people from different packs were there when Alpha Anton nearly choked Roselyn to death because she slapped her. So, the news was bound to get out.
Because she was always indoors and had no friends in the pack, Kyra had not heard about the gossip. Kyra has nearly even forgotten about that night. Nearly, because her mind was now consumed with alpha Anton’s plenty of proposals and her body’s reaction to him which she was unable to understand.
Tanya leaned against the table and focused all her attention on Kyra, “So, it’s really true, huh?”
Kyra’s head tilted a little to the side in confusion, “What’s really true?”
“The rumors of him nearly killing Roselyn in front of everyone because of you. Your reaction already gave it away.” Then Tanya turned to look at Anton, “Why did you do it anyway? It would have been better if Kyra stood up and fought for herself. Now, she will be the target of many women because they think she’s weak. You can’t be everywhere with her. It might also bring bad blood between you and Roselyn’s father.”
This was exactly why Alpha Anton got angry at her that day; because she did not hit back when he asked her to.
Was everyone in this pick like that? They were bold, strong and ferocious that they will always fight back?
Her father did not bring her up that way. In fact, he left her to nannies immediately after she was born and she never got the chance to participate in plenty of pack activities. She only knew basic training.
Seems like if she wanted to survive here, she needed to work on herself and become bold and strong. Kyra wondered what Tanya would have done if she was the one that was faced with Roselyn that night.
With the way she spoke just now, Kyra was sure that the two women would have fought hard against each other but she was unsure of who would win. She could feel Tanya’s wolf but the aura around the women was calm, her real strength could not be gauged.
“They won’t come for her because they will be scared that she might report it to me and there will be a problem.” Alpha Anton said before shoving a forkful of food in his mouth. “And I don’t care about Roselyn’s father.”
“I know.” Tanya said, “But the thing is that once they realize that she’s weak and a good person, they’ll take a gamble because they believe that she might not report it to you.”
Kyra frowned at the way tanyay labeled her as weak but the women could not be blamed. That was the way she portrayed herself and she was actually weak.
She’s always ran away from fights and avoided troubles. The few troubles she got into was to get her father’s attention which she never did in the end. Kyra always wanted peace and the only time she really got in too deep was with her relationship with Tristan.
“She’s pregnant. After she gives birth. I’ll get a trainer for her. I can’t have her be bullied by high society women.” Adrien informed Tanya. “I’ll have a personal guard following her around until then.”
Kyra was shocked to hear that he wanted to assign a guard to her. She was always in her room or with him or taking a stroll in the palace hallways. She did not need a guard. He’s already warned the palace maids off and they were all avoiding her.
“I don’t think I’ll be needing a guard. I am not going anywhere and I’m always in my room or with you.” Kyra protested.
“You are always with him?” Tanaya sounded amused and her eyes were dancing with a teasing light as she winked at Kyra. Kyra’s face turned red as she looked down at the plate of food before her.
“Stop teasing her, Tanya.” Anton cautioned but the sides of his lips were curled up in a warm smile.
“I’m not teasing her. Just asking a harmless question.” Tanya told him with a small laugh.
“You are teasing her and she’s uncomfortable.” Anton insisted as he could see Kyra’s squirming on her seat with red cheeks. He would prefer he was the one who made her uncomfortable and not someone else.
Tanaya looked at Kyra’s and discovered that Anton was correct and that she was truly making Kyra uncomfortable. A dark light flashed in her eye but she blinked it away and offered an apologetic smile to Kyra.
“I’m sorry if I’m making you feel uncomfortable. Sometimes I just love teasing people and I especially like the way you blush. You are so beautiful.”
“Thank you.” Kyra peered at Tanya between her lashes.
It was rare for a woman to appreciate another one’s beauty and Tanaya was a very beautiful woman herself. Kyra felt giddy that she could get complimented by someone as beautiful as Tanya.
“Speaking about you always being in your room or with me, it doesn’t matter. Very soon, the palace will be crowded with people as the time of the year for celebration in this pack is fast approaching. I won’t leave you defenseless and unguarded.” Anton said, explaining the main reason he wanted to assign a guard to Kyra.
“As for assigning a guard to her.” Tanaya stated as soon as Anton was done talking, “I don’t think that will be necessary.”
“Why do you say so?” Anton asked with raised brows
“I’m planning on hanging around for a while and since I don’t have many friends…. Well, except for you of course” she said, referring to Anton, “But you are an alpha and you are always busy with one thing or the other. I like Kyra. We could be good friends and I’ll do my very best to protect her in the little time that I’ll be here. You can assign a guard to her once I’m gone.”
Kyra’s head that was bowed snapped up with her lips parted in surprise. Did she just hear well? Tanya wanted them to be friends and she was offering to not just be a friend but also a guard.
“Eh? You don’t have to guard me, Miss Tanaya.”
“And you don’t have to be so formal with me, Kyra. We are friends now or are we not?”
Kyra wanted to say that they were friends but the words felt too heavy and refused to leave her mouth. Tanaya was looking at her and waiting for her response. She could also feel Anton’s eyes on her.
She heaved a deep breath and her grip on her fork tightened. A high class and beautiful woman like Tanaya was offering to be her friend and protector, she should accept. Why was she hesitant? It was as if something strong was weighing down on her tongue and stopping her from saying yes.
